I know many people have commented (unfavorably!!) on our ML Ji-soo’s hairstyle but having now gone down a Wiki hair-history rabbit hole (look up Pompadour hairstyle, for some fun times!) I’d like to offer an alternate view.
It seems our fine fellow’s hair is a form of Quiff, with fade, or the more hilariously named ‘Psychobilly wedge’. The style itself I like, I’m just not a fan of the amount of product in there (which gives it that ‘greasy’ look).
However, I do enjoy having a change from every other ML’s hairstyle, where we typically either get the ‘combed forward’ look (love a man who combs over his food!)
or what I like to call ‘half open curtains’ where there is a part, but the two sides of the hair on the forehead sit curled apart.
BUT what I did have to laugh at this week was the make-up artist’s over-enthusiastic lipstick application for Ji-Soo, especially when compared to the bare faced Kang-hyun…
I think his hair’s got swag. Completely fits with the over-the-top style of his character, grease and all. Same with his lipstick. In 19th Life it made no sense for his character. But if a guy’s gonna wear lipstick, it’d be Ji-soo.
Tho your version of that scene made me laugh. If I was the FL, I’d want a bit of Plum Assignment myself. 😂
I’d love a scene of Ji-soo ‘setting’ his lipstick with a tissue (I hope you know what I mean, I realise I don’t know how to officially describe that move!) and then blowing himself a kiss in the mirror before heading out to kick some bad guy ass! 💋
or maybe redoing his lipstick in the passenger seat visor-mirror whilst our FL driver looks on in a long-suffering way🤣
Hmm, I’m not sure either. Is it setting, sealing, blotting? In any case, it would be a great scene. I vote for car application with FL around for maximum laughs.
Hahaha! I almost lost my morning coffee over that makeup meme! For a country that elevates skincare to high art, it’s always funny to me when the MUAs’ work isn’t.
As for his hair, I actually don’t mind it. I’m all about “change of pace” with my drama watching these days and that style fits the bill perfectly. 😉
“Half-Open Curtains” is a perfect descriptor!! I really disliked this being Junho’s main hairstyle in KTL. He’s just styled better with it all up or all down. And he knows it too, I think!!
Do you think K-drama barbers just have three pictures up – combed forward, half-open curtains and swept back? 🤣
My least favourite, which I thankfully haven’t seen often, is a kind of ‘shaggy dog’ look with slightly wavy combed forward hair. To me they look like they’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards, as they say in the UK. The 2ML in Ghost Doctor had this look and it was so off-putting! 😁
Thanks @eloiseflood – I’m a dork who enjoys puns and a good play on words, so I tickled myself with the ‘plum assignment’ – it’s the little things in life amiright? 😁

Controversial take incoming! (Flex X)

Here’s my version of their scene:

Oooh, yes, blotting is jogging some brain cells of memory loose. I think that’s right 👏
I would also settle for my proposed car scene as a behind the scenes video extra😂

Are you talking of the haircut Joo-won has on Midnight Studio? Isn’t it a bonus when it’s also orange?

I haven’t seen Midnight Studio, but the mere sound of that makes me want to stick forks in my eyes…😒

The half-open curtains is Junho’s main hairstyle in real life too, I think.

I have no problem with Isoo’s hairstyle in Flex x cop either.
The worst hairstyles in shows I’ve watched, imho

The bottom one is so bad- it looks like the equivalent of a comb-over combined with a ‘pudding bowl’ – an ungodly mash-up!
