Feel like a grumpy hag saying this, but lord, some of these young male actors are being promoted to main lead way too quickly. You used to have to spend years slumping it as second lead or roughing it in negative budget web dramas before you were trusted to deliver as a lead. Too many casting announcements lately consist of a phenomenal veteran actress in their prime paired with an incredibly green “it boy”. I’m supportive of casting directors taking a chance on rookie actors, but god, I’d like them to have more in their credits than just Singles Inferno.
They’re not doing them any favours either, they’re not ready for it and they never get the experience they need to become good actors. But then they’re not investing in them, they’re just sucking them dry early and throwing them away for the next one.
Gosh that is ridiculous. I guess as so much is about marketing and sponsorship they have to go where the money is and idols and good looking actors win every time. The majority female audience must have an influence, although demographics wise most are ajummas so the older/experienced actors are a bigger pull than the powers that be think.
The sheer quantity of dramas being made require a larger number of actors and veteran actors can do only a handful in one year.
Rather than having a total newbie actor headline a drama it seems a safer bet commercially to have an idol with a ready-made fan base.
As @leetennant astutely points out it is not doing them any favors.
Hit dramas have proven that veteran actors still reign supreme in dramaland.
I assume that casting young, popular, and inexperienced actors is more cost-effective as they attract sponsors and commercials that help finance the drama.
It’s like they came up with their new variety survival shows for newbies. Whoever survives these flops and manage to build a career will be the winner!

So true, they leave them vulnerable to criticism and then they can use that as the excuse to move on to the next one.

The number of “social media” followers is deciding the next new ML now apparently. 🤦♀️🙈

That’s exactly what is happening. Even newbies have more followers and appear on more Insta/Viki videos than veteran actors.

Join the grumpy club! I don’t bother watching or just cringed through it for the veterans.

But it always has been the case. It’s not a new thing like Hyun Bin, Joo Ji-Hoon, etc. And it’s the same for young actresses with older actors.
I wish just they choose good actor and make chemistry test before…
