I circled back here and I can see I was asking the same with the same feelings half a year ago.

He’s turned 28 today. I didn’t see any news of enlistment yet. 😅 But surely he would enlist sometime in the next year.

People are already talking about how he will have to cut his hair. But why? Because individuality is not welcome in the army. A large part of the training consists in making people stop asking questions and just do what they’re told.
I have heard that some of the beautiful young men who have singing and acting careers are considered less masculine and treated as less than by other recruits. And for some, that has been very tough, though I hope and believe that Rowoon can handle a great deal.
But when I see this flowering young man I feel sad that he must be taken out of context for so long and be trained to kill. Two years changes a person, and I highly doubt it’ll be for the better. So it makes me sad to think of that.

@Ceciliedk Thank you for the context. The definition of “masculinity” apparently doesn’t include a lot of “feminine” jobs. Being an idol and and actor is tough but military is indeed another kettle of fish kind of tough. Let us hope all our idols and actors are able to come out with their humanity intact.

When he is by himself or with people who are not significantly short he holds himself rather well. When standing / acting with significantly shorter persons he comes across as gangly because of the comparison, not that his body language is awkward by himself. 🙄

PDs need to pay special attention to framing so that his natural poise and grace is reflected even while interacting with other people. It is to Rowoon’s credit that he never tries to overpower anyone by his sheer height. I love him for that.

I agree that he doesn’t overpower with his body. For that, he did great in The King’s Affection because PEB is really small and she was playing a powerful role.

I have – a family friend is married to a giant that size. And it was a bit odd the first time meeting him when I was a teen, but I got used to it. So much in fact that I don’t notice the height difference anymore when we meet up.

In college, one of my friends was 193cm (she/her) and she seemed really huge the first few years because she felt so self-conscious about her height. And then one day, something clicked in her and she embraced it. She went from looking awkward to being a completely confident and super attractive presence. (In K-dramas it seems the ideal is the woman should be as small as possible, and the man as tall as possible. It’s not necessarily so out in the real world. But a lot of men (and some women) react to tall girl be desexualising her and also pretending she is some kind of freak and/or monster.
