I loved all my trips to Europe because the cities are eminently walkable, safe, and easy to traverse for an English speaker. Plus there’s so much history and art to savour in Europe. From the smaller towns to bigger cities like Brussels, Prague, Paris, I loved them all 😊.
Another favourite was Sydney. I think the Bondi-Coogee walk has some of the most beautiful views I’ve seen in my life!
ohh, we didn’t get to see much because we stayed on the south side, Seogwipo – where The Seaes Resort is located (where Secret Garden was filmed and the bench where they kissed)… the Olle Trail passes by. so we did walk along that seaside trail – but i think next time we’d go on tours or hire a taxi, because things are spread out. unless you are there for multiple days (we were only there for 2 nights), try to take a tour or tours…
mainly, you want to eat the famous Black Pig – samgyeopsal — delish delish!!! plus, seaweed soup with abalone and sea urchin (don’t squirm, it’s fabulous!!)…
next time, i will book tours to the other spots on the island. it looks small, but it is spread out so you need a car or ride to get to other areas. if you are a hiker, you must try (but it’s an all day adventure) to climb Halasan, the mountain. we are too old and tired to do that, but young people should definitely do the hike and enjoy the vistas from the top!
carry a zip bag for any garbage , there´s no trash bins
use maximum sunscreen even in winter weather
don´t use public bathrooms, might have secret cameras
in Seoul, walk around Myeongdong after 21pm more free samples being offered. do step into the cosmetics stores, you might get free face care, nail care and else, plus samples and stuff. Also, you must go to Namsan tower not during day but in the dark. It is lit and much prettier than during day. carry a keyring you can press to make loud noise if you are afraid of crooks.
go for a run next to Cheonggyecheon stream early morning. You know, sightseeing, and… sometimes idols run there, too…
dont walk inbetween skyskrapers, mostly smoking areas, very smelly
you can ask for a bus routes map at any hotel
if you pass a bookstore, buy kids books. even if you dont speak korean. one day you might, and they are great to help you get started, plus some come with little stickers, toys, keychains etc.
always follow the ajumma who has a basket and is counting money in a hurry. she is heading to a big discount.
my husband and daughter went to an Mnet Countdown taping in Seoul. he checked online before we went and found out what day and time and how to line up (we went the last week in october 2015, but don’t know what the drill is now) very very early in the morning (they lined up at 5 or 6 am) to get tickets, then had to go back later in the afternoon to line up to get into the studio… they saw Ailee, Seventeen (total noobs at the time), F(x), MonstaX, N Flying (?), Kyuhyun (SuJu), Dong Wan (Shinhwa), BTOB, Melody Day (?), Lovelyz…
so funny, because they looked “different” (we’re japanese, but obviously american) the guy letting people in lead them to the front row… so on the videos, at times i could see my husband’s balding head next to my daughter…
: D
my daughter said she was screaming Ailee’s name and she looked at her and winked. talk about THRILLS…
try to go to one of these tapings! good luck!!! oh, i mean… HWAITING!!!
oh, and it was FREE……. go go go!!! YOLO!!

r/Korea on Reddit should have some good tips. This post is a bit old but I’m sure there are more recent ones – https://www.reddit.com/r/korea/comments/eg05wq/a_few_tips_for_traveling_to_korea/
As someone who travels solo frequently, I can tell you it can be an amazing experience. All the best!

If you’re under 27 years old, it might be cool to check the Korail pass and if you plan to go to Busan and other cities as well.
Also, enjoy!

Yes, they have a discounted price for ages under 27. Though you can only use this to go to Busan and not Jeju.
