I wouldn’t say it’s a flawless masterpiece, but it definitely deserves a higher rating than 7.6/10. If not for anything else, you should give it a try just to see Park Eun-bin’s phenomenal performance.
I wouldn’t call it disappointing. From the 7 episodes I watched I think it’s just our typical romance sageuk. It just didn’t clic with me.
For me it was boring since minute 1, it had too much politics and the FL made me uncomfortable (I don’t know if it was the acting, the character, or both. I think both).
But I think you should try it.
I remember not watching Sweden Laundry (for years) because it was rated 8.0 or something like that (8.0 on Viki is BAD). All the low ratings were for one dumb reason. That show is THE BEST.
Ratings don’t meant anything on dramabeans. People rate the drama before it’s airing, before the end, etc. Take 25,21, the rate was very high before the last 2 episodes, then everybody hated it.
For The King’s Affection, it was my favourite sageuk in 2021. It was the only one that focused on the FL during the whole drama and didn’t switch for the ML like the others.
I enjoyed it! Like a lot of Sageuks it dragged a bit near the end, but Park Eun-bin was worth it. She remained the star all the way through and it was her character who made the decisions, the plans and the romantic moves which is refreshing!

Why’s the King’s affection only 7.6/10 on dramabeans? Is it really not that good?

I liked it! But it was overshadowed by Junho and Red Sleeve.

I loved red sleeve! which brought me into a sageuk crave where now I’m out of recommended sageuks to watch. Wondering if I should give this one a try…

You should! Park Eun bin is soooooo good. And Rowoon is also cute, and the young actress that plays two roles at the beginning is amazing!

But if you want a sageuk that is excellent and entertaining, BOSSAM is better! The music is better, Kwan Yuri and Jung Il-woo have chemistry to spare!

Thank you for this! I usually need to make sure other people liked a show before I invest in it. Just in case..

The trailer made it look pretty good but then the 7.6/10 rating made me a bit hesitant but your review makes it even more appealing 🙂 thank you!
