hello friends! oraenmanida!

Rewatching has been on my mind lately and I was wondering about everyone else’s habits. I have made a numbered list of investigative questions for K-drama Science:

1) Do you rewatch dramas? Why/why not?
2) Are there any shows you find yourself *constantly* rewatching?
3) Which shows?
4) This isn’t a question. I am just considering the logistics of stockpiling comfort-watches. That’s a thing right?
5) Anyone else done nanowrimo? How has it gone? Do you have a novel? (is it a secret identity/epistolary romance? Can someone please write one or rec me one I haven’t already read/watched? At a loose end since Dash and Lily reminded me how much I love that genre) ps I don’t think this is a question anymore oops

Here is some coffee humour wrapped in Foil, Arms and Hog (in case you haven’t discovered them yet):

    1. Yes, because just like rereading a favorite book it’s like visiting a good friend.
    2. I used to rewatch Goblin, but nowadays it’s Because This Life is Our First. Se-hee is the best.
    3. Oops, I already answered this one. See #2.
    4. Yes, yes it is. Also, please publish this stockpile because comfort watches are much needed.
    5. Umm, no. Writing? Uhhh, sure I meant to do that. I do love a good epistolary novel. Have you read The Flatshare? Roommates who’ve never seen each other and communicate via sticky notes (oh hey, BTIOFL might have that too…). Umm, not fiction, and I’m sure you’ve probably read it, but 84 Charing Cross Road is a delight, both the book and the film.

Coffee humor always welcome, and no I had not discovered Foil, Arms and Hog yet. Thanks!

Love this! Sorry for my laaaaate reply. RL has been keeping me away 😭

I looked up The Flatshare and have it ready to read on my ereader now, very looking forward to it! And also put 84 Charing Cross Road on the list! I’m not as widely read as I think XD I have a tendency to stay in YA, but even then, within very specific niches. It’s a wonder I ever fell into kdrama, frankly! Thank you so much for the recommendations (and feel free to push more anytime – are you on goodreads? Did I already ask you that? My brain is a sieve right now.)

It is one of my greatest disappointments that 84 Charing Cross Rd is now home to a McDonalds instead of a lovely dusty old book shop.

I am, in theory, on goodreads, but haven’t logged on in years. Do I know my username and password?

I think all our brains are sieves right now. It’s fine.

    Sayaaaaa!!!! I miss youuuu!!!!

    1. Yes, because sometimes you just really miss a drama in your life. Especially if you’re feeling down and need something to comfort you. Something familiar. There are a select few dramas I do this for, though, and some of them involve, um, a certain actor…
    2. YES.
    3. I think I’ve rewatched Because This Life is Our First… 6 times? Plus all the random scenes I’ve watched a ton. While it was airing and for months after I think I watched some scenes over 20 times. 🤭 Other ones I’ve rewatched in the past few years in part or full are Dal-ja’s Spring (again….. Certain actor….), My Ajusshi, and I’m Not a Robot. I’m planning an Into the Ring rewatch next month!

Clearly there are certain things I go to for comfort, LOL.

I admit to watching the first episodes of SUFBB several times. Guyliner punk rockish LMK is perfect.

Now that you mention it, I think I’ve seen the first two episodes of SUFBB 5 times.

        Yes.

He should have had a whole drama of his own 😭

Mindyyy I miss you tooo 😭😭😭 RL dragged me away from the internet!

Ohhh which actor could you possibly be talking about? Having a very hard time figuring this out! Hehehehe.

    1) I used to, but not in these last few years. Apparently I was too easily distracted watching something I’ve watched before, my fingers just itched to constantly press the fast-forward button. I do re-read recaps and my comments on shows I loved though, just to get nostalgic on a good story telling when I was in a drama slump.

2&3) Once upon a time, it used to be fun romcom like Reply 1997, Queen In-hyun’s Man, or Jealousy Incarnate.

    4) Even though I’m not doing that anymore, it makes perfect sense to stockpiled comfort-watches. Sometimes we just need a familiarity of a story that we know would end well. I think this is exactly why I gravitated towards C-drama these days. They have several popular stories that got adapted into several different format (from novel to manga, anime, drama, and audio drama). And while it’s not exactly a rewatching experience, I think it provided the same level of comfort.

1: I rewatch a few favorite shows, usually when I’m showing them to a friend who hasn’t seen them. But I OFTEN re-watch favorite parts of certain episodes, whether or not the rest of the show is worth a rewatch. I have a folder in my PC of just favorite episodes, mostly with the time where the good stuff starts as the tail-end of the file name.

2: No. Just bits of them.

3: Past total rewatches (in no special order)
    You From Another Star
    Queen In-hyun’s Man
    Masters Sun
    School 2015
    Bring It On Ghost
    Girl K
Splash Splash Love (an easy rewatch because it’s so short)
    Signal
    I’m Not a Robot
    Queen’s Classroom
    Voice (season 1 only!!!!!!!!!!!)
    Mystery Queen (season 1)
    Faith

Partial episodes (most favorite and/or most-recent rewatches first):
Mother ep 14 – the kid’s testimony at the trial starting 44 min
Pegasus Market ep 1 – the singing/dancing about a hour in
Girl’s Generation ep 1 – the ABBA bit at the start
Strong Woman Do Bong-soon – end of ep 8 & start of 9
Big ep 3 – 24 min 25 sec – phone getting fixed thru Suzy’s trip from LA
    My Fellow Citizens ep 2 – 7 min (U-turn) & ep 3 25 min (fight where FL kicks a**)
Amnesia of the Alhambra ep 1 – Hyun Bin marching back & forth trying to start the game
Girl K ep 2 – training montage near the start
Miss Korea ep 20 – 48 min 35 sec – at the gas station
Surplus Princess ep 1, 2 & especially 10 – arrivals & anything with Terminator music.
While You Were Sleeping ep 20 2 min – Suzy’s scarf handover
Faith – the ML’s visit to “heaven” in ep 1 and the FL’s visit in the finale
Mask ep 1 – deer in headlights & cliffhanger at the start

    4: Yes

    5: No

    1. Yes, I rewatched dramas all the times. There are certain shows that make me want to watch over and over again. A lot of those shows are what people would call sad or depressing (which they are), but I find them strangely comforting. Sometimes I just put them on in the background while I do something else.
    2. Yes. There are shows I routinely rewatch every year.
    3. A few ones on the top of my head:
    – Life is Beautiful is currently holding the record for most rewatched. I’m pretty sure I have rewatched all 63 episodes at least 6 times ever since I discovered it 7 years ago.
    – Another OHY, Forest of Secret 1 and My Mister each has 4 rewatches under its name.
    – Seven Day Queen and Marriage not Dating each has 3 rewatches. Oh, how I wish Yeon Woo Jin would appear in a good drama which is on par with his talent like these two?!? All of his recent dramas sucked.
    5. I’ve never done nanowrimo, but shout out to Dash and Lily! It was a cute show.

Wow, that’s a truly impressive schedule, and I love your choices! Do you have any new dramas that have found their way into your rewatch rotation? Plus, I always find depressing things are easier on the emotions in a rewatch.

    1. Yes, if the drama was either excellent (My Ahjussi), an enthralling escape for me (Hotel del Luna) or just plain silly fun (Mary Stayed Out All Night, yes, I know I’m strange).
    2. Yes. Mary Stayed Out All Night and parts of Healer and Chicago Typewriter.
    3. Mary Stayed Out All Night, Healer and Chicago Typewriter (I don’t often rewatch the entire series because I fast forward the characters that annoy me).
    5. Not Start Up.

I enjoy Foil, Arms and Hogg😄

    1. I do. Probably for the same reason I re-read books I enjoy – because I enjoyed them 😂 plus you often see different things on rewatches. Also if I’m showing them to someone else.

    2. Yes

    3. The Greatest Love (I have lost count of how many times I’ve seen this)
    Oh My Venus (also this)
My Girlfriend is a Gumiho (I have watched this twice this year alone)
….many others. Basically if I liked it the first time I’m going to rewatch at very least bits of it.
    4. Totally a thing! But then I find I don’t actually want to watch any of them because I’m too mopey to make up my mind.
    5. I have done it in this past but not this year because I have three children under the age of six and a job and kdramas to watch 😅 I officially finished once. There was much (much) padding of a very silly fairy tale. I was pleased with myself though. I cannot think of any romances to recommend.

      5. Awww!! But still, dramas wait and children grow! The good thing about a show you’ve watched already is that that story has made its way inside you, it’s not like one of those you keep meaning to get to, so you have that constant niggling feeling of missing out on something. I hope you get the time to rewatch to your heart’s content again, and thank you for sharing!

PS Yes a FA&H fan! If you haven’t already, you should also check out Michael Spicer (MrMichaelSpicer) who is GREAT.

    1. Yes. For so many reasons, rewatching a drama is the best part of watching dramas. Revisiting an old favorite is like getting a nice warm hug from a good friend. It’s so comforting. There’s also the fun of poking holes in a not-so-great drama as well.

2 & 3. Yes, there are several Healer, Coffee Prince, Girl Who Sees Smells, Goong, there’s a several more but theses are a few that pop-up to mind.

    4. Comfort watches are what I’m here for. I watch new dramas just to supplement my running list of comfort watches.

    1
    1

    1. Yes. Constantly. A show you love will remain good no matter how many times you see it, and you might see it differently every time.
    2. Oh God, yes. Gokusen. Hana Kimi. Buzzer Beat. Thirty but Seventeen. Shining Inheritance. Age of Youth 2. I Hear Your Voice.

    2
    1

      Yes!!

IHYV is also one of mine (I mean, I’ve rewatched it before – these days, there isn’t even much time for normal watching 😭)

    1) Do you rewatch dramas? Why/why not?
I used to. I rewatched HEALER like 3 times in a row after it aired to fight withdrawal (that didn’t work). Now I don’t have enough time, or am so disappointed/feeling meh by the time they end that I don’t care to watch them again.
    2) Are there any shows you find yourself *constantly* rewatching?
Nope, mainly scenes here and there. Like 15 minutes of Episode 21 of JUMONG. I will constantly listen to OSTs though!
    3) Which shows?
I never pass on a chance to recommend MISAENG to a family member and end up rewatching with them.
    4) This isn’t a question. I am just considering the logistics of stockpiling comfort-watches. That’s a thing right?
I haven’t tried it, but a ready-made list of comfort watches sounds wonderful!

      Thank you for sharing!!

I did exactly the same with Healer. I think it’s my most rewatched show 3x while airing (raw, viki subs, DF subs…considered watching it again with NF subs but that is very unappealing! Then again, I rely on them way less now than I did then, so it might not be the worst!)
