He said “Hi” and my heart turned into a puddle of goo. There has never been a more romantic “Hi” in the history of dramaland greetings.
In defence of my crazy, I quote Girlfriday on the use of banmal:
“Now, in a romantic relationship, these differences take on more significant meanings. Whether or not a couple uses banmal with each other speaks volumes about where they are emotionally, and how comfortable they feel around each other.”
Granted WinterGarden is not a couple(yet) but they are in a relationship of sorts.
Yeah, Netflix subs are being screwy in this show. Even when Ikjun was teasing him, they translated it as “you said her name” or something like that but he was talking about using banmal not her name.
I think it’s because the international audience isn’t aware of the context behind it (the importance/use of banmal/jondae). Someone who hasn’t watched many kdramas will probly think “whats so significant if he said hi?” So, keeping in mind their audience, they did this ig..
Too bad it got lost in translation. There were a few more times the translation was a bit different. It actually made me wonder if the nuance would be different if it was translated literally from Korean (not this ‘hi’ and the use of banmal) but in other scenes.
This killed me! In his mind, he was already entertaining the thought of pursuing Gyeoul so this came out without thinking. He had the most casual face too when he said it lol. I panicked so hard over that one hi. Hahahahha
That slip of tongue is everything. If it was capable of rendering Ik-jun speechless, then I believe it’s a HUGE deal. Jeong-won, you can’t run away from your own feelings.

He only said ‘Hi’. But the subs is ‘Hi Gyeoul’. I listened to it again, and he only said ‘Hi’ 🤔.

“Uh, annyeong….”
Just this and that sheepish smile and our hearts melt like lemon drops over the rainbow.
Ahhh. Once a shipper, always a shipper.
I can’t escape from my destiny.
