Premiere Watch: The Queen Who Crowns

Time slot: Monday-Tuesday
Broadcaster: tvN/TVING
Genre: Sageuk
Episode count: 12
Global streamer: Viki

Reasons to watch: Sageuk alert! We have another epic coming our way with a narrative led by our heroine. She’s the eponymous Won-kyung (Cha Joo-young) who “crowns” her husband Lee Bang-won (Lee Hyun-wook). But it’s not all Joseon fun and games and bowing ministers, because the secondary cast of Lee Shi-ah and Lee Yi-dam play concubines of the king. With a lot of groundwork for a riveting story — plus gorgeous production quality — tune in on Monday to see how it shapes up.

TL;DR: We’re getting the story of King Taejong from the queen’s side

I was reading about Queen Won-kyung and feel a drama about her is definitely worth checking out.

Best love-hate relationship in history (IMO). The most revered and beloved king of Korea emerged from this relationship.

An even more accurate description would be that it was the beginning of the end for both men and women as the adoption of Neo Confucianism as essentially the adoption of a totalitarian state. In Joseon no one was free and everyone was oppressed.

Fair to point out: Viki has the censored tvN version, and not the TVING version. Don't think the differences are that big as the difference in runtime in only like a minute, but thought I'd point it out nonetheless.

there is nude scenes in the tving version.... not that I really understand the point though as I am sure the tv version gonna convey the message anyway.

Honestly, the nudity is very minor. However, and I'm not gonna go into specifics here, but I do think the TVING version is better at getting the point across when it comes to the more explicit scenes.
