Wondering Who Is She with Kim Hae-sook and Jung Ji-so

It’s been 50 years in the making but KBS’s Who Is She is finally giving our aspiring singer an extraordinary chance, turning Kim Hae-sook (Mr. Plankton) back to her 20-year old self as Jung Ji-so (The Glory) in the newest batch of promos for the fantasy rom-com.

The video teaser opens on our Oh Mal-soon’s (Kim Hae-sook) audition where she’s met with contempt by Jinyoung (Sweet Home 3)’s aunt Cha Hwa-yeon (Goodbye Earth), a famed singer and talent agency CEO. But it seems bad blood has been brewing between the two women for quite some time, as suggested by the flashback in addition to Mal-soon’s dark comment about stealers.

This is when the drama has its abracadabra moment and Mal-soon is transformed into her younger self, taking on the new name of Oh Doo-ri (Jung Ji-so). She then contemplates in voiceover – as well as the text screens – “What to do if you can only pick one between fulfilling a 50-year old dream or getting payback on an enemy of 50 years?”

Though we don’t get an explicit answer on what Mal-soon chooses, we see in the sequence that our underdog heroine gets her long-awaited opportunity by somehow becoming an idol trainee. She is, of course, at a big disadvantage and music producer Daniel Han (Jinyoung) reminds her that she’s short on time.

If that wasn’t enough, Mal-soon also has to worry about secret identity shenanigans with granddaughter Chae Won-bin (Doubt) being a fellow trainee, leading both daughter Seo Young-hee (Face Me) and son-in-law In Gyo-jin (The Secret Romantic Guesthouse) to question who Doo-ri really is.

The teaser then ends on Mal-soon’s pragmatic resolve, wisely determining that, “Life is full of regrets when you look back on it anyway. If I’m going to get hurt whether I try to avoid it or try to fight it, isn’t it at least better to not have any regrets?”

Directed by PD Park Yong-soon (Secret Mother) with Heo Seung-min (Risky Romance) penning the scripts, KBS’s Who Is She is based on the 2014 film Miss Granny and will be coming to our screens on December 18.

I sense a love triangle in the elder Mal Soon's past. Also Jung Ji So looks very pretty in those photos.
