tvN greets the new year with their 2025 drama lineup

Wrapping up a year of many wins for tvN in 2024, the channel announced an exciting lineup for the new year ahead, gluing our eyes to the screen for 2025 as well. Although Resident Playbook seems to sadly remain on pause, we can still expect a plentiful crop of stories crossing different times and genres that we can hopefully squee and swoon over together.

Title: When the Stars Gossip
Release date: January 4
Need to know: Rocketing us beyond Earth’s stratosphere into deep space, the series makes OBGYN Lee Min-ho an unwelcome tourist at our story’s space station – with a ~secretive~ mission to boot – bringing him into the same orbit with astronaut Gong Hyo-jin. Launching off the new year in the weekend slot, the sci-fi rom-com also stars Oh Jung-se and Han Ji-eun.

Title: The Queen Who Crowns
Release date: January 6
Need to know: On weekdays in the Monday-Tuesday slot, we’ll be traveling back to early Joseon when the Lee dynasty established their power. Here, the events of history will be told through the eyes of Cha Joo-young’s Queen Won-kyung, the wife of Lee Bang-won (a.k.a. King Taejong) – played by Lee Hyun-wook.

Title: Seocho-dong
Release date: Q1 or Q2
Need to know: Starring Lee Jong-seok and Moon Ga-young, in addition to Kang Yoo-seok, Ryu Hye-young, and Im Sung-jae, the office romance has the group working in the district of our story’s Seocho-dong as fellow attorneys but from different firms. Forming a lawyer lunch club to make the most of their break times together, the story will follow our leads as they bond through life, work, and food.

Park Bo-young, Jinyoung

Title: Unknown Seoul
Release date: Q1 or Q2
Need to know: In a coming-of-age story about finding the meaning of life and love, Park Bo-young takes on the role of two twin sisters who somehow end up swapping lives. And as our leading man, Got7’s Jinyoung also gets entangled into the confusion between truth and lies.

Title: The Potato Lab (previously Potato Research Center)
Release date: Q1 or Q2
Need to know: Set around the titular potato research lab found in a far-off mountain valley, Lee Sun-bin stars as our potato-obsessed heroine in this wacky rom-com, sprouting potatoes as well as presumably love with newcomer Kang Tae-oh.

Title: Please Take Care of Geum-joo (roughly translated)
Release date: Q1 or Q2
Need to know: Coming from a family of big drinkers, Sooyoung never thought her own drinking habits were out of the norm. Enter doctor Gong Myung in this romance series who helps her see a different perspective and she sets out with new purpose to live alcohol-free.

Lee Dong-wook, Lee Joo-bin, Lee Kwang-soo, Lee Da-hee

Title: Divorce Insurance
Release date: Q1 or Q2
Need to know: Seating Lee Dong-wook, Lee Joo-bin, Lee Kwang-soo, and Lee Da-hee in cubicles, the office rom-com has our foursome putting their desks together in a team-up to develop what else but divorce insurance, as suggested by the title.

Title: My Dearest Nemesis (previously He’s the Black Dragon)
Release date: Q1 or Q2
Need to know: Moon Ga-young and Choi Hyun-wook are set to bicker their way from enemies to lovers in this webtoon adaptation. Having once been rival online gamers in their youth, it’s a shocking reunion when Choi shows up at Moon’s office workplace as their new young boss.

Title: Typhoon Corporation
Release date: Q3 or Q4
Need to know: Set during South Korea’s IMF crisis in the late 1990s, the period drama and underdog story has Junho becoming a CEO in his father’s absence. He then recruits Geum Sae-rok to help him in his struggle to run our title’s company and save his father’s business from going bankrupt.

Jo Yi-hyun, Choo Young-woo

Title: Gyun-woo and Fairy (roughly translated)
Release date: TBD
Need to know: Based on a popular webtoon by the same title, the supernatural romance makes Jo Yi-hyun a teenage shaman and we follow her journey as she tries to save her first love Choo Young-woo from a terrible fate.

Title: The Tyrant’s Chef
Release date: TBD
Need to know: A French cuisine chef is suddenly transported 500 years into the past, finding herself in the royal kitchens of a despot king – who just so happens to have a sensitive palate. The fantasy timeslip and webnovel adaptation is reportedly in talks with Yoon-ah and Park Sung-hoon.

Title: My Happy Home (roughly translated)
Release date: TBD
Need to know: Ending the list with a darker genre, the drama’s central Kim family is pushed to re-start their counterfeit money business in order to afford their medical bills. But this forces the family down a cruel path when they unexpectedly draw the attention of larger criminal groups. Casting for the series has not yet been announced.
