News bites: November 3, 2024

  • Netflix announced their lineup for The Wonder Fools, recruiting Park Eun-bin (Castaway Diva) and Cha Eun-woo (Wonderful World) to join the ranks of superheroes in a comedy-action adventure set in 1999. Also starring Kim Hae-sook (Gyeongseong Creature), Choi Dae-hoon (The Judge from Hell), Im Sung-jae (Hellbound 2), and Sohn Hyun-joo (Your Honor), production has PD Yoo In-shik (Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim) at the helm with scripts by Heo Da-joong (Extreme Job). • Ryu Seung-ryong (Chicken Nugget) is reviewing an offer to star in a new office series on JTBC, which seems to be going by the shortened title Mr. Kim – the full title, roughly translated, is The Story of Seoul Home Owner and Corporate Director Mr. Kim. With PD Jo Hyun-tak (SKY Castle) attached to direct, the webtoon adaptation is planning to start filming next year once the main cast has been finalized. [Newsen, Osen]
  • Jeon Yeo-bin (A Time Called You) has reportedly been cast in Good Woman Bu Se-mi (roughly translated), going from rags to riches under a new name and thrown into an inheritance battle owing to her terminally ill, chaebol, contract husband. In what will hopefully be a fun trope-fest, the series is expected to broadcast on ENA with production led by The Night Owl duo, director Ahn Tae-jin and writer Hyun Gyu-ri. [JTBC]

  • Over on tvN’s Love Your Enemy, the air is sweet with blooming lilacs in the new poster and character teasers (found here and here), rekindling romance for our reunited leads, Joo Ji-hoon (Blood Free) and Jung Yumi (The School Nurse Files). Bringing all the heart-fluttering feels come November 23, the series will be airing on weekends following Jeongnyeon – The Star is Born. [Newsen, Osen]
  • In the meantime, KBS is gearing up for its upcoming drama Face Me, releasing an extended preview ahead of this week’s premiere on November 6. Starring Lee Min-ki (Crash), Han Ji-hyun (Spice Up Our Love), Lee Yi-kyung (Marry My Husband), and Jeon Bae-soo (Dear Hyeri), the medical crime-mystery will be broadcasting in the Wednesday-Thursday slot. [MK Sports]
  • The promos continue on Netflix for the new season of Squid Game 2, gathering our mostly unsuspecting large cast onto the doomed playground for the new posters and stills, as well as the official teaser. Headlined by Lee Jung-jae (Chief of Staff, The Acolyte) and Lee Byung-heon (Our Blues) among many, many talents, the second tournament will begin on December 26 later this year. [Sports Donga]

I hope WonderFools turns out to be as fun as Extreme Job was!

I’m also excited for Face Me - hopefully the mystery is as good as the cast - and obviously Love Your Enemy! JJH in a romcom is a rare breed indeed.

Choi Dae Hoon! The Wonder Fools sounds interesting with the past time period plus comedy + heroes.

Squid Games 2... I'm not really excited about it, but I still want to check it out due to it being a sequel and to see how the story ends. Plus there were many supporting actors and actresses that I recognize compared to the first season. I hope it's not too gorey, but with it being on Netflix and the 2nd season, there's a good chance that stakes will be higher, actions more shocking and intense.

I am interested in JJH's romcom. To watch him act in a romcom after 10++ years is indeed rare and a blessing. Apart from that, I am looking forward to Face Me, where the medical genre meets the investigative/crime genre.

1) Park Eun-bin \o/

2 and 3) too soon to judge.

4) I love the fact we will get romances with couples of different ages in November!

5) It can be very good or very far-fetched, I hope for the best.

6) I'm curious about the new actors but not the drama itself.

1. Okay never did I ever imagine ... but then PEB and CEW may just turn out to be siblings or colleagues and not the OTP, right!? 🤷‍♀️

2. Good, hope RSR stays away from chicken for a while. 🍗

3. Huh!! *rubbing eyes in disbelief* Terminal illness 🤒 + fun trope-fest!? 🥳 ... and never the twain shall meet. Approach with skepticism. 🙈

4. Awww ... aren't they sweet. 👫 Huh!? Both links are the same teaser!?

5. Lee Min-ki ... enough said. 🙃❤😊
