Same-name ex-lovers Joo Ji-hoon and Jung Yumi reunite
by solstices
It’s a tear-filled reunion in tvN’s upcoming rom-com Love Your Enemy, with a pair of childhood friends — and star-crossed lovers — encountering each other again after 18 long years apart. Much has changed since, even as they still carry the scars of their painful separation. But perhaps this is an opportunity for a fresh start.
Ever since they were born, our leads have been inextricably linked together — by none other than their names. See, their respective families have been at loggerheads since time immemorial, and what do mortal enemies do when both households welcome a newborn on the exact same day? Give them the same name, apparently.
With that, the two infants wind up sharing the name Ji-won. Their connection blossoms into romance during their school days, but alas, their family feud ultimately drives them apart. Nearly two decades later, we meet Joo Ji-hoon (Blood Free) as a grown-up Seok Ji-won. “It’s really you, Yoon Ji-won,” he murmurs, voice tinged with a wistful disbelief, as he gazes at Jung Yumi (The School Nurse Files).
Tears brim in his eyes just as they do in hers, but Yoon Ji-won puts up a prickly front in place of her sorrow. She’s a physical education teacher at Dokmok High, and he’s become the school’s new chairman — did he really have to come to where she is? In an attempt to mask his hurt, Seok Ji-won ends up lashing out. “Who do you think you are,” he snaps, “that I’d come all the way here just to see you? Don’t be mistaken.” Then he deliberately uses a formal form of address, calling her Teacher Yoon as if to emphasize their distance.
The stark reminder of their current circumstance stings deeply, and Yoon Ji-won’s emotions finally spill over. “Seok Ji-won, I really hate you too,” she bites out, calling him horrible. It’s clear both of them have their defenses up high to protect their festering wounds, but it’s exactly this hurt that reveals they still care — and perhaps their enduring love might just be enough to mend the bridge between them.
Helmed by Park Joon-hwa (Alchemy of Souls) and Bae Hee-young, with scripts penned by Im Ye-jin (Tale of Nokdu), Love Your Enemy is slated for a November 23 premiere.

Another set of tissues to be bought by December. Is it?🤧.
I really wish it maintains the tempo of What Comes After Love in its storytelling. I'm more interested in the angst than the happy moments. Better put: I hope they don't shove all this angst into the first few episodes and bring down their defenses. I want their defenses to be thawed, not swift.

I’m excited for this but actually most curious what the feud between their families is about. Something insignificant and petty? Something that happened so long ago that no one actually remembers what it was? Some actual legitimate event that they have wildly different interpretations of? Do tell.

Praying that it’s a ‘hurting so much that it’s good’ drama.

I clearly remember it was supposed to be a romcom - JJH's "first one since GOONG!!!" no less. So, uhm, where's the comedy then? I like the cast, but not in the mood for endless sob-fest...

Really, as that how it was marketed!? Gosh I got goosebumps just reading that description. 😅😂 Sigh, the teaser doesn't seem even remotely like a worthy successor then. 🤦♀️ Not a fan of the new English title either. 🤷♀️
Let's see. Meanwhile we will just hope for the best and keep our fingers crossed. 🤞🏻

I remember it vividly because it was such a loud headline - and utter nonsense btw - so now seeing all those tears in new promos gives me hardcore "misleading advertisement" vibes. Couldn't find the exact article mentioning word "romcom" (I swear there was one! I read it and couldn't believe my eyes!), but this is close:

It reminds me Discovery of Love that I really liked. Jung Yumi is good in this kind of role.

I don't know why I thought this would be a rom-com, not a "melo". But it's ok, I'll watch it anyways.
