Lee Yumi jilts the altar for Mr. Plankton Woo Do-hwan

Netflix’s Mr. Plankton has announced their arrival on dramaland’s seascape, diving us into a rom-com adventure with Woo Do-hwan (Bloodhounds) and Lee Yumi (Strong Girl Nam-soon) in the first poster and teaser.

In a story about not their first but last love, the teaser begins with some pretty sad news as Hae Jo (Woo Do-hwan) receives a terminal diagnosis and Jo Jae-mi (Lee Yumi) learns that she has premature menopause. It is of course worst for our hero. But it’s still not a great situation for the engaged Jae-mi who is supposed to be marrying into a traditional clan family, where duty calls for bearing sons to carry on the lineage.

Feeling sympathetic, Hae Jo passes Jae-mi his umbrella with nary a word of explanation and then surprises her again by showing up on the very day of her wedding. Having embarked on what might be his last ever trip, Hae Jo offers his hand to help Jae-mi run away and join him in his travel. Sorry Oh Jung-se (Sweet Home 3), I… er… don’t know how to say this but… I think your bride has… uhm… left.

We thus cut to our pair on this unexpected road trip, squabbling, fighting, and running across the country back roads in the sequence. With ingredients like these, we can certainly hope for a deliciously fun rom-com, though we are reminded of the bittersweet element as the teaser ends on Hae Jo’s wistful remark.

Helmed by PD Hong Jong-chan (Link: Eat Love Kill, Dear My Friends) with scripts by Jo Yong (It’s Okay to Not Be Okay), Netflix’s Mr. Plankton will be released for streaming on November 8.

This November, Brewing Love's first ep airs on 4th, then Gangnam B Side on 6th, and Mr. Plankton and The Fiery Priest 2 both on 8th. Will I need to quit my job to keep up with live watching of these??

Is it a better or worse situation if some of them turn out to be duds that need dropping?

It is worse, because I’ve been anticipating these, although I don’t think I will be able to watch them all live!! I’ll pray they will all be good, but it means the bean count will be difficult because I won’t have enough beans for shows I love.

The original airdate for Mr. Plankton was in December. I actually threw my hands in the air when I saw it was moved to November, days after Brewing Love 😂

Oooooh, this looks like it’s right up my alley - finally. I’d say the only downside is, that I now have the Heidi theme song stuck in my head. 😖 (It’s the cheeks, people! Paired with Lee Yumi‘s adorable quirkiness.)

Which version of the theme tune. I read the line and heard a random song play in my head. Decided to look up the theme tune to the 1978 version of Heidi and lo and behold the exact song I heard in my head started to play😮 How does that even work when the last time I would have heard it was as a child back in the day. How come I can’t remember my course work from the lecture I heard yesterday?🫤

Haha, my „earworm“ stems from the animated series‘ opening (there are even lyrics! And yodeling!), but this must have been from the 70s or 80s, too. 🥳
And yes, it’s exactly because we have stuff like this already wasting too much memory space in our brain, that we cannot remember things we „added later“ - like yesterday’s lectures for example. Don’t ask me how to override though. Simply might not be possible. 🤪

It's the music my love! Set your lecture to music and it will come ringing through your brain in no time!

I like the look of this one as the natural disaster will be the baddie and it looks funny.

This creeped up on me. It looks pretty good. I forgot about the terminal illness part though. 😭

Woo Do-hwan and Lee Yoo-mi look great together, but they're not going to have a happy ending, are they? 😢

Anything can happen in dramaland! Even a good ending somehow over the rainbow happening.

That's the reason I'm hesitant to watch this. Maybe I'll wait until it's done airing.

While waiting for Woo Do-hwan (and Lee Sang-yi and addition Rain) in Netflix’s BLOODHOUNDS 2, Netflix’s (10 eps) MR. PLANKTON will definitely provide a needed Woo Do-hwan fix.
What’s not indicated in the article above is that Jo (WDH) is on a mission with this road trip: (according to MDL’s synopsis) to find his unknown real father. MR. PLANKTON’s Wikipedia entry identifies the cast member who plays Jo’s father (so I won’t here).
