Lee Jong-won is Brewing Love for Kim Se-jung

Raise your glasses and get ready to cheer with Kim Se-jung (The Uncanny Counter 2: Counter Punch) and Lee Jong-won (Bad Memory Eraser) in ENA’s upcoming romantic comedy Brewing Love.

The newest trailer opens with the queen of liquor sales Chae Yong-joo (Kim Se-jung) leading her team in a chant. She is an exuberant, dedicated, and passionate worker who faces any challenge with gusto, and her next task is recruiting brewmaster Yoo Min-joo (Lee Jong-won).

Introduced with a twinkling sound effect, Min-joo pours out a glass of beer, and Baek Sung-chul (Tell Me That You Love Me) stares at his face, enthralled by his good looks. Unlike Yong-joo, Min-joo is prickly, distant, and sensitive. His catchphrase is “block” as he keeps people an arm’s length away, but to his dismay, they continue invading his space.

Out of these pesky meddlers, Yong-joo is the most persistent as she chases after him and slams her hands against his car window. She pops up everywhere Min-joo goes and even suggests coming to work at his place starting tomorrow. Min-joo stomps his feet in frustration as he thinks of Yong-joo, but she laughs heartily, seemingly unaware of his distress.

The show, though, would not be a rom-com if our hero stayed angry for too long, and as Yong-joo trips over a rake, Min-joo instinctively catches her. Looking at her smiling face, his heart beats faster, and someone comments that opposites attract. When Yong-joo asks him why he hates her so much, he does not answer, and as they get closer, he wonders why he cannot control himself whenever he sees her. It seems the cold brewmaster may be warming up to our bubbly saleswoman.

Directed by Park Sun-ho (Business Proposal) with scripts written by Lee Jung-shin, ENA’s Brewing Love is slated for twelve episodes and premieres November 4 in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

Like @midnight astutely commented in the Drama Chat, 2024 seems to be the year of the quirky!! While I like my MLs to be tsundere, Min-joo seems more quirky than tsundere. Nonetheless, I'm excited to give this drama a cheers!! 🍻

Here’s hoping this is the drama where the small town gossipy neighbours are not a thing and everyone is one happy family.

THis looks fun and I'm up for a cute meet romance. The main leads make it look even more fun and who's against staring at his handsome face and her light up the world smile?!

It is to be determined if Lee Jong-won will have had in 2024 the kind of dramatic success in one year that Jang Dang-yoon had in 2023 with KBS’s OASIS, Netflix’s DAILY DOSE OF SUNSHINE and ENA’s LIKE FLOWERS IN SAND. (Note: OASIS was not everyone’s cup of tea but I loved it.)
Lee Jong-won started off his 2024 with the five star MBC’s KNIGHT FLOWER.
I didn’t watch and I personally don’t consider his next drama that aired a 2024 drama: MBN’s BAD MEMORY ERASER. That drama sat on the shelf since when, 2022 maybe before being dusted off and airing this year.
While waiting for his next drama I thoroughly enjoyed his 2019 short episodes drama OUR BASEBALL (available free as a playlist on Youtube).
Which brings us to his 2024 wrap up drama ENA’s BREWING LOVE. If the title had remained DRUNKEN ROMANCE Inwould not even considered watching. However with the title change and the fact that I like both leads I will give BREWING LOVE a tentative watch with rip cord firmly in hand. Too many early cringe worthy kdrama drinking scenes and it is adios. Hopefully that won’t be the case and we will have an enjoyable end of year drama.

If the drink scenes are going to be an issue it will only be in the first few episodes like we saw in Welcome to Samdalri and Dr Slump. So there must be some clause with the alcohol PPL that they need to start strong to embed the message that watching a drama with an alcoholic drink is the best way to enjoy it. Once they have set up the connection, the audience are getting the drinks in before settling down with the drama so there is no need for the constant reminders. I wonder if the drinks scenes are also put in just before the ad breaks too.
