[Drama Chat] Transmigrating into a K-drama

If you’ve ever imagined yourself in the shoes of a K-drama character, this chat is for you. It’s never going to happen for real, but WHAT IF… it was possible to pull off a Spice Up Our Love and transmigrate into a K-drama?

I don’t have a specific drama in mind, but I think my exploits in the story world will largely depend on the character I slip into. And in a sea of aspiring chefs, undercover chaebols and demon-possessed judges, my transmigration heart definitely lies in the wallet that houses a black card — who is most often than not NOT the female lead. Dramaland heroines are too busy dealing with poverty, noble idiocy or other relationship-related drama, and I refuse to be subject to that life in my fantasies. I’d rather watch from the sidelines in the shoes of a boss lady who’s smart, rich, pretty, a go-getter and ~awesome~ to boot. I’m looking at you, Veronica Park.

Over to you, Beanies. If you could transmigrate into a K-drama, which drama — and character — would you choose?

Let the chatting begin!

Thank you, @Unit, for this interesting prompt.

If I would be a woman in a Kdrama, I would love to be the FL in Soundtrack#2. There are 2 reasons: (1) Most importantly, I love to be able to play the piano. And I love that I would work with that young musician (I forgot his name) to create something nice. (2) I haven’t done any side job IRL my whole life, and I want to experience what the FL does to support herself financially for once.

If I would be a man, I would love to be Park Junmo in The Worst of Evil, so that I wouldn’t push my “wife” Euijeong away, but would be by her side to work things out and heal from all the trauma that the undercover mission brought upon us and have a happy ending with her ☺️

I think you make an important point to have their life in terms of work or skill set but it would be great to keep your own personality.

If I'm doing it for the clothes, either Scarlett (Lee Da-hee) in Search: WWW or Cha Yeon-hwa (Lee Mi-sook) in Perfect Marriage Revenge.

If I'm doing it to change the story, I'd go to offer a braincell or two to Lee Hong-jo (Jo Bo-ah) in Destined with You. There's no reason for "to Hong-jo" to be an actual verb meaning "behave idiotically and without forethought." Having made smarter decisions, she might even pick the other guy.

If I'm doing it to "see what being like that is like," I'd pick Kim Baek-du (Jang Dong-yoon) in Like Flowers in Sand. He's sort of like umami: beefy, consistent, and you couldn't do without him, yet hard to identify and not at all assertive. He doesn't get along by his wits, that's for sure--but he's also no Hong-jo!

🤣🤣🤣
Don't. Do. That!
Your braincells are too valuable to waste them like this!

If there ever was someone who needed every braincell she can get, it's Hong-jo. I'll donate one of mine, too.
That said: There was another guy next to Rowoon in Destined With You?

I don’t care so much about which character but I would want to be part of a team that fights for righteousness and has fun doing it like in Chief Kim or The Fiery Priest. But I’d probably be more like the fawning neighbors trying to join Vincenzo, lol.

I want to inhabit the drama world of 30 but 17. I will be a piano playing version of Woo Seo Ri, but without having spent 13 years in a coma. It will be so cool to be surrounded by all the loveable drama characters (Jennifer!!!) and live in that cute house.

My first thought was I'd like to be a rich character in a k-drama because that's not likely to happen in real life, but I don't want all the drama like plotting in-laws, etc. Something like the game company CEO in Strong Woman Do Bong-soon would be fun, but only after all the serial killer stuff is over (and in real life, game companies are a mess). So realistically, bookstore owner in When the Weather is Fine or wearing Gong Yoo's shoes as a cafe owner in Coffee Prince is more my speed.

Now this is fun.

If I'll be transmigrating into a drama and character, I'll be going for Life. The character? The character Gu Seung-hyo. For one reason and one reason alone - to tap into the future and learn how the romance between him and Pediatric Dr. Lee No-eul played out. Jo Seung-woo already took very good care of the rest.

If I'll be a chaebol, I'll migrate into the character of Bae Kyung-min(Kim Seok-hoon) in Ruby Ring, just to prevent the mistake he made of exchanging the ruby ring. Alas! That ends the story. And to send a kick or two to the doctor who changed their faces.

If I'll be a woman, I'll migrate into my all time favorite Mishil in Queen Seondeok. I'm not doing anything new, I'm simply living one of my best lifes.

Third Guy (Kim Hwan-dong, played by Kim Nam-hee) in Chicken Nugget, so I can eat snacks and watch the chaos unfold around me.

Uhm... If I'm losing my family and friends, even if it's temporarily, I need decent people around me and zero problems.

So I would like to be the Sun Woo's little sister in Reply 88. All she had to do was jump-dance and eat. She didn't have to deal with any of the drama but she was there to witness all the fun.

But if this is a you-can't-go-back situation, I think I would prefer being Mi Ran from Like Flowers in Sand. Her coffee shop had the best view, the entire neighborhood would be my new family, and she was friends with such awesome group and she had pretty hair.
And let's get real, that girl was rich because her shop was closed, like, all the time, and she barely had clients there. No way she was working to earn a living. LMAO

In a "(truly) becoming the character for a day" situation, I would choose a Han Hyo Joo character. Because she's always awesome from head to toe, and her partners too. Not Spring Waltz tho. I mean W, Moving, Happiness... Maybe even Shinning Inheritance because Chae Won unnie Seung Gi.

That description of Mi Ran was 🔥. And it gave me a new perspective on her little coffee shop. 🤯 she’s secretly rich

Woo young woo. I would still work at a large law firm if I could get away with the things she gets away with and have a mentor who appreciates hard work and creativity.

Or any drama where I get to be a gumiho. I would be the best gumiho.

The only character that comes to mind is Song-Hwa in Hospital Playlist. She's got an incredible job and incredible friends. Loves to sing regardless of how well, and is very cool with an electric bass.

Maybe Dali also. Very elegant, sweet, and funny, and surrounded by art.

Han Yeri's role in My Unfamiliar Family too. Very normal, caring, open person. Even if she didn't deal well with the cheating boyfriend situation, she figured out how to apologize properly and got the right guy in the end.

In an alternative life, I could imagine to be working in an art gallery like Deok-mi in HER PRIVATE LIFE, sporting my most outrageously colorful pantsuits collection. I’d deal with my flamboyant boss from time to time (admiring her wardrobe - but maybe dreading her expectations), work with artists, or even just spend days in the office, losing myself in planning the next exhibition. Sounds pretty eclectic and sweet!

Mind you, in my free time I’d have to find another hobby though. Keeping up with that level of fangirling (traveling around to take photos, maintaining a website and handling an online community) sounds super stressful... 🤔 Maybe I’d rather remodel my cozy rooftop apartment. Or just hang out with my bestie in her café. Oh, and then of course they’d transfer Ryan to my workplace! 🦁 Never a boring moment, that’s for sure.

I'd move to Daeho of Alchemy of Souls and would be the first female professor for magic by day and would write romance novels by night - strangely enough, sometimes I would get caught up in a novel and wake up in another fantasy world.
I would learn to make horrible kimchi, eat all the honey cakes and swan about in fabulous clothes. I would only be able to leave only if I ever get over my Second Lead Syndrom (and, in the case of AoS, also the Third, Fourth Lead Syndrom).
Which would be never.
Such is the power of the Hong Sisters - their world building is so good, their characters are so much fun, I don't really mind that most of their endings suck.

I absolutely love So Ji Sub in Master's Sun. So even if I am not really liking the FL's powers. I may endure if to solve the problem is to touch him. 😅 and be adored by Joo Joong Won.
