Black Out is so good. Everybody and their mother must've watched Episode 8 after Episode 7's cliffhanger. I love Byun Yo-han and Ko Jun teaming up together. I LOVE Ko Jun in this role. I also love Ha Seol and Su-oh oppa's relationship.

No Gain No Love is the best show on television, but it's early days. I'm sure we'll get childhood first love and hidden chaebol tropes. Also, I know the spin-off is between Lee Sang-yi and Han Ji-hyun, but I ship Ja-yeon with secretary-turned-erotic-novel-hero Ha-jun.

Love Next Door reminds me why I hated Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha.

Hate is a strong word but you've piqued my interest haha. Why do you hate those shows?

Screenwriter Shin Ha-eun, who wrote Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha and Love Next Door, and I just don’t get along. Her characterization is awful, and this is more tvN's fault, but her episodes are so long and meandering with no direction. There's always some kind of trauma backstory and townspeople conflict, like Love Next Door isn't a romcom -- it's a slice-of-life melo.

Having dropped Hometown Chachacha despite loving Shin Minha, I completely agree with you.

On the other hand, I was curious to see if Kim Hye-young would confirm the great impression I got from watching Her Private Life, and I'm so glad she did in No Gain No Love. I think we have a very good writer on the rise.

Her Private Life had amnesia, forgotten childhood connection, forgotten brother, so that writer is not off the hook. Like I said, it's early days, but one thing I appreciate is the dialogue in No Gain No Love is very adult, whereas with idols and fangirling, Her Private Life leaned more juvenile.

Interesting! I enjoy dramas where they show how people work, such as My Mister and Another Miss Oh. But Hometown Cha Cha they way ML was working was neither believable nor interesting. Love next door is the same. Supposedly a good architect, a great artist a good cook, they are not believable at all.

In my opinion, No Gain No Love should have better ratings but I can also see why it's currently at this point. I hope it increases over its run.

On the other side, I don't personally think Love Next Door should've jumped up to the 6 area. I have seen some comments swooning over the Seung Jun (is that his name?) but I just personally don't see it especially over these last 2 weeks. If it's about the actual storytelling then I'm still not seeing it. Maybe people are into it cause they find the characters or situations (such as with the parents) relatable?

I dropped LND, but all of the comments here seem pretty anti-Seung-jun - like finding him the OPPOSITE of swoonworthy

Yep. He's more like "toxic guy next door"

Since I see the Sat-Sun shows have much higher ratings on Sunday*, I wondered if it's simply that Sat is much more crowded so the total pie is split among many more shows. But the total ratings share for all the listed dramas on Sat is 47.4% while for Sunday it is 31.5%. So something more complicated is happening. Or it could just be Good Partner. 🤷

*Except DNA Lover. What's happening there?

tbf only the FL lives in it, the rest of the characters are pretty grounded.

My Ugly ducking (aka My Little Old Boy) is on Sunday, that's where the rest of the rating goes.

It's good to see MBC's BLACK OUT increase in ratings.
No one should be surprised at the rating "Bad Memory Eraser."

Damn, I feel kinda bad for the Bad Memory Eraser team (even though I don't watch the show)

Don't. There's no reason they had to air this thing, unless they made a promise to Dung-Flex Laxatives to run their PPL. I'm a little surprised they've not pulled it off the air, in fact. If I weren't enjoying it so damn much, I might start my own petititon! 😆

It's just MBN riding off of Lee Jong-won's Knight Flower popularity.

If so, it's not working.

Then they tainted his popularity. People need to rewatch Knight Flower

Actually the show I feel bad for Cinderella at 2 AM. These last two episodes were a let down, but its not that terrible, and to be in the same ratings neighborhood as Bad Memory Eraser is to risk being smeared with excrement.

I actually AM surprised. Its ratings went UP to .4% on Friday? Who was that extra viewer and why?

You might disagree @hacja but I think those faithful few beanies who are watching/enjoying (at times) little Channel A’s CINDERELLA AT 2AM have developed a certain maternal/paternal (depending on where you are comes from) affection for it. We want to get our ‘kids’ over the finish line (and it is only 10 sixty minute episodes for those who might want to take the plunge) with everyone in the right loving relationship, right?
The introduction of the painter in episode 6 (Lee Hyun-woo) adds some drama.
(LND was a soft drop for me after four episodes. Iwas there for Jung Hae-in. It wasn’t so much the story but the anticipation of another 12 episodes at the infamous tvN episode length made it a soft drop. I wish it luck.)

Good Partner and Perfect Family are the only ones I am watching on the current shows. I am glad that both are doing well for their timeslots.

Where are you guys watching Blackout?! I want to watch it too.

I don’t know where others are watching, but eight episodes became available in the US on Hulu at the beginning of the month. I feel like I already missed the boat for a live watch, but I’m planning on starting it next!

Black Out is good and Byun Yo-han is terrific in it. Repeating the warning I put in the recap thread: Hulu has re-cut the broadcast episodes and left several key scenes out, including some that establish background and motivation for several characters. They moved the breaks between episodes, too, so the flow of the narrative is off. If you have access to a different way of watching, that would probably be better.

Good looking out! I’ll try to look elsewhere. Why on earth is hulu out to ruin dramas?! First the closed captions instead of subtitles and now this? (I’m staying away from recaps to avoid spoilers for now, so thanks for repeating the warning here.)

Same. Staying away from the recap too and I am sad its not on any of my existing subscriptions.

Our weekender is winding down and ratings probably reflect more the audience simply being curious as to how it will end. We do not see blockbuster ratings in part because so many shows are now crowded onto the weekends. But I also think that the emphasis on makjang and corporate struggles which have characterized the last several of these has been a turn off for a genre that is supposed to be about relationships and families.

NO GAIN NO LOVE has made Mondays fun again- it deserves more love. I say that recognizing that it is getting a decent audience for its time slot.
