Drama viewership ratings for the week of September 16-22, 2024
by tccolb
With Chuseok taking place, No Gain No Love saw a fairly big drop along with Perfect Family’s dip on Wednesday. The latter managed to bounce back for its finale after the holiday, but it along with Cinderella at 2AM and Bad Memory Eraser had a quiet exit behind Good Partner’s stronger run into the finish line. Beauty and Mr. Romantic ended on a high note as well, next to a rising Black Out and Love Next Door – while The Judge from Hell makes her devilish entrance with a good head start.

"Judge from hell" is so much fun, the massive ratings jump between episode 1 and 2 is definately a good sign.
MBC has quietly been churning out hit weekend dramas for an entire year, considering they were a laughing stock 2 years ago its honestly impressive.
30%+ dramas are now officially extinct, the last few weekenders have clearly shown us that.

The person at MBC who made the decision to preempt one episode of Black Out last week deserves a raise because odd-numbered Episode 11 was the best cliffhanger to end this week. This drama has such good word of mouth in Korea, so I hope it reaches 10% by its finale.
The Judge from Hell's back-to-back premiere episodes hitting 9.3% is great, and I hope it maintains good ratings for its run.

I enjoyed the first two episodes of The Judge From Hell. Its the first PSH role I have liked in a long time!
I am sad to see Perfect Family and Good Partner end. I am happy they both got great ratings. Both also had satisfying endings!

Our Weekender ended at above 21%- mostly just people tuning in to see how things wrapped up- which was mostly satisfying.

I hope No Gain No Love bounces back this week.
I've seen some post that Black Out is having a surge of word of mouth positivity. Kudos to them.
Too bad for the shows that didn't end well. Here's hoping the cast and production folks do better next time.

@britney You are too nice. But the idea that the cast and production folks of Bad Memory Eraser might do "better" next time, producing not just one of the worst kdramas of all time, but actually THE worst television show of all time, actually inspires a feeling of dread.

(Full disclosure: I did NOT watch BME.) Presumably @hacja at least in Lee Jong-won’s case he did do better with his appearance in MBC’s KNIGHT FLOWER which according to Wikipedia completed production in August, 2023. I can’t nail the date down for when BME completed production but I am sure it was BEFORE KNIGHT FLOWER completed production and my impression somehow was that it sat in the shelf for awhile.

Bad Memory Eraser completed production in February 2022. Lee Jong-won definitely filmed this drama before Knight Flower.

Lee Jong-won delivered a consistently good performance in Bad Memory Eraser when he wasn't being ask to pretend he was shitting in the woods. Truly, he and the 2FL (Yang Hye-ji) gave this crappy drama their all.
The reason that this show is the
bestworst thing ever had more to do with the non-plot, the editing, the leads, the sound effects, the music, the non-existent message, the EDITING, the medical ethics, the writing, the direction...everything except the cinematography and a few acting performances. It is definitely worth your time to watch.

I am not surprised at your assessment of LJW’s performance. However BME won’t happen for me.
After all, KBS’s DOG KNOWS EVERYTHING (Viki US!) is calling and premiers tomorrow.
I really hope ENA’s BREWING LOVE becomes available on a legal stream for me. That will be my next LJW drama.

Well, @attiton, you are giving Lee Jong-won more credit that I would, but it is hard for me to separate the shows other failures from the acting --all are tarred with the same production brush.
Just as an aside, to @britney @gikata @marcusnyc20 of course I am exaggerating if I put Bad Memory Eraser in the context of global television. There are dozens of U.S. shows that I actually sat through that are worse. It is true, though, I really cannot come up with a kdrama rom-com that was this bad overall, really from beginning to end. Maybe My Shy Boss had some similar flaws and left me with this feeling that I had sat through something historically bad. But all the other kdrama rom-coms I've sat through, and believe me, I've sat through a lot, had some redeeming quality--and since as I said, I'm personally not putting Lee Jong-Won's performance as something that helped, I would have to say this one is the top worst.

@hacja I haven't watched Manhole, which interestingly stars the same lead actor, but I have read many many comments naming it as the the worst show ever.

@midnight Yes, well, thanks a lot. Now I'm going to have to go watch another bad show to compare. You've started me down a bad drama manhole.

@hacja 😂 Don't. Watch Please Don't Date Him instead.

@midnight No, no, no. Please Don't Date Him is a good to really-quite-good drama!! No comparison to what I'm seeing on MDL for Manhole, which frankly has me pretty excited to watch this new horror.
An ALIEN manhole? "IDK WTF happened?" as the most common comment? I see it's on Kocowa so I can have 2x speed. I'm so in.

@attiton 🤣🤣 I LOVE PDDH! I wasn't trying to suggest a bad drama 😂 I thought you guys needed a serious palate cleanser!!
But from what I'm witnessing, you guys aren't gonna stop until you've watched Manhole! 🤣 Do it and entertain us as you go, please!

@midnight. Your comment almost gave me the urge to have a semi-monthly "bad drama community watch." Its frequency would depend on how masochistic group members were feeling, and the one rule would have to be no drama over 20 episodes--while we all might welcome a little pain, we are not willing to torture ourselves. The groups slogan: "We don't drop until the badness stops"

I’ll start Manhole tonight to see how it rates in terms of a “percent as bad a BME.”
Then, we shall see if the bad drama community watch needs to happen… Or is it the bad community fan wall watch?

I am glad the holiday season is a reasonable explanation for No gain, no love’s drop as it probably was on at the wrong time to risk a live family watch due to some of the adult content. I hope it make a comeback next week and does even better than last week as I really want it to be above 5% when it ends.
