Sakaguchi Kentaro ponders over What Comes After Love

Coupang Play is ready to tug at our heartstrings next month with its upcoming romance What Comes After Love. Based off the bestselling novel of the same name by Gong Ji-young and Tsuji Hitonari, this six-episode adaptation stars Lee Se-young (The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract) as Choi Hong and Sakaguchi Kentaro (Dr. Chocolate) as her ex-boyfriend Aoki Jungo.

The previous teaser shared Hong’s perspective of the unexpected reunion between the once lovers, and now, the newest teaser takes Aoki’s perspective of their crossing, five years after their break-up. While Aoki reflects on fate and miracles — just different words for coincidences, he claims — seeing Hong again in the flesh reminds him of their past together and makes him question his beliefs.

The moment he saw her on the streets while sitting on the bus, Aoki’s eyes were drawn to Hong from the very beginning of their relationship. They then meet again, becoming lovers, and the memories they shared are filled with laughter and hugs. However, that was in their past, and present-day Aoki, all dressed in black, is surprised to see his ex-girlfriend at the airport after all these years.

Though he never believed in things like fate, the only way Aoki can explain this chance encounter is to call it a miracle. A woman who could not forget and a man who now believes, what does the future hold for them? Do second chances really exist, or is there always a reason something fails the first time around? If the drama is anything like its moody promotional materials, I think we might have a wistful and beautiful romance gracing our screens soon.

Directed by filmmaker Moon Hyun-sung (Seoul Vibe, The King’s Case Note) who is also co-writing the script with Jung Hae-shim, Coupang Play’s What Comes After Love premieres Friday, September 27.

There are so many second chance at love this year but I am liking the mood of this drama (based on teasers) the most.

I like the way you point out your hopes are based on the teasers, as we have ALL been caught out by the drama in the trailer calling us over and then the actual drama being something unexpected.

So true. I hope they keep the same mood as the teasers. If not, at least similar as expected 😅

I am looking forward to this one. I wonder if it will be a cross cultural version of the Soundtrack #2 storyline with the long distance element being the problem rather than the pressures of poverty.

"A wistful and beautiful romance gracing our screens" is just what I need. Its short and hopefully sweet even if there is bittersweet in it.

They look so good together! 😊I find myself wishing for more episodes given the main lead's caliber, but maybe 6 will be just right and provide a tight, cohesive story. Hoping for the best!

Will the drama also offer different POVs of the characters. Seems intentional.
