Premiere Watch: Romance in the House

Time slot: Saturday-Sunday
Broadcaster: JTBC
Genre: Family, melo, rom-com
Episode count: 12
Global Streamer: Netflix

Reasons to watch: Well, this should be fun. Prodigal father Ji Jin-hee returns after once disgracing and abandoning his family. Now, he’s a wealthy landlord trying to win back the affection of his wife (Kim Ji-soo), daughter (Sohn Na-eun), and son (Yoon San-ha). Hmm, something tells me he won’t lose. From the Korean title (literally Family x Melo) to the promos thus far, it looks like Romance in the House will be a self-aware drama that isn’t afraid to pull all the punches.

TL;DR: Prepare to get your pants charmed off.

I am looking forward to this and hoping that it is an interesting watch that focuses on relationships and communication of ‘real’ people and their conflict. I am imagining My unfamiliar family and Dear my friends type drama.

With Olympics ending this weekend, it’s perfect timing!! I am
Ready to return to dramaland and this one could be a nice more romance. Also, been a while since I saw Ji Jin-Hee
Even better that it’s only 12 episodes. I see it on Netflix! Yay!

It is definitely worth skipping serendipity, andante and bad eraser (throughout the Olympic week). I look forward to Ji Jin Hee and a nice family drama.

🤔 @missvictrix, is “prepare to get your pants charmed off” a subtle reference to Ji Jin Hee baring his butt in The Man Who Couldn’t Marry? 😉

Me too. But everyone should note that this is not a romcom- it is a melo. Which is fine by me.

I enjoyed the first two episodes. It did a good job setting up the context. Father was driven out because he was financially irresponsible but seems to have spent the last 10 years trying to dig himself out of the hole he created to win back his wife as a success instead of a failure. It's a nice romantic premise. It's refreshing to see a mature ML for a change.

The show started out strongly hinting that he is now a gangster who murdered the former landlord because he refused to sell the property. I think that is too heavy-handed and too early in the drama not to be a misdirection.
