Park Bo-gum is an athletic Good Boy

Clockwise: Park Bo-gum, Kim So-hyun, Oh Jung-se, Tae Won-seok, Heo Sung-tae, Lee Sang-yi

Just in time for the Olympics season, the official lineup for JTBC’s investigative action-comedy Good Boy has been announced, featuring former elite athletes who lay down their sporting gear to pick up the police badge.

Park Bo-gum (Record of Youth) headlines as the star boxer Yoon Dong-joo, whose fists once flew as swift as shooting stars. Alas, a single incident tanked his career and tarnished his honor, dashing his hopes of returning to the boxing ring. Then a second chance presents itself in the police force’s special recruitment for medalists, newly reinstated after eleven years. As Dong-joo steps into the unfamiliar sphere of law enforcement, the world rife with immoral crime reawakens his fighting spirit, stoking the ardent flames of justice.

Joining him on the squad is Kim So-hyun (Serendipity’s Embrace) as Ji Hanna, the shooting gold medalist who’s now the senior officer of the special Violent Crimes task force. Nicknamed the “shooting goddess” during her sporting career, Hanna once basked in the support of her adoring fans — but with popularity comes the flipside of anti-fan vitriol. Driven to retirement, Hanna reframed her ambitions, deciding instead to follow in her father’s footsteps and become an officer. Now, her gun points not toward paper targets, but toward incorrigible criminals.

On the other side of the law, Oh Jung-se (Sweet Home 3) takes on the role of Min Joo-young, a level 7 civil servant with a burgeoning ambition deep within. By day, he’s a diligent customs officer; upon nightfall, his affable smile turns malicious. Lurking in the shadows, Joo-young wreaks havoc upon the city through evil deeds.

Rounding out our police squad, we have Lee Sang-yi (My Demon) as the assistant inspector and fencing silver medalist Kim Jong-hyun, who stepped down from the piste after sustaining an injury. Heo Sung-tae (Crash) flexes his guns as Go Man-shik, the wrestling bronze medalist who now serves as the team’s leader. Last but not least, we have another senior officer in Tae Won-seok (Player 2: Master of Swindlers), as the discus throw bronze medalist Shin Jae-hong.

Helmed by PD Shim Na-yeon (Beyond Evil, The Good Bad Mother) with scripts written by Lee Dae-il (Life on Mars), Good Boy is set to begin on November 16.

It looks interesting and I like the actors, even if Kim So-Hyun doesn't look as the athletic type for me.

Kim Yeji is the only one that comes to mind now when I hear the words shooting goddess but I trust in Kim Sohyun delivering on her acting as always. Someone needs to post that pic of them in Olympic uniforms.

One of the top shooters this year was a 51-year-old man who looked more like he had just gotten up from his regular table at the pub to fire that shot and get back down. He was teaming with a younger, better woman, but together they won silver. What I'm saying is you don't have to look athletic to shoot well.

I was not talking about shooting but about being a cop.

Yeah and it just took 16 years for someone to finally give her this proper combination. Let's hope she continues to get these opportunities in the future too.

This is THE Kim So-hyun drama I have been waiting for. Fingers crossed that I will be able to watch it. (Disney+ is a deal breaker).

It’s going to be on Amazon Prime! Confirmed! Maybe it’s just me but I love Amazon Prime over both Netflix and Disney+. They don’t do promotions or anything but the interphase and subtitles are generally better.

Looking forward to this one, it’s got a great cast and if it can be as good as Crash at balancing the action with the fun moments it should be an interesting watch.

Agreed, and its a good take on sports athletes using their skills elsewhere, like to beat up the baddies. Oh Jung-se watch your face! And the rest of your body.

I'm hurt.

I just finished thinking about how I'll watch Oh Jung-se's next piece only to see his picture before clicking [heart skips in delight] and thought in my head: "Its like DB read my mind". Except, now reading the article and realizing it is likely a villainous role[resigned].

so they are emphasizing all the trump fields of korean sports fencing, shooting
feels alsmost like it was quickly put together inspired by the cool Kim Ye Ji and all the interepretations ... all thats missing is for it to be half anime

It’s apparently been in planning for years. Lee Dail said he’s been writing the script for this drama for the last 4 years or something. Bogum was apparently offered this even before he enlisted.

wait! What? they dated some time ago, didn't they? I remember an award show where they were presenting together and she was giving serious hostile vibes and he was like whereever.. be a drama queen...

Having just seen the actual shooting star of SK, I would have liked to see her in the role. Though she looks scary!
International media have already talked about her "main character energy". And indeed, she has.
