Kim Dong-wook becomes the new leader of the Seoul Busters

It’s morphin’ time over at Disney+’s action-comedy Seoul Busters with its ragtag team of outcasted officers lead by red ranger Kim Dong-wook (Delightfully Deceitful), aka Dongbang Yoo-bin. An elite amongst the elite, Yoo-bin graduated at the top of his class, trained with the FBI, and collected every award he can, only to return to the field much to his superior’s dismay. He literally scolds Yoo-bin for turning his world upside down, but our blunt officer points out that he was already hanging that way. Cue the gags!

In contrast to the decorated Yoo-bin, the rest of his new team is filled with troublemakers including bulldozer Park Ji-hwan (Gyeongseong Creature), make-ends-meet Seo Hyun-woo (Celebrity), hot-tempered Park Se-wan (Doona), and newbie Lee Seung-woo (Vigilante). They are first in the country for arrest rates — from the bottom, that is — and as a reward for their “achievements,” their superior exiles them to a rundown preschool as their temporary base.

Their lack of results isn’t surprising once you see them in action since maknae Jang Tan-shik (Lee Seung-woo) trips while chasing after a suspect, and Jung Jung-hwan (Seo Hyun-woo) rides a bike without a seat, which goes as well as you’d imagine. Yoo-bin deems them mentally hasty, physically slow, and loose lipped. Though his assessment riles up Mu Joong-ryuk (Park Ji-hwan), there isn’t much you can say back to your new boss, especially when it’s the truth.

Under Yoo-bin’s leadership, the team tackles a murder case which leads to all sorts of antics including an undercover infiltration. For this group of oddballs, though, the plan is less “cool spy” and more “homely vagabond” even if Seo Min-seo (Park Se-wan) claims Joong-ryuk is absolutely rocking his locks. Despite his team’s apparent ineptitude, Yoo-bin finds them charming, and with these four, he plans to catch their target no matter what.

Directed by PDs Ahn Jong-yeon (Racket Boys) and Shin Joong-hoon with scripts penned by sitcom writers Lee Young-chul and Lee Kwang-jae of Potato Star 2013QR3 and Smashing on Your Back, Disney+’s Seoul Busters is slated for twelve episodes and premieres September 11 with the first four episodes dropping at once.
