Detective Kim Jae-young meets the Judge from Hell, Park Shin-hye

Kicking off their promo campaign with the first script reading stills, SBS introduces us to The Judge from Hell with Park Shin-hye (Doctor Slump) and Kim Jae-young (Love in Contract) leading the action-fantasy’s cast.

As our titular character Kang Bit-na, Park Shin-hye is a devil who wears the judge’s robes, concealing her cold-hearted identity behind a human mask. Sent up from the underworld, her appointed task is to sniff out murderers with no remorse and send them down to rot in their new abode in hell.

In contrast, Lee Jae-young plays the gentle but passionate detective Han Da-ohn, who puts his sharp observation skills to good use while working in his violent crimes unit. But as our valiant drama hero, he’ll be struggling from his own past traumas and inner demons (figuratively… as far as we know).

Building out the actual supernatural world, our devil judge gains help from two underlings as well, starting with Kim Ah-young (Miss Night and Day) playing Lee Ah-rong. Although she was once responsible for managing the criminals trapped in hell, Ah-rong was demoted to the mortal realm after one escaped while under her watch. We also have Kim In-kwon (Parasyte: The Grey) in the role of police officer Gu Man-do, assisting Bit-na with experienced expertise.

The large supporting cast also includes Kim Young-ok (The Pork Cutlets) and Kim Hong-pa (The Whirlwind), in addition to Lee Kyu-han (Longing for You), Kim Jae-hwa (Cleaning Up), Kim Kwang-kyu (Bad Memory Eraser), and Lee Mi-do (The Secret Romantic Guesthouse) among other talents.

With production helmed by filmmaker Park Jin-pyo (Brave Citizen, Love Forecast) and scripts by Jo Yi-soo, SBS’s The Judge from Hell is set to premiere this September, following Good Partner in the weekend slot.

I see you Cat Man, and I have my eye on you in this fantasy drama. Try changing the rules of the world just once and that devil judge will be the least of your worries! 😈

Well, guess I know what to watch when Good Partner finishes. This sounds right up my alley, so definitely giving this one a shot.

I like both of them. Even though the plot doesn't grab my attention, I should give it a try for PSH and KJY 🙂

The scripts were really quirky. Hope that comes across in the actual episodes.

I really like Kim Jae Young and have wondered why he hasn't had many lead roles. Although this story doesn't particularly appeal to me, I'm going to give it a try because he's in it 😊

Oh I like the plot, and I wish it to be a good crime show like Lucifer...but I have so many reservations.

I do hope it's better than My Demon, cos I dropped that one when it started plumbing the depths of mediocre story/ acting hell.

Also the FL. I had never watched Park Shin Hye in anything before Dr. Slump, and I can't say she impressed me all that much. I don't know if she has the chops to play someone "evil"- She seems very...goody... I don't know.
I loved Park So Dam in Death's Game- she played her character so well, and I'll be hard pressed to not compare.

Having translated the scripts for the first few episodes of this, the main character isnt evil per se. More like a fish out of water having come up to earth from from hell. There were some dark scenes as well (think Behind Your Touc). The scripts were quite funny, and I'll be interested to see how they come across as actual episodes.

And also, Kim Young Ok... Like, how much energy does this 87 year old superstar have?! I wish for that zest for life if I reach her age! I love her, so another reason for me to watch.

A show directed by the director of Brave Citizen will probably be spellbinding no matter the story.
