Kim Young-dae helps Shin Mina avoid No Gain No Love

tvN has come out with a new teaser for No Gain No Loss, giving us a teeny insight into our rom-com’s setup, with our resourceful Shin Mina (Our Blues) hoping for a 3-day husband in Kim Young-dae (Moon in the Day).

The teaser begins from the viewpoint of our part-timer hero Kim Ji-wook (Kim Young-dae) when he notices Sohn Hae-young’s (Shin Mina) advert on our story’s Pumpkin Market – a fun spoof on the popular Carrot Market in South Korea. But Hae-young isn’t looking for a fairytale carriage or prince. Rather, she wants a temporary bridegroom for just three days and is offering a non-negotiable payment of 200,000 won – a check point for Ji-wook.

As Ji-wook scans through Hae-young’s post in the sequence, he notes that everything will be prepared on her end and the accepted candidate will only need to follow the script. The included filming schedule is hilariously efficient, packing in the proposal, dress try-on reaction, and wedding rehearsal all before the ceremony on day three – the ring and tuxedo provided of course. Most importantly, the job will be paid after the final act at Incheon airport on that third day.

Under the terms, Hae-young also expresses a preference for the jobless, but freelancers can apply. Here, though, Ji-wook pauses to scratch out the highlighted point that candidates who are exceptionally good-looking may not be eligible. An apprehensive Ji-wook thus initiates a chat and asks, “Why are you looking for a groom on here?” The teaser then ends on Hae-young’s bright response, “Because I want no loss.”

Written by Kim Hye-young (Her Private Life) with PD Kim Jung-shik (Work Later, Drink Now) directing, tvN’s No Gain No Loss premieres next month on August 26, following Serendipity’s Embrace in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

Gaah. I'm super excited about this one. And I'll set aside my fears that it could go the way most romcoms have gone for me this year which is...nowhere. For now, hope and good vibes only.

Everyone agrees kim young dae can't act, but shin min ah always plays the same role every time. This looks like her playing as her character in hometown cha cha lmao. She's boring...

Her role in “Our blues” though couldn’t be more different than in HCCC!

Oof, I just realized there's a pretty big age gap between the two leads. Not a huge fan of that.

Why not? Let older women equalise the field a bit. These actors are all so unusually gorgeous and look after themselves so well that their aging is slowed down in comparison to mere mortals. It really shouldn’t matter one way or another.

I don't like age gap romances in general, regardless of what the genders are

Have we actually gotten any confirmation that this is a Korean remake of the C-drama, She and Her Perfect Husband ?? Many of the plot points of this seem familiar to the C-drama 🤔

As for the age gap, it doesn’t bug me, personally, as long as both are consenting, first and foremost, and they can sell it to me in a tasteful manner if their characters are supposed to be similar in age despite the real-life age gap. We’ve gotten bigger or similar age gaps going both ways before—“both ways”, meaning much older males (Lee Joon Gi & Lee Ji Eun [IU]) AND older females (Kim Hye Soo &=Joo Ji Hoon) in Dramaland before

I think age gap is possibly more visual than anything else. If two actors have an age gap but look similar in age, it does not bother me. For example, Han Ji Min and Park Hyung Sik in Two Lights Relumino - you can't tell that they are a decade apart. It's when one of them look like they are old enough to be a parent is when it becomes uncomfortable. It was one of the things that made me a bit uncomfortable in both Mr Sunshine and Goblin - the FL looks too young for both the men.

That’s true, looking the part does have an impact.
Uee and Lee Seo Jin have a 17 year age gap, but they totally captured my heart in their 2016 drama, Marriage Contract — which is still one of my ultimate favourite Kdramas— and they also visually looked the part and matched (his drama character is 8 years older than her character compared to their real life age gap)

It is definitely better when the story demands it. For example, if the story is indeed about an older man falling for a younger woman and vice versa, I know what I am getting into. If they made a story about Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra, it would totally make sense.

I saw a lot of criticism for this one regarding the age gap. I don't mind the age gap as long as they're adults and look the part. In this one it really feels okay. But in Goblin I couldn't and dropped it, the age gap was so visible ,he actually looked like her father.

I dropped Goblin for a few reasons, but yes, her character being written as a high schooler—and her looking the part— was one of the reasons

Yeah that made it worse 🙃. I also drop dramas where ML meets FL when she's a child, even if they date only when she becomes adult it still feels weird to me😬

Isn’t it risky that she made a public announcement when she is trying to pull of a deception but I guess if it’s done under a different name and she assumes no one she plans to deceive is likely to see the ad….
Despite this I am looking forward to this one if it stays light.

And ... because "husband for hire" trope always works well. Hmm, just hope they keep it light and fun. 😊
