[K-drama Treasure Hunt] KAHI multi balm

Welcome to the K-drama treasure hunt, where we all go looking for K-drama treasure in the form of tiny drama details that we know and love. Sometimes these details take the shape of well-worn tropes (oppa Band-Aiding) or storytelling devices (Top Secret Deadly Allergy), but other times it’s just details we know we’ve seen in other dramas, but need help putting all the clues together.

Each week we’ll put you on the hunt for a piece of K-drama treasure, and you can report your findings in the comments.

There’s no umpire in this game, so if you find the detail we’re looking for, drop the drama title (or even better, drama title + episode number) in the comments, and we’ll all take your word for it. Or, we’ll go binge watch just to see it play out.

And remember, we’re here to map our way to the treasures not to the plot twists! We know how exciting it can be to have all the hard-earned details stashed in your head, but let’s try to keep the spoilers out of the comments.

This week’s treasure:

Characters taking a quick PPL break to apply their KAHI multi balm.

Your mission:

We’re taking a Treasure Hunt detour this week and tuning into the PPL department to a big drama favorite in recent times: the pink tube of balm that makes your skin glow like Kim Go-eun’s. List any and all PPL interludes where the KAHI multi balm made a cameo appearance. (Bonus points for any dialogue about the product!)

I remember scenes in…

* BUSINESS PROPOSAL, where FL’s younger colleague applies it because “she is feeling especially dry today”, before going to meet her crush (== FL’s former crush) in the company canteen.
* EXTRAORDINARY ATTORNEY WOO, too long ago that I watched this, but her sunshiney colleague used it at one point.

There must be more… but which dramas… 🤔

Ps: The KAHI stick indeed makes your face sticky, so I guess they deliver on the promise?

In EAW, her best friend used it too, I think.

I don't have to think too much: Racket Boys, which I'm watching these days (and about to finish it).
This show seems to be conscious that PPL is annoying and PD tried to make it funny. The one who was applying the pink balm was the ML (among the adults), the coach who is the teen ML's father.

Not a lot of Kdramas can beat The King: Eternal Monarch's PPL.

This is at the tip of my tongue...but I can't remember the show! It was an office setting, I think, and they passed the stick around...but then again there have been plenty a scene with the KAHI stick.

It’s haunting! I also remember one especially hilarious scene, at least I’m convinced I saw it: one person applying it while on a stakeout, perching in a hiding place 😂 I mean… why not?!
But I cannot for the life of me remember the show either… 🤔

😂 You want to have moisturised skin (is that what it does? 🙈) before confronting the villains, right?

It makes me think of a funny scene in the fiery priest where one of the leads carries a stove and noodles on a stakeout 😂

In Taxi Driver 1, Esom’s character used KAHI balm throughout the show. She took it out to apply it to her face and neck at very random moments.

and she delivers the speech with the same words than the girl in Dali and the cocky prince. I saw these two dramas quite close in time, and it made me laugh to have this blabla about how the stick erase the tiredness.

KAHI multibalm—the duct tape for skin.

But then there’s actual body tape— the tape people use for quick fixes on wardrobe malfunctions, to keep cleavage intact on low-cut dresses, to keep jewelry (like necklaces) from swinging around and potentially being a choking hazard or hindrance to movement, etc. XD

I remember seeing this a lot the previous year but not so much on the more recent dramas that I am watching. This kahi stick became so common that I tune out when I see a female character using it. So no, I am unable to give an example rn.

I rarely notice or mind ppl, but the exaggerated crinkle sound of Kopiko is really cringey, and grating.

Forced ppl and unnecessary mention about it in a drama setting is very cringey for me. So i agree that kopiko ppl can be cringey.

Actually people didn't really like it.

I think Kim Go-eun is a brand ambassador bc she smears it on in every show she's in! In Yumi's Cells she also uses face masks by the same brand, if I am not mistaken.
