Jung Hae-in and Jung So-min are friends in Love Next Door

From schoolyard playmates to neighborhood drinking buddies, the adorable leads of tvN’s Love Next Door are just friends… or so the story goes. Starring Jung Hae-in (D.P. 2) as “mom’s friend’s son” Choi Seung-hyo and Jung So-min (Alchemy of Souls) as “mom’s friend’s daughter” Bae Seok-ryu, this upcoming rom-com asks what happens when the lines in a relationship start to blur.

The teaser opens to its high school leads, and Seok-ryu gawks at Seung-hyo’s growth spurt. She wonders when he suddenly outgrew her, and the scene changes to adult Seung-hyo replying, “Do you still think I’m a small kid? I’m already thirty-four.”

Despite maturing physically and looking quite dashing, both these childhood friends are still their silly selves around each other as they pull on collars, splash water, and dodge attacks. Seok-ryu explains their relationship as happenstance, and after all these years, they still somehow ended up hanging out like they did in the past.

New face Yoon Ji-on (My Lovely Liar) comments on how nice it is to have friends living in the same area and says that he was always jealous of people with neighborhood friends. His dreams seem to come true when he joins the group which includes Kim Ji-eun (Branding in Seongsu) as part of the original trio, and show teases the possibility of an eventful neighborhood romance.

While Seok-ryu closes the gap between her and Seung-hyo, asking him to stay close and pulling him into hugs, Seung-hyo redraws the line by pushing her away and telling her that she’s acting scary. However, when Seok-ryu falls, Seung-hyo doesn’t hesitate to catch her, and she tells him that he’s kind of cool. Of course, it’s still too early for romance to bloom, and Seung-hyo orders her to not harbor any ulterior motives towards him or else she’ll die.

Directed by PD Yoo Je-won (Crash Course in Romance) who is reuniting with writer Shin Ha-eun (Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha), tvN’s Love Next Door premieres on August 17 in the Saturday-Sunday slot.

😂 This sounds (and looks) like it could be the trope fest to end all trope fests*! I’ll get the bingo cards ready. Can’t wait! 👏🫰👏

* Will happily skip serial murders, ToDs, & love triangles though, thank you very much.

I've been disappointed in so many other frienimies to lover rom-coms this year, so I hope they land this one - especially since my favorite kdrama actress is starring.

Just announced it will be on Netflix so after several month hiatus, I'll be getting up early every Saturday and Sunday to watch.

I will keep this on my list and wait for reviews before I decide. It still looks cute.

🙏🏾 I know, I am quietly confident that 2024 is the year that pure rom com dramas returned to our screens. Couples who talk will be the defining feature.

Oh no, Yoon Ji-on is still in his ill-fitting-collar era. But this looks super-fun and I'm excited about the cast (except maybe the Queen of Bland, Kim Ji-eun). I'll take all the tropes if they're delivered with gusto.

Jung Hae-In's smile will be the death of me, I swear.

(Well, the #2 "Will Be The Death Of 9TailedVixen" Smile right after Jang Dong-Yoon's smile).

Anyway, looking forward to this!
