Byun Yo-han tries to remember the truth in Black Out
by lovepark
MBC has released its first teaser for mystery thriller Black Out. Based off the German novel Snow White Must Die, this adaptation stars Byun Yo-han (Uncle Samsik) as ex-convict Go Jung-woo who went behind bars for killing two classmates. However, there’s a catch: he doesn’t remember any of it.
The teaser opens with a reenactment of the crime scene as high school Jung-woo goes through the motions in front of the press. Someone asks if he really killed them, and the various scenes of Jung-woo screaming and pushing people suggest that the verdict may be right.
In prison, Jung-woo wonders if he really did commit the heinous crime, but his doubts turn to certainty as he strangles a fellow inmate in a fight. When push comes to shove, Jung-woo seems capable of violence, and in a world where even his parents do not believe him, how can he be sure of his own innocence.
The story begins in earnest eleven years after the students’ deaths when Detective Noh Sang-cheol played by Go Joon (Cheat on Me If You Can) arrives in town to reinvestigate the case. He realizes that something is off and a series of strange events occur, linking back to the secrets of the previous murders.
The teaser then cuts to different figures: actress Go Bo-kyul (The Heavenly Idol), student Kim Bora (Like Flowers in Sand), assemblywoman Bae Jong-ok (Dare to Love Me), and police officer Kwon Hae-hyo (Bittersweet Hell). Their connection to the mystery remains unclear, and in order to uncover the truth, Jung-woo’s memories hold the key. He pleads with himself to remember, desperate to learn once and for all who the true culprit is.
Directed by filmmaker Byun Young-joo (Helpless) and written by Seo Joo-yeon (Rescue Me 2), MBC’s Black Out is slated for fourteen episodes and premieres August 16 in the Friday-Saturday slot.

Gotta love the hot people. But on a more serious note, I'm going to love seeing a potentially innocent person get exonerated by a good hearted cop.

Ooh, this seems intriguing! It’s not everyday you get to have a main character who is both one of the investigators and also possibly the culprit. I have faith that Byun Yo-han can make me care about this character even with all his violence. I haven’t really live-watched a thriller since the disastrous schedule of The Killing Vote, but I think I’m ready to be burned again 😬

Oh! This could be good. I like this 14 episode count, reminds me of connection (helped with the pacing). I could use a good thriller after Connection.
Thriller genre and this casting, I am totally IN!
Hope it comes on Viki US.

Good use of amnesia trope!? 🤞
Seems intriguing. Who's to say memory comes rushing back at the most inconvenient time possible. 😂
