Rival Kwon Yul taunts My Sweet Mobster Uhm Tae-gu

A fun new teaser has swung in for JTBC’s upcoming My Sweet Mobster, setting down the framework for our rom-com’s petty love triangle as Han Sun-hwa (Work Later, Drink Now 2) gets caught between Uhm Tae-gu (Hometown) and Kwon Yul (Longing for You).

But first, we begin with a wistful Go Eun-ha (Han Sun-hwa) remembering her lonely childhood, explaining that, “Until I was 7 years old, no one ever played with me. It was then that I met Hyun-woo oppa. I wanted to become that kind of person to other children. I’d like to meet him again at least once.”

In the dreamlike sequence, we’re led to believe that this neighborhood oppa could very well be our prosecutor Jang Hyun-woo (Kwon Yul). His name checks the box, of course, and he even gets his hero moment, shielding Eun-ha from an oncoming puddle splash. But curiously as Eun-ha finishes her voiceover, the music warps as we cut to the once legendary mobster Seo Ji-hwan (Uhm Tae-gu).

Thankfully, our heroine doesn’t need to be scared as Ji-hwan now walks on the right side of the law and strives to do all that is good in the world. But Hyun-woo’s presence does stoke a fiery anger inside Ji-hwan and our boys begin their quibbling battle through the comments section on Eun-ha’s channel.

To be fair, Hyun-woo does take the grown up approach afterwards and asks outright if Ji-hwan likes Eun-ha. Hyun-woo also confesses his feelings to Eun-ha directly, later in the sequence. But oh the woe of a second lead, let the prayer circle commence for Kwon Yul’s next role.

On the other hand, our hero is still maturing in this first journey into love and responds like a jealous child by tugging Eun-ha’s chair closer. Despite Ji-hwan’s clumsy antics, though, it’s his face that Eun-ha turns to as the teaser comes to a close and we end on her admission that, “It was a good memory, made with a good person.”

Co-directed by PD Kim Young-hwan (Today’s Webtoon) and PD Kim Woo-hyun (Life), with Na Kyung penning the scripts, JTBC’s My Sweet Mobster is slated to premiere on June 12 in the Wednesday-Thursday slot.

Not many sleeps to go. I am hoping this is a fun watch that lives up to expectations, jabel. Too many of my recent fun watches fell off a cliff in the second half 😬. We need something light and fluffy in the Wednesday/Thursday slot when Frankly finishes.

Yeah, Can't we get a decent Wed/Thurs drama, please? I think the last one I looked forward to in this slot was If I wish upon you. Extraordinary Attorney Woo also aired on Wed/Thurs.

I guess we have been lucky as it was quiet with no dramas in this slot for a while so any drama was a bonus but still…

So Kwon Yul is second lead again, sigh... but if you keep him funny and dorky... and maybe later introduce another love interest for him, I will forgive you, Show.

💯 I would LOVE that!! 😍 Please please give him a separate loveliness after the initial mandatory bickering with the ML.

Ah! even autocorrect knows how lovely Kwon Yul is. It "corrected" love line to loveliness. 😊

@tccolb Thank you for your hard work in sharing this teaser, writing a lovely* article and beautiful screencaps. I cannot even imagine how long it would have taken you to capture the header pic. It is the perfect choice. 👌

Yes we definitely need a prayer circle for Kwon Yul's next drama but I will be beyond thrilled if this drama takes @Dorotka's suggestion into account.

"Our boys begin their quibbling battle through the comments section on Eun-ha’s channel."

This sounds hilarious!

Honestly, it's been all aegyo so far but as I said before: Please not too much aegyo and please no serial killer storyline.

I would also like to observe that LOVELY RUNNER has set the bar so high for rom-coms this year that I'm interested to se if MY SWEET MOBSTER will be able to match it.

Oh, I am DOWN for the "new trend" of ridiculous, CGI-infused rom-coms--with an emphasis on the "com"!!! Bring on the lobster!

At this rate, Kwon Yul will be rivalling Jung Ryeowon and Lee Kyu-hyung in the number of legal characters he's played.

I usually don't watch an actor or actress leading in multiple dramas at the same time and Kwon Yul's character in Connection is quite different from the one here. Don't think I can see him in a rom-com right now. XD;

Another time, it would be good to see him in his own funny and cute romance instead of being a second lead too.
