Uhm Tae-gu subscribes to Han Sun-hwa in My Sweet Mobster

Continuing its trend of bright and colorful promotions, JTBC has released a short but cute teaser for its upcoming rom-com My Sweet Mobster. The show stars former mob boss Uhm Tae-gu (Hometown) falling head over heels for the bubbly Han Sun-hwa (Work Later, Drink Now 2). Appearances, though, can be deceiving as the scary-looking gangster turns out to be a shy romantic, and the angelic-looking content creator is a chaotic ball of energy.

The teaser opens to a shot of Go Eun-ha (Han Sun-hwa) in all her wondrous glory — wind-swept hair, soft lighting, and a gaze that pierces through the heart. Seo Ji-hwan (Uhm Tae-gu) is absolutely smitten as he blushes in his hospital gown, but our innocent protagonist is caught off guard by Eun-ha’s direct approach. He actually faints at her seduction attempts, and the show describes her as the woman who plays better than anyone else (a direct reference to the Korean title of the show).

As a children’s content creator known as Minnie Unni, Eun-ha spends her time covered in flour, performing magic tricks, and dressing up as a butterfly. She hasn’t made it big yet — only getting 27 views on her latest video — but that doesn’t stop Eun-ha from screaming “Minnie Power!!!” and blasting a ray at her squid enemy.

To Eun-ha’s surprise, the ex-mobster she runs into is a subscriber, and it seems tons of hijinks are in store for this couple as they wake up in the same, cramped hospital bed. The show promises a heart fluttering romance, and from the way Eun-ha bursts into Ji-hwan’s life, it feels like our heroine will be causing quite a stir. The teaser then ends with Eun-ha blowing bubbles and confetti into the camera while Ji-hwan wonders who she exactly is.

Directed by PDs Kim Young-hwan (Today’s Webtoon) and Kim Woo-hyun (Ode to Our Youth) with scripts by Na Kyung, JTBC’s My Sweet Mobster premieres June 12 in the Wednesday-Thursday slot and is slated for sixteen episodes.

Is so strange to see Uhm Tae-goo in a role like this, he's always had the talent and the looks to be a romantic lead but seemed to actively avoid it in favour of darker and more "serious" projects, i am glad he is finally selling out.

This looks cute and funny, i hope it delivers

This is exactly why I'm watching this series.

How many times do you get to see Uhm Tae-gu in a relaxed role? You don't 🤣. Even here, he's an ex-mobster :)

This looks very cute and the promos have been focusing on light, happy, adorable things, but I hope everyone isn't disappointed when our ex-mobster's past comes back to stir things up in a big (darker) way. With 16 episodes to fill it must, right?

Yes, it must. The end goal is surely for them each to have more balance within themselves, not just balancing out their relationship like a teeter totter. Does that makes sense? I think I need more coffee. I just hope there isn't a serial killer.

Makes sense to me! They'll both need to make peace with their pasts, whatever that entails. I'll actually be disappointed if it doesn't go into his past in favor of glossing it over. The promos make me think of Sweet Stranger and Me/The Man Living in Our House (with Kim Young-kwang), but fluffier.

I don’t know whether or not the following is accurate but I found this:” Upcoming Drama 2023] My Sweet Mobster/The Woman Who Plays, 놀아주는 여자- Uhm Tae Goo, Han Sun Hwa & Kwon Yul-Wed&Thu @20:50 KST-Premieres on June 12”. If accurate, I wonder why the release was postponed?

The jury is out on whether this will be another low stress fully loaded fun watch or if there will be some darker elements due to the prosecutor who can’t let go. Maybe the mobster past will provide some flashback scenes for a couple of episodes. I hope they keep it short.

I've been excited for this since day 1 (i also prefer the old title for some reason) and the teasers aren't helping ^-^ can we just have the drama now?

also, ik there's a mobster and prosecutor involved, but no gritty crime stuff pls 🥺👉👈

Han Sun-hwa is HILARIOUS and this is an inspired pairing that I never would have thought of. I can't believe I have to wait a month for it still. Bring on the silliness!
