Suzy has All the Love You Wish For with genie Kim Woo-bin

Netflix announced that production for All the Love You Wish For (previously All Shall Come True) is well underway, releasing stills from the drama’s first script reading with our opposites-attract main pair: Kim Woo-bin (Black Knight) and Suzy (Doona). It’s been almost eight years since the actors previously starred in a melodrama that I refuse to mention and I beseech the drama gods to deliver only fluffy rainbows with this new fantasy rom-com.

Our hero is the ~magical~ genie played by Kim Woo-bin, who has been sadly hidden and trapped inside his lamp for what must be more than a thousand years. Understandably, our slumbering beauty is an exploding ball of emotions once he’s finally awoken and greets his now-master in present-day South Korea.

Enter Suzy in the role of Ga-young who – in contrast to Genie – is described as a jaded and emotionless character. Although discovering the lamp is a stroke of much needed fortune for our heroine, it’s also a curse for Genie as he’s bound by the rules of his lore to grant three wishes to his current master. I expect we’ll be getting some hanky-panky development as well once Cupid’s arrows start flying in both directions.

Rounding out our story’s world with an ensemble cast, the series also stars Ahn Eun-jin (Goodbye Earth) as Ga-young’s puzzling roommate Mi-joo, who seems to be hiding her real identity. On Genie’s side, Noh Sang-hyun (Soundtrack #2) plays his rival and brother Soo-hyun, a building owner and man of suspicious wealth.

Thankfully, though, our OTP do have people they can trust with Go Kyu-pil (Frankly Speaking) playing Genie’s confidante Sade – whose true form is a jaguar – and Lee Joo-young (The 8 Show) in the part of Ga-young’s only friend and bestie Min-ji.

Production for the series has an intriguing duo leading the team with hit writer Kim Eun-sook (The Glory, Mr. Sunshine) penning the scripts and PD Lee Byung-heon (Chicken Nugget, Be Melodramatic) as the talent behind the camera.

Suzy ... a jaded and emotionless character

LOLOLOLOL. Well, it sounds like they're casting to the actors' strengths, anyway, and people can surprise you so I won't write it off just for this. The cast overall looks fantastic, but - Ahn Eun-jin NOT in a lead role? Nor Noh Sang-hyun? 😥 The writer and PD are a head-scratching combo, too. I'm curious enough to keep an eye on it for now.

Kim Woobin would likely be great as the genie as he has a chaotic and fun side in his acting toolbox and given how genies have been depicted, would likely do justice to a Korean genie.

Most likely AEJ and NSH were drawn by the famous writer and director combo.

I am interested to see how things play out with a modern take on an old tale. I wonder if it’s a world that knows about the children’s story?

This sure is an… interesting writer/director pairing lol. Can’t say I’d think of putting them together.

I never was a fan of Uncontrollably Fond and this pairing, so it wasn't really a couple that I wished to see again...

I'm happy to see Noh Sang-Hyun but I would have prefered in his drama and a better one than Soundtrack 2.

And for the role of the genie, I think it will be hard to take the place of Idris Elba in my heart :p

I've never seen Uncontrollably Fond (and I have no interest to) but I always find it cool and interesting when actors, particularly lead actors reunite in kdramas (especially since apparently it's rare for it to happen).

I think it's cool seeing the different dynamics or actor's growth over time. Sometimes the comfort of the past working relationship or real life friendships translates to the screen and again, that's cool to me

Isn't it rare for kdramaland to cast the same main leads? Interesting...

@tccolb: I love bits of that drama that must not be named and hate most of it with a passion. I think I’m still mildly traumatised from it. One good aspect was to see what a big acting range Kim Woobin has even in the dire dramatic circumstances.

It was hard to watch for me and I dropped it pretty early. I was also disappointed because I have watched - and liked - several of the writer's other works.

Kim Eun-sook has given me hours of great entertainment. So her magic touch along with one my favourite fairy tales, is 'Genie-ous' lol. I don't care who the leads are, I'm sat for this one!

Fairytales are my catnip. Can't say I'm uncontrollably fond of this idea but story sounds good, secondary leads should be leads in a drama, PD writer nim seems interesting. So what's the word on the street these says - ah! cautiously optimistic. 🫰
