QoT is 100% guaranteed to become tvN’s highest rated drama ever. Like EP8 was literally the most perfect way to end the first half.

Seconding this. A part of what happened was already predicted though it happened earlier than expected, but the ending scene was something both surprising and delightful.

I thought “Doctor Cha” will beat “Crash Landing” but it didn’t. It’s 8th episode rating was 16.18% so it’s interesting to see if QoT will do it with it’s all star cast, writer etc.

Doctor Cha’s ending was a bit more mellow. But for QoT’s case, the plot still has more than enough steam to crack at least 22%.

After the midpoint, it got wishy-washy, but it was still an impressive rating feat, especially since the writer was new.
I'll take your words for "QoT" since I haven't watched it yet.

Apart from Hae-in's secret, QoT's villains alone will definitely keep everyone locked in.

I am delightfully surprised in how the plot moved along quickly. The ep8 ending was definitely perfect. It just made me look forward to what will happen next week.

unless the plot comes to a grinding halt in the second half, QoT is guaranteed to crack past 20 percent before the finale.

Equalling the World of the Married (or, in PJE's filmography, You From Another Star) would probably be a major reach but one thing is for sure, it's already a smash hit and is going into legendary status. If tvN wanted a worthy successor to Crash Landing on You, they've got it.

Good to see you back @pogo1!

The Top 5 Cable Dramas:
1. The World of the Married, 2020 (JTBC) - 28.37%
2. Reborn Rich, 2022 (JTBC) - 26.94%
3. Sky Castle, 2029 (JTBC) - 23.77%
4. Crash Landing on You, 2020 (TVN) - 21.68%
5. Reply 1988, 2026 (TVN) - 18.80%

At this point, it's on par with "Doctor Cha's" 8th episode but still behind "Reborn Rich" and "World of the Married." It's only going against 2 other dramas on Sunday, so its final episode is definitely going to be huge.

@kiara it's nice to see you too!

It might not reach TWOTM/Reborn Rich numbers but it's still going to make that 20 percent mark, which is really rare for cable. Incredible success either way.

If I were the tvN execs, I'd pray for it to end up at least at #2 because even though they have more double-digit hits overall, JTBC has a knack for getting those once in a while mega hits. Them having the entire top 3 is still insane.

1

Correction. Reply 1988, 2016, and Sky Castle 2019.

Having another drama in the 20% range would be great.

yeah, Crash Landing on You is tvN's only 20-percenter till date and it's from four years ago. It'll be cool to see it have company!

Make it TvN's drama with the eight highest rating (for the Saturday-Sunday slot). It is higher than Vincenzo and Our Blues.

It can surely beat the below TvN dramas:
1. Under the Queen's umbrella (16.8%)
2. Crash course in romance (17%)
3. Mr. Queen (17.3%)
4. Mr. Sunshine (18.1%)
5. Goblin ( 18.6%)
6. Reply 1988 (18.8%)

It would be interesting to note if it can near CLOY ratings and continue to climb and beat the highest ever cable rating that is being currently occupied by "The World of the Married".

Queen of Tears ratings are insane. It’s already #8 in tvN’s highest rated drama while all others in the top 10 achieved theirs during the last episode.

WI’s further drop is sad. But there just isn’t much buzz for it.

WW is the one I’m surprised about. The drama is dry and nothing ever happens I feel. KNJ is fantastic (as usual) and CEW isn’t as painful to watch, but I dropped it because it’s seriously boring.

The only benefit of WW is introducing me to Kim Nam Joo. I might not have watched WW, but I am currently enjoying Misty.

Watching JTBC’s MISTY (2018) (Netflix US) you get to meet the (in)famous Kevin Lee (Go Jun).

Coming attractions. MDL reports that Byun Yo-han and Go Jun will be appearing (at some point) in the cops/crime/mystery drama BLACK OUT.
Kim Bo-ra (recently in ENA’s LIKE FLOWERS IN SAND) is also in the cast. Unclear where and when it will air but it is soon having its world premier at the 7th Cannes International Series Festival.
I love the casting of Byun Yo-han and Go Yun together in a crime drama.

She’s amazing. I saw her first in You Who Rolled in Unexpectedly - watched it after loving YFAS and wanting to see other works of PJE. She was brilliant in Misty as well - it got her the Baeksang that year if I remember correctly.

Glad to see you are watching Queen of Tears. I'm loving every single minute of it - only a few tiny plot inconsistencies that noone except someone like me (who fills up notebooks) would catch.

But one of the highlights is that the corporate discussions and takeover schemes make sense - such a refreshing change from LYOL.

I don't have anything to say about "QoT" that hasn't been said already, but I will reiterate: it's not for everyone, but I love it so much. Because it's in the hands of such a capable writer, and brought to life by such a strong cast, the combination of romance, humor, angst, and family dysfunction screams "Classic Kdrama" to me. I'm glad so many others agree. Watching this show is a true, rare pleasure.

QoT feels like it was made by someone that really loves kdramas.
It brings back all the old tropes but with so much care and heart.
Imo, it's a really thoughtful show.

This show gives me nostalgia. Like you said, it reminds me of all those "classic" kdramas.

I like "Hide," but feel like that last episode or two got a little makjang-y for my tastes. But that might also explain why the ratings went up.

SBS’s WHISPER (2017) (Viki US) was my last Lee Bo-young drama and to me her performance in HIDE is like she just walked off the set of WHISPER and started this drama. She is amazing. Now in WHISPER there was at least one occasion where she had to kick butt. Her physicality/fighting was excellent. That may be an area where now she says ‘no thanks!’ lol.

(A bit of context. SBS’s WHISPER (average rating of 15.58%) immediately followed husband Ji Sung’s hit SBS drama DEFENDANT (2017) (Viki US) (average rating of 21.69%).
The ratings were so good that 2 episodes were added to DEFENDANT. (There was also talk that WHISPER need more prep time, whatever.)

On ratings note both DEFENDANT and WHISPER aired on Mondays and Tuesdays at 10pm. There was a day when M/T dramas drew great ratings.

I read an article over the weekend that stated that the three major public networks continue to make weekenders because their channels' main demographic is 40 to 70 year olds. In contrast, streaming/OTT platforms main demographic is 10 to 30 year olds who do not watch regular TV programs.

That reminds me of when some report came that the main demographic watching The CW as like 40/50 and up haha

Meanwhile the network was airing shows like The Vampire Diaries, Riverdale, The Flash, and Supernatural. What was funnier (to me) is my mother WAS actually that network more than I was and she was in her 60s (vs me in my 30s)

I don't watch Queen of Tears but I just saw the clip of Song Joong Ki's cameo and I am tickled to pieces haha

I'm a goner for easter eggs and references to past works (if I can catch them. The last time I saw something like that was in Unlock the Boss) and ah, I just loved that haha

"There's rumors about him... he's the youngest son of a conglomerate, he's a former soldier stationed abroad, he came on a spaceship, he's a werewolf. His name is... Vincenzo" lol hahah
Ah! I am so giddy over stuff like that haha

(Sidenote: to watch space troopers or whatever it's called or not? That is the question haha. Same with A Werewolf Boy but I think that has a sad/bittersweet/lonely ending so probably not )

I enjoyed Space Sweepers - regular fare, but engaging ideas and had heart at moments. SJK character's relationship with his daughter was moving. Not too long, for when you've got nothing better or when you're ill?

Absolutely love QOT. If they let her die I will never, ever, forever watch another Kdrama. The villains are so perfectly frightful, the respective relations are so convincing, I have completely suspended all critical faculties. Do not point out to me any inconsistencies, any plot holes, any unrealistic situations - I’m absolutely convinced by every detail. I’m so glad we are only half way through and I wish I was self-disciplined enough to watch only one episode a week……..to make it last longer…….but I’m not! Can’t wait to see how the chaebol family integrates into the village! One thing I have learned from Kdrama, the visitors will by wiser and happier from the experience. Only 5 more days😀😀😉🇰🇪
