Suho announces his return as the Missing Crown Prince

After a brief pause, the promo gears for MBN’s Missing Crown Prince are now well oiled for the sageuk’s new April premiere, cranking out fresh stills in addition to the third teaser, where we re-meet our titular hero Suho (Behind Your Touch).

Alas, the supposed rom-com’s trailer greets us with conspiracy and danger in tow, showcasing a fictional Joseon where crown prince Lee Geon (Suho) fears that a target board is strapped to his head. Elsewhere, both king Jeon Jin-oh (Vigilante) and royal physician Kim Joo-hun (Castaway Diva) are attacked, while a sinister voice threatens in voiceover, “Bear this in mind, if you want to save the people you cherish.”

An angry Geon shouts, “Do you think their conniving will be forgiven after all this!?” But our hero’s hands are literally tied and he’s publicly paraded as a deposed prince, carted off for torture and interrogation. Unaware of the greater plan, queen dowager Myung Se-bin (Doctor Cha) pleads, “Didn’t you say that you would at least spare his life?” However, Geon is volun-told to take the fall by the same merciless voice: “Please die for everyone’s sake.”

In the appearing text screen, we then learn that Geon’s younger half-brother Minkyu (Maestra – Strings of Truth) is also a pawn in this story’s twisted destiny. Having fallen for Hong Ye-ji (Love Song for Illusion), her dad (Kim Joo-hun) offers her hand – but only if Prince Dosung (Minkyu) becomes the crown prince. But because that’s not enough ~drama~, Prince Dosung is pushed to protect the life of his mom and current queen Yoo Se-rye (Rookie Historian Gu Hae-ryung) as well.

On her part, Choi Myung-yoon (Hong Ye-ji) understands the burden of blame, believing that her cursed fate causes innocent people to die. Lee Geon then turns the misery arrow back onto himself, concluding, “This is the result of trusting people I never dreamed of suspecting. All this time, until now, the way they treated me was all pretense and lies.” Driving the final nail in the coffin, Prince Dosung and Lee Geon both decide that they are now officially enemies.

As we come to a close, the captions reveal Geon’s fiery resolve for revenge, leading a conspirator to panic that they could all be killed if Geon returns. Cue the court lady’s announcement that the crown prince has entered the palace. We then end the teaser as Geon dons his royal attire once again and reclaims his rightful position, stating, “I am this nation’s crown prince of Joseon.”

Helmed by PD Kim Jin-man (Rebel – Thief Who Stole the People) with co-writing by Bossam – Steal the Fate’s Kim Ji-soo and Park Chul, MBN’s Missing Crown Prince premieres on April 13 in the weekend slot.

I wanted this to be a light watch. All this *palace drama* makes me worry if this will be worth it.

There is. I am not sure if the young cast has the range to satisfactorily portray what is needed.

I have to reluctantly agree. The earlier lighter rom-com vibe was still okay. Now with this leaning into the serious business is really making us question the cast's acting credentials. True blue sageuks require not just excellent actors but also ones with gravitas. Here firstly we don't knownif it is a sageuk sageuk or a fusion sageuk. Even the fusion ones require certain level of acting chops and as rightly pointed out by you the younger ones don't seem to evoke that kind of confidence. So basically it's just a - let's see what happens kind of situation. 🤷‍♀️

💯 I totally agree with you. Sageuks need a higher level of acting than just adequate. 😊

Reading name Suho as a lead playing a tortured crown prince gives me worry already.

So they took an extra month or so to make this a better product, but they didn't reduce the number of episodes (currently at 20) and they didn't remove the confusion over the marketing. Is this a rom-com (original teasers and latest character posters) or do they now want this to be a serious drama? I think they should have stuck with the former given the cast, but we shall see. Still almost 4 weeks until release.

Our Blooming Youth had dreamy pastel posters and a lighthearted vibe to some of its promos, too, and then it got all murdery and went too light on the romance - and never quite figured out what it wanted to be. I'm getting the same split personality impression from this one.

OBY marketing team and the editor should never be hired by any team.

I didn’t watch the trailer but this synopsis is enough to move MISSING CROWN PRINCE from might watch to probably won’t watch. I thought MCP might be my next sageuk after the terrific KNIGHT FLOWER.

I just wanted a nice saeguk romcom with Hong Ye-ji. Is that too much to ask?

I will be missing from this watch even though it's my favourite genre. Even in stills Suho has about 1-1/2 expressions on his pretty face. I shudder to think I would need to look at that for 20 hours of my precious life...nopes.

hehehehe! I do not disagree, strengthened by JJS in Captivating the king.

Now these guys know how to prince and king with style.

But it's more because of what I saw of Suho in the butt show. I loved him so much in the beginning, and eventually realised he was literally a walking botox advertisment (perhaps with or without botox). I do like him better than another unnamed pretty face though, but not for a Saguek. A notch above a theater play, these historicals need real actors for me to invest my emotions and time.

I 💯 agree. My parents loved him in Rich Man but I don't have a single drama to recommend to them after that. 🤷‍♀️

You should say to your parents to watch the original one, the Jdrama was great.

It was the opposite for me in Behind Your Touch - I disliked him initially then it was little better but the end just made me angry. 😡

I do not know why they did what they did to his character. It was completely unnecessary.
