Yearning for a Wonderful World with Kim Nam-joo
by solstices
The first teaser for MBC’s upcoming mystery drama Wonderful World is out, delving into the throes of grief and the lingering aftermath of loss. Before our characters can embark on a journey of healing, they must first nurse the wounds of anguish and contend with the bone-deep thirst for vengeance.
The teaser opens with glimpses of a loving embrace, a house ablaze, and Kim Nam-joo (Misty) crying on a snowy night as her tears morph into hysterical laughter. “Everything began with that night’s incident,” she narrates. She’s the psychology professor and bestselling author Eun Soo-hyun, and she carries a bouquet of white flowers to her son’s grave.
Soo-hyun isn’t the only one in mourning. Interspersed with her agony are scenes of the med school dropout Kwon Seon-yul, played by Cha Eun-woo (A Good Day to be a Dog). Having spiraled downhill ever since tragically losing his parents, Seon-yul’s life is now characterized by boxing, metalworking, and volatile turbulence. “Does it seem like I’m living well?” Seon-yul asks, blood staining his lip.
The answer to that question is self-evident for both our leads, but they aren’t the only ones. Soo-hyun’s husband Kang Soo-ho — played by Kim Kang-woo (Artificial City) — has demons of his own, having lost his former career glory after blowing the whistle on a corrupt politician’s misdeeds. Worse yet, he winds up making an impulsive mistake that further adds to his turmoil. (Please tell me we don’t have yet another cheating husband on our hands.)
Amidst the anguish, Park Hyuk-kwon (A Time Called You) maintains his composed demeanor at a funeral hall, though his impassivity takes on a somewhat ominous undertone when contrasted against the visceral despair of our central trio. He’ll be joining Yang Hye-ji (Sweet Home 2), Cha Soo-yeon (Love Scene Number), and rookie actor Im Ji-sub (The Eighth Sense) in the supporting cast, and they’ll become entangled with our heroine as she seeks the justice that the law won’t mete out.
That also forms the basis for the connection between Soo-hyun and Soo-ho, who both know the answer to the central question — “Do you know the greatest agony a person can suffer?” — all too well. As Seon-yul shelters Soo-hyun from the rain, the title card warns that this shall become the prelude to a tragedy.
Helmed by PD Lee Seung-young (Tracer) and penned by Kim Ji-eun (Lies of Lies), Wonderful World is slated for a March 1 premiere.

Revenge drama trope is the best! I'm so looking forward to the screen comeback of Queen Kim Nam Joo ever since i last watched her in Misty. She was amazing in it! But i'm ngl, what i'm really excited to see in this coming kdrama is Cha Eunwoo. He's playing the character of college dropout Kwon Seon Yul who was left an orphan after the sudden death of his parents and since then has lead a difficult life(from Wikipedia). It's a role that is notably different from everything he's ever played in the past. From the trailer, we could see him working in a welding shop, another scene showed him boxing(underground fighting maybe?), riding motorcycles which combined with early pic released suggest he could be a delivery man, or something like that. He was also seen in a junkyard with greases all over his clothes even in his face too. Seems like a really tough life for this young man. Now the biggest mystery is, what will be his connection to Kim Nam Joo's character Soo Hyun? Many theories are surfacing on social media with many theorizing Seon Yul could turn out to be Soo Hyun's dead son(woah!). That would be the biggest plot twist of all, if ever! In any case, am really excited for this one and i can't wait for March 1 to come. Y'all let the countdown begins...

Unlikely. She was supposed to be his birth mother who gave him up and then got married and gave birth to another child who was murdered? Would he lose his adoptive parents to a crime? And in this way, while looking for justice for the death of their loved ones, would they find each other? I don't think that's the case in this drama. It's too soap opera. From what I have read about this drama, the greatest emphasis in the plot will be on the issue of seeking justice outside the legal system. Healing emotional wounds after the loss of loved ones.

We are only weeks away from March and I can't wait to watch "Wonderful World" with Queen Kim NamJoo and Cha Eunwoo. How will she seek revenge and who will she ask to help her? Seonyul? He's living a rough life after his parents passed away but why? What happened to him? So many questions, I am so excited!

This looks interesting, I like the FL
Does CEW’s face look like he had a turbulent life? Does he look like a bad boy. NOPE. It still looks perfectly made up with a perfect little blood spot on lips. Let’s hope he can bring something new to his acting.
Is this also going to be Disney 😅

Super excited for this drama. I watched Misty not too long ago and was BLOWN AWAY by Kim Namojo’s charisma and amazing acting. Not to mention it was so so different from her prev roles. I just know that she has an eye for scripts so pretty sure this is gonna be good. Not to mention - the writer wrote Lies or Lies which was a wild ride. Was it perfect? No, but still exciting makjang goodness. 😂
Looking forward to seeing Cha Eunwoo too because this role is unlike any of his past. I think this would be a turning point drama for him that’d lay people’s criticisms about his acting to rest. Even from the trailer it’s clear that he can act, if one chooses to see it and not be hung up thinking he gets by only on looks. If he wasn’t good, he wouldn’t have been courted to play as a main lead alongside Queen Namjoo. Looking forward to seeing their chemistry.
The rest of the cast are great too - Kim Kang Woo, Im Semi, Park Hyuk Kwon (I still remember him in Secrey Love Affair, amazing acting).
The plot seems to still be very vague and tightly under wraps so it’d be interesting to see what journey this drama brings us on. I hope that it stays true to its title that despite the pain that all our leads go through - there is still a wonderful world out there waiting for them at the end.
