Moon Sang-min objects to Jeon Jong-seo in Wedding Impossible

tvN’s new rom-com Wedding Impossible has started sending out their invites, kicking off their promo campaign with stills from the first script reading, led by Jeon Jong-seo (Bargain) and Moon Sang-min (Duty After School).

The web novel adaptation stars Jeon Jong-seo as Na Ah-jung, a talented but no-name actor who has been stuck playing minor parts. Thus, she is tempted when her best friend of 15 years Lee Do-han – played by Kim Do-wan (Doona) – offers her a main character act, by becoming his (fake) wife and daughter-in-law to his chaebol family.

That scenario alone spells hijinks for our fish-out-of-water heroine, but the wedding is also met with opposition from Do-han’s younger brother, Lee Ji-han (Moon Sang-min). You see, Ji-han’s long ambition has been to make his beloved hyung the conglomerate’s successor, but Ji-han’s careful plans are ruined with Do-han’s sudden decision to marry.

On his part, Do-han (Kim Do-wan) is a competent and capable candidate to inherit the chaebol group, but has been refusing to take on the position. What his family doesn’t know, of course, is that Do-han has been struggling with a difficult secret and ultimately crafts the fake marriage with Ah-jung in order to escape his family’s expectations.

Unaware of hyung’s secret, Ji-han has been eying CEO Yoon Chae-won – played by Bae Yoon-kyung (Unicorn) – to be a proper marriage match for his older brother. However, Chae-won ends up falling in love with Ji-han instead of Do-han, further complicating Ji-han’s well-intentioned but misguided plans.

Directed by PD Kwon Young-il (Doom at Your Service, My Unfamiliar Family) with scripts co-written by Park Seul-gi (Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist) and Oh Hye-won, tvN’s Wedding Impossible premieres next month on February 26, airing in the Monday-Tuesday slot following Marry My Husband.

I have no idea who any of these people are, which is a bit of a rarity these days. Can anyone give me insight about what to expect from them? The plot sounds basic, but could be really fun so I hope they pull it off! And it seems like the second leads will have their own cute thing going on after some initial ~plot~ so we might be spared the desperate/obsessive/doomed versions!

I don't know the female lead, but Moon Sang-min is an incredible new actor. He was fabulous in Under the Queen's Umbrella as the angst ridden grand prince. This guy just does not look million bucks but he can act. I love the tropey storyline (reminds me of the old Mills and Boons of the yore) and the lead so this is going high up on my watch list.

Jeon Jong-seo is a critically acclaimed movie actress winning awards for Burning and The Call. I've never seen her do rom-com, but she will without a doubt outact the rest of the cast.

Moon Sang-min gained popularity for his character Grand Prince Seongnam in Under the Queen's Umbrella. He can be charismatic, but if I take off my rose-colored glasses, I'll admit that his acting was kinda stiff, and he got the role because of his visual and height.

Kim Do-wan played the second lead in My Roommate Is a Gumiho as Kang Han-na's love interest and played a significant role in Start-Up, which some people believe was a trashfire. He has screen presence and can act.

Bae Yoon-kyung is probably best known for crushing on Rowoon's character in The King's Affection. I've also seen her play a spiteful reporter in Record of Youth, so she's talented.

I agree he could have done those scenes better (for one I didn't see any chemistry with his love interest Oh Ye Ju who is amazing in Matchmakers) but for most part he did a great job and he did have more than two expressions through most of the series (though it might have had a lot to do with the queen of emoting being in the same frame as him). I am hoping he has improved. He is one of the new ones I would love to follow though his career.

I only know Kim Do Wan who was great in My Roommate is a Gumiho. Kang Hanna is a very good and experienced actress, and he matched her like a pro.

Jeon Jong-seo also stars with Son Suk-ku in a romantic movie called Nothing Serious. It's a rom-com of its own. :)

As long as there are no murder mysteries or past life tragedies, I am all for a basic story like this.

So they fight to not become CEO? It's refreshing, usually, it's the opposite!

For the casting, I'm scared that Moon Sang-Min will look very young amongs the other actors. I liked as a Prince in Queen's Umbrella but at the end of the drama when his character should have opened a little bit, he was the same at the beginning... So I hope he will be able to make evovle his character.

I don't know really well Jeon Jong-Seo, I didn't Money Heist or Ballerina. But I'm impatient to watch her in a drama. Are they already filming Empress Woo?

I’m surprised at this casting, especially at Jeon Jong-seo agreeing to a romcom with a group of relatively newbies. She’s brilliant in her debut movie Burning (together with Yoon Ah-in and Steven Yeun) which gave me the vibe of a star is born. And playing edgy characters is becoming her specialty as her Tokyo in Money Heist: Korea is my favorite character out of the two seasons.

Maybe she wants to become more mainstream by doing more dramas (as opposed to movies) and now a romcom drama. I’m yet to watch her movie Nothing Serious co-starring Son Suk-ku. Has anyone watched it?

Me. It was on Netflix, maybe still is. It was a light, fun rom-com, marginally edgier than dramas usually are. The ending was a little weak but the leads were good so she might do well here.

Thanks for sharing! It doesn’t seem to be in Netflix anymore. Let’s see if I can find it elsewhere.

Yes, I am in! Actor taking on real life acting role wasn’t that the story in Curtain Call where there was a end date due to grandma’s illness, what’s the exit plan here?

The announcement of Jeon Jong-Seo doing a rom-com surprised me the most. I believe she will shine in this relatively new territory (as she is more used to acting in darker, edgier roles).

Also, this somehow gives me a slightly Business Proposal vibe. Hopefully it is a good thing.

The old synopses told Do han secret that he is gay and I guess Ah jung knows this since she is his best friend, and she fall for her brother in law. So Ji han and Ah Jung is the romantic pair leads!
I think this is first time one of the main leads is gay in prime time drama, so I hope they those him justice.

This is based on a webtoon where he is gay even mentioned in the synopses, but I guess since nobody in his family knows it is still a secret of him.

I've seen some synopses floating around the internet that did mention the fact so I was a bit surprised the DB version didn't have it.

I was going to include it but for some reason it's not mentioned in the source article, so I left it out just in case. Hopefully it's not omitted from the actual drama story. 🤞

I really like Kim Do-Hwan. The first time I saw him was Start-Up, but I think that role was pretty restricting. The second time was in My Roommate Is a Gumiho, a much more interesting character. He had great chemistry with Kang Han-Na. And then last year's Doona. His screen presence is really solid. I'm excited to see that he has a main role again in this new drama, even if Moon Sang-min is the romantic lead. He's going to do a great job!

A lot talk about Moon Sang-min and understandably so. However, I am SO EXCITED to see Jeon Jong-seo be in a romcom drama. She pretty much specializes in gritty, edgier roles, but I really enjoyed her performance in the movie Nothing Serious with Son Suk-ku. What a great talent and what a delight to see an actress branching out to a more diverse selection of roles.

Another fact of note: Kim Do-wan's character is a closeted gay man. I am nervous about how the writing will tackle that, but I would still be remiss to not point out how genuinely groundbreaking it is for a main character in a mainstream, primetime kdrama to be queer. The only other example I can think of is Kim Seo-hyung in Mine (yes there are almost certainly more but my memory is shoddy). I hope he gets an actual love interest and a swoony romance of his own at some point during the drama. As long as he gets to be a normal, fully-fledged human being in his own right with ambitions, desires and a personality of his own, my queer self will be satisfied.

Oh wow, thank you elucidating us. They subverted the chaebol-marries-to-end-all-dating trope with a solid motivation: the groom ACTUALLY wishes to do nothing romantically with women. Interesting, interesting. I will def check out the first episodes.

Also, when a talented movie actress takes a role in a drama, it's for 3 reasons: for money / hype, for a very well-written awards-worthy script or for groundbreaking / controversial topics explored in the drama. Let's see why she took that role on... *interest piqued very much*
