Jeon Jong-seo must say I do in Wedding Impossible

A contract marriage, chaebol succession, and a meddlesome brother-in-law sound like a recipe for a high-octane makjang, but tvN’s Wedding Impossible flips the script with a dose of humor. Starring Jeon Jong-seo (Bargain) as the bride-to-be and Moon Sang-min as her future brother-in-law, the upcoming rom-com depicts two leads with opposing missions and the ensuing hilarity that comes from their clash.

Jeon Jong-seo plays struggling actor Na Ah-jung who lands her first lead role: act as the partner to her longtime friend Kim Do-wan (Doona). Alas, younger brother Lee Ji-han (Moon Sang-min) opposes the union since it ruins his plans. Ji-han’s goal is to make his brother the successor to their family’s conglomerate, but this wedding would destroy all his hard work.

The poster for the show emphasizes the two lead’s “impossible mission” with one side being Ah-jung who must see this wedding through, and on the other is Ji-han who will try to stop it. Playing on the spy film pun, the characters are also dressed with ulterior motives with Ah-jung dressed in typical wedding attire including a tiara and veil, but underneath her dress, she wears red socks, a thigh holster, and leather boots. As for Ji-han, he’s in a dark suit with a gun in his hand, and I assume he prefers his martinis shaken, not stirred.

The latest teaser continues with these themes of weddings and missions as it opens to “Wedding March” only to abruptly cut off the music. As Ah-jung turns around, she accepts the contract marriage, and in return, she receives a suitcase filled with cash and a large diamond ring. She puts on makeup, straps up her boots, dons her leather gloves, and to top it off, wears her tiara. Thus begins our no-name actor’s greatest performance.

Directed by PD Kwon Young-il (Doom at Your Service, My Unfamiliar Family) with scripts by Park Seul-gi (Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist) and Oh Hye-won, tvN’s Wedding Impossible is slated for twelve episodes and will premiere on February 26 in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

I hope this maintains the light tone it’s portraying to avoid the annoying villain elements that usually appear when dealing with the chaebol succession battles.

It looks fun.

But if Moon Sang-Min is very tall, he kinda has a baby face. So it would be hard to believe he can be a CEO of any compagny.

If I understand the description correctly, he's not the CEO, and neither is his older brother... but he wants him to be. For reasons not yet revealed.

It's the principle. Both of them are heirs and can be CEO.

Yay! A Mon-Tue drama.
This could be fun. I don’t know either of the actors, hope they are good!

I don’t mind if they recycle the same plot and the themes and use tons of tropes. Familiarity is somewhat comforting. But it’s the execution, the dialogue and sticking to a genre that draws me in the new series (meaning, do.not.mix. rom com with serial killer genre for fs.) I am intrigued that they have one of the main characters gay (how long this has been in dramaland?!) But it’s only until you actually see the series you can make judgements about the overall quality of the drama.

The teaser does look somewhat more slap-stick than I imagined so I am a bit surprised. Not sure I’m down with that.

I don't like this actress. She was in the movie Burning.

Interesting! I won't say I'm ecstatic after the trailer, but the premise sounds super fun- almost Business Proposal-esque

Recycling an old trope is fine if it is done right. By which I mean it will be fun IF the writers only remember that a romcom is supposed to be a comedy and not a makjang brawl.

I will check this one out unless it is another show locked out of the North American market by Disney.

I’m confused as to how getting married would destroy his chance at inheriting the conglomerate. Isn’t the oldest son usually the first choice for that anyway? I wonder why little bro needs some sort of plan to make that happen.

Anyway I hope it’s for wholesome bromance reasons, like “hey older bro I know our parents have it out for you for some reason, but I still believe in you and want you to succeed”

This is exactly what I was thinking as usually marriage is what they are looking for in their eldest, for the heirs. The only thing I could think of is the parents may have had plans to marry him off to a conglomerate's daughter so will disqualify him as a punishment. Maybe the younger son is avoiding having to be the back up plan as he has other ideas about how he wants to live his life. I am looking forward to seeing the explanation.

Maybe the younger brother knows that she is just an unknown third-class actress, without any influence, she doesn't have a rich family. Such a person is not suitable to be the wife of a rich man who is the heir of a company. At least this is what happens in dramas: the media creates a scandal out of this type of relationships, presenting such women as gold-diggers, which affects the prices of company shares.

She looks so cute here, one would never imagine she's the same person who played one of the most terrifying villains in The Call...
