Seo In-gook finds love again amidst Death’s Game

What would you do if you met your ex-girlfriend but in a different body? That is the question Death’s Game poses to its protagonist Choi Yi-jae played by Seo In-gook (Cafe Minamdang). A down-on-his-luck man who commits suicide, Yi-jae finds himself trapped in a twisted game with Park So-dam (Record of Youth) who plays Death, and he must find a way to live lest he meet twelve unfortunate ends.

The latest clip for the upcoming thriller has a shift in tone, and instead of showcasing every single face from its star-studded lineup, it focuses on three characters: Seo In-gook as Choi Yi-jae, Lee Do-hyun (The Good Bad Mother) as Jang Gun-woo, and Go Yoon-jung (Moving) as Lee Ji-soo. While Yi-jae is occupying Gun-woo’s body as part of his punishment, Ji-soo enters the café where he works. He stares at her, frozen in place, and memories from a happier time come flooding back to him.

The scene switches to the past and reveals the moment the ex-lovers first met. While Ji-soo walks across a bridge, the wind carries her manuscript away along with the cherry blossoms. The papers land in front of Yi-jae, and he hears Ji-soo call out to him. She tells him that she will come down to pick them up, and when she smiles at him, it is evident that Yi-jae has fallen in love.

Returning to the present, Yi-jae watches Ji-soo slowly approach him, and though he remembers her, she only sees him as Gun-woo. It seems Death wants to torture our protagonist emotionally as well as physically with these twelve lives.

Directed and adapted by Ha Byung-hoon (18 Again, Go Back Spouses), TVING’s Death’s Game is slated for eight episodes and will drop the first half on December 15 and the second half next year on January 5.

This is crueler than twelve painful deaths.

WHY????
Are they playing the death game with us???

I'm also surprised. But for once I'm okay with it since it's only 2 weeks and one is the 25 to 31 Dec that I'll have to spend with familly (and restrict dramawatching). Very specific situation, I still do not condone the drama-spliting trend.

Death is particularly cruel with that new twist.
Since they will split it in half, I will start this in January then. More time for currently airing shows.

“ What would you do if you met your ex-boyfriend but in a different body?”
I would say, phew! He can’t tell it’s me, disaster avoided! 👏🏽

Oh, I thought Go Yoon-jung was also one of Seo In-guk’s bodies, not a different character entirely. Kinda wished they explored the gendered angle of occupying new bodies. A big ask for a kdrama, I know, but a girl can hope.

I thought exactly this.

Yeah, I thought the same.

On occupying a different gender, Beauty Inside (both the drama and the movie) did a bit of that, though not extensively.

I thought the movie version of Beauty Inside did a much better job than the tv adaptation.

The TV show was very different in the fact she had her own body/face during a time and just changed once by Month. She could have a public life.

In the movie, he was a different person every time he slept, so every morning.

This difference made a big change in the story for me.

Yeah that shift changed the point of the story radically. There's not that much difficulty in shifting bodies only once a month at a specific time. Meanwhile the movie universe shifter couldn't even have their own identity.

That was my though also, but then I saw that she has a "support role", as Kim Ki Hoon, while the other incarnations are "guest".
I spend too much time on mdl pages...

Given that Go Youn Jung is in the equation, my first thought would be that alchemy of souls was involved??

Sorry I meant I would swap Lee Jae-wook for Seo In-guk not for Lee Do-hyun sorry.

I keep thinking of Go Yoon-jung as a high school kid and it takes awhile to realise she is older.
If the drama is good we know this year ended well and 2024 is off to a good start.
But if it’s bad then I can save 2024 from a bad start. So I will watch part one in December😇.

I wonder if they will be able to do as good as the movie Beauty Inside. The actors/actresses did so well to portray the same character in love with Han Hyo-joo.

In this case, I wonder if he has memories of the life of the body he's taken or it's just him.

Ooh! Interesting take on that. Then each “body” would have a story too. How much can they cram in just 8 episodes.

To be honest, I'm not sure I understood the plot. 😅

If he just occupies a body to feel the pain of a new death? Or is there more?

It seems different than Beauty Inside. Let’s see.

Oh clearly. In Beauty Inside, he didn't take over the body of someone else, neither his/her life. His body/face were just changing.

The more I see about this, the more nervous I am because it looks so interesting to me. But then I also don't want to see to much cause it kinda feels like they're showing us *everything* to entice viewers and fans of the other actors.

I wonder if it will be covered in weecaps. If it's just covered in a hangout, that will be disappointing since many don't comment in them regularly.
