News bites: November 1, 2023

Clockwise: Jo Jung-seok, Shin Se-kyung, Park Ye-young, Lee Shin-young

  • tvN announced their lineup for the sageuk romance Sejak, the Enchanted, headlined by Jo Jung-seok (Hospital Playlist 2), Shin Se-kyung (Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramun), Lee Shin-young (CEO-dol Mart), and Park Ye-young (Summer Strike). Slated to air in January 2024, the historical fiction has PD Jo Nam-gook (The Good Detective) directing with scripts penned by Kim Sun-deok (The Crowned Clown). [News1]

  • With Lee Seon-kyun (Payback) bowing out, production for the mystery-thriller No Way Out has been busily re-organizing and an offer is currently out for Jo Jin-woong (The Good Bad Mother) to step in. Also in talks – for a different character – is Kim Sung-chul (Our Beloved Summer), while the rest of the main cast have already begun shooting with filmmaker Choi Gook-hee (Life is Beautiful) and writer Lee Soo-jin (The Devil’s Deal). [Osen (1), (2)]

  • A new poster and video teaser have been released for Hulu Japan’s Secret Playlist, bringing in the warm fuzzies with a dash of music for Kim Hyang-gi (Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist 2) and Shin Hyun-seung’s (Han River Police) cute (secret) romance. Premiering this month on November 18, the webtoon adaptation is being led by PD Kim Jong-chang and writer Park Yoon-sung. [News1]
  • TVING also came out with a new poster and teaser set, revealing another glimpse of Lee Sung-min’s (Shadow Detective 2) A Bloody Lucky Day when a creepy Yoo Yeon-seok (Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 3) becomes his taxi passenger. Also starring Lee Jung-eun (Missing: The Other Side 2), Part 1 of the series will be releasing its six episodes on November 24. [KBS]

  • Speaking of bloody, it’s a haunting season for Netflix as well, who dropped a video announcement for Sweet Home 2, along with the first poster. With Song Kang (Forecasting Love and Weather), Lee Jin-wook (Welcome to Wedding Hell), and Lee Shi-young (Grid) reprising their lead roles, the new second season will be kicking off next month on December 1. [News1]
  • Preparations are also underway for Netflix’s Gyeongseong Creature, which will reportedly be launching this December 22. Starring Park Seo-joon (Itaewon Class) and Han So-hee (Soundtrack #1) among other talents, the period action has PD Jung Dong-yoon (It’s Okay to Not Be Okay) at the helm with scripts by the Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim series writer Kang Eun-kyung. [Star News]
  • In a nice change of pace, ENA gives us room for some quiet introspection in their newest character posters for Tell Me You Love Me. The classic melodrama stars Jung Woo-sung (Fly Dragon) and Shin Hyun-bin (Reborn Rich), and will be coming to our screens on November 27. Airing in the Monday-Tuesday slot, PD Kim Yoon-jin (Our Beloved Summer) is the talent behind the camera with writing by Kim Min-jung (The Sound of Magic). [News1]

1. " with scripts penned by Kim Sun-deok (The Crowned Clown)" - read: "Sic, avoid." 😂

3, 6, and 7 will potentially be started, depending on how I feel when they finally air. None of them grab me particularly, except for Gyeonsaeng's setting, but my coming soons are pretty sparse, so maybes have been bumped up lmao.

I have no drama to look forward to in the near future except Season 2 of C-dramas "Joy of Life" and "Nirvana in Fire 3."

I'm just sad for the reason Lee Seon-kyun stepped down and for his current Real Life drama.

1) I'm really excited for a new drama of Jo Jung-Seok! Shin Se-kyung didn't bring anything to Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramun, so I hope she will better in this one. Lee Shin-young will in a better production than CEO-dol Mart! I don't think he did sageuk in the past. This time the writer needs to focus until the end! I loved The Crowned Clown except the end...

3) The leads are cute, I just need them to be convincing in the romance part.

6) Excited for the era! It's not so often we get this period. Less excited by the 2 parts things...

7) I will watch it for Jung Woo-sung!

First news : the male lead is terrific (it’s JJS after all) and LSY is a talented rising star, but I don’t think SSK is on par with JJS. Sorry for the harsh judgment, but her acting in Arthdal was almost painful, she barely survive the character. Maybe it just her acting style isn’t my cup of tea, I don’t know. What bother me so much about her acting is it seems her eyebrows didn’t move at all. Maybe she is trying to portray the emotion through her eyes but it failed because her eyes don’t speak much.

The last time I see PYY is in Summer Strike, and her character was annoying there it left me a bitter taste. I’m excited for the male casts, but not so much on the female casts.

Last news : pelase, tell me mature love story. please, be a slowburn and deep one. please, be pure, enchanting and beautiful. please, don’t be dragging and boring.

Nope, it's not just you. She can do sageuk speech and all but she is still bland as ever no matter how many sageuks she's been in.

I first saw Shin Se Kyung in Blade Man and trust me, it’s not just you. Lee Dong Wook (and his soulful eyes🥺), bless his heart, gave his all to really sell the love story but SSK remained stiff with the occasional display of vague surprise. It was hardly tolerable.

I heard she is better is saeguk but I’m not enthusiastic to watch her.

Since I first noticed No. 1. Every time I see SEJAK I want to to “Pat”. It is a US thing. I will be giving it a pass. @sicarius I know where you are coming from lol.

My next sageuk experience will be KBS’s S/S 32 episode GORYEO-KHITAN WAR . Episode one airs soon on Nov. 11.
For US viewers finally there is some positive availability news. It is now on Kocowa’s “Coming Soon” list under the title: KOREA-KHITAN WAR.
Hopefully it will soon appear on Viki US’s “Coming Soon” list.

Sticking with Secret playlist and Tell me you love me as so far nothing is making me feel I need to approach either with caution, BUT there is still time for some poster or trailer to reveal something dodgy.

It will be nice to see Jo Jung Seok in a sageuk! Been a while.

I wonder if Secret Playlist will be available and subbed. Would like to see more of the leads after seeing them in a few roles!

A Bloody Lucky Day looks too scary for me. @__@
