Meet the cast in character posters for Castaway Diva

Character posters are out for the cast of tvN’s rom-com Castaway Diva, and not only are they (1) gorgeous, they also (2) give us more info on the people that will be propelling Park Eun-bin (Extraordinary Attorney Woo) to singer stardom.

The story is centered around our main character, the island girl Seo Mok-ha (Park Eun-bin). She’s wanted to be a singer ever since she was young, but an attempt to travel for an audition when she was in middle school left her stranded on a deserted island for 15 years. Thankfully, she’s a plucky gal, and after years of Swiss Family Robinson-ing a life for herself, she eventually ends up being rescued and brought back to civilization. And despite being a complete fish-out-of-water in modern Seoul, Mok-ha is ready to dive in and press play on her dreams to grace the stage.

She starts by meeting her longtime role model, singer Yoo Ran-joo — played by Kim Hyo-jin (The Good Detective 2). While her voice on a cassette tape inspired Mok-ha many years ago, Ran-joo is far from her glory days, having faded into obscurity. However, Mok-ha’s story moves her enough to not only take her in under her roof, but also under her wing as a mentor figure. With Mok-ha’s optimism and Ran-joo’s knowledge of showbiz, the two are ready to take on whatever obstacle comes in the way of realizing their dreams.

They’ll also have assistance from some helpful men along the way. On one hand we have the pair of brothers, consisting of the serious variety show PD Kang Bo-geol — played by Chae Jong-hyeop (Unlock the Boss) — and the determined news reporter Kang Woo-hak — played by Cha Hak-yeon (Joseon Attorney: A Morality). With their connections in the industry, they’ll each assist Mok-ha in their own way (and fall in love with the same girl in the process? Yikes!).

On the other hand, we have the uber-competent CEO of Ran-joo’s management company, Lee Seo-jun — played by Kim Joo-heon (Romantic Doctor Kim 3). While the three men are initially skeptical of Mok-ha and Ran-joo’s dreams, they’ll eventually come around and become their biggest supporters in the process.

A collaboration between writer Park Hye-ryun and director Oh Chun-hwan (of While You Were Sleeping and Start Up success), along with writer Eun-yeol, Castaway Diva will premiere on October 28.

Bonus material: Netflix will be streaming the series and has released a full trailer for their platform (see below), while tvN has just dropped an extremely long highlight reel so you can watch the drama without actually having watched it yet. Enjoy!

That extra long reel is a brilliant tactic for giving just enough to get us interested but still leave us confused🤣

Is this highlight reel a new thing ... A Good Day To Be A Dog also did it right?

Dramas have been doing highlight reels for quite a few years now!

While I know that Park Eun-bin will end up with Chae Jong-hyeop, I can't stand love triangles between brothers, cousins, uncles-nephews, or any family. I was so turned off by the brothers love triangle in Reply 1997 that it's my least favorite Reply.

While I absolutely loved REPLY '97, I agree that love triangle was horrendous. It made zero sense whatsoever since the start and I have no idea how anyone in their right mind could ship FL with the older bro given the context. All the latter half of the show I've spent praying that he WON'T end up being the husband lmao. Not to mention that SIG's char was RIGHT THERE...

Anyway, +1000000 with you on relatives in love triangles. This trope is ewww and should be killed, buried and left with no gravestone to even remember it.

Everything that was wrong with their relationship was eww. He was her teacher. He was her dead sister's fiancé. He was her best friend's, who was in love with her, older brother. I lost respect for her once she started dating him.

I don't understand how the infamous Guess-the-Husband mystery started with this drama. First, it was obvious that it was Seo In-guk, but second, instead of rooting for Seo In-guk to be the husband, I was rooting against Hyung to NOT be the husband.

Agree. If he was just one of those things, it would've been more understandable, but all that combined? Too much of nope.

I think the mystery format was just too fresh and show overall too loved for people to care. Plus perhaps there's some cultural nuance foreigners can't quite get, you know, the whole OPPA thing... Watched the show with a bunch of irl friends and we were united in our confusion, with most popular line thrown out there being "Does she need glasses, perhaps?")))

Maybe they are misleading with the love triangle angle, and the older brother will be a brother figure/friend to Mok-ha instead. No romantic feelings, just a good person looking out for a friend.

The posters are sooooo pretty. Love the bright rainbow touches.

The other characters helping Mok Ha and Ran Joo achieve their dreams sound great. Looking forward to seeing Kim Joo Heon!

The poster is all sunshine and rainbows, as is Park Eun Bin's smile. Hope the show is equally sunny-funny. Regardless, looking forward.

One of the most unrealistic things about AGE OF YOUTH S1 was that Park Eun-bin’s character couldn’t get a second date?! EXCUSE ME?!

So yeah I want everyone to fall in love with her. Give me a sapphic romance, give me a love triangle, give me our DIVA!

This is the Dream High 2 we deserved! And my most anticipated show this year

I didn’t understand the complaints about CJH’s styling in the last post. But in the full trailer… Oh, they’ve done him wrong. Almost Junho in JBL level (not quite cos not quite as orange). Still, once that full face smile lights up our screen, all will be forgiven.
