Premiere Watch: The Worst of Evil

Time slot: Wednesdays
Broadcaster: Disney+
Genre: Crime, action, noir
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: After the success of Moving, Disney+ is dropping the crime noir The Worst of Evil, which is responsible for luring Ji Chang-wook back to the action genre (*confetti*). Set in 1990s Gangnam, we’ll watch Ji Chang-wook as a cop that infiltrates the crime syndicate run by Wie Ha-joon. It looks dark, moody, and suspenseful, and here’s hoping the script can keep up with our actors and premise — the latter which is rife with the tension of past entanglement and hidden/not-so-hidden attachments. The drama also features Im Se-mi, and marks singer Bibi’s drama debut. (Gotta have that femme fatale. It is a noir after all.) Disney+ is kind enough to drop the first three episodes on premiere night, so buckle up, folks!

TL;DR: Ji Chang-wook is back in ACTION

Wie Ha-joon!
I'm not in the mood for a crime noir drama, but I will be rooting for you in the recaps.

I really had no interest in this despite the Ji Chang Wook bias, but I recently watch and loved Wi Ha Joon in Romance Is a Bonus Book, so now, I’m at least curious. I had previously seen him in King Eternal Monarch, he didn’t stand out there for me but that all changed when I watched RIABB.

Maybe Wi Ha-joon didn't stand out in The King: Eternal Monarch because he wasn't in it?

I nearly made that mistake too. The guy in TK:EM looks pretty like him but is actually Kim Kyung-nam. And he's great.

Idk how to react to this all...

On the one hand, HILARIOUS, that me seeing these two YEARS ago and going "Brothers. They have to play brothers. They're Brothers in my heart." was clearly not unfounded, just ahead of its time.

On the other hand, I'm so sad Kim Kyung Nam was so overshadowed in TKEM so as to be thought of as someone else entirely asdfhjkl; I didn't watch that show and never will, and he had to compete against Woo Do Hwan², which is certainly a hard act for anyone to follow, and also Kim Eun Sook, who I wouldn't trust to write anything or anyone, and he's only JUST made it to leading man status last year with a drama nobody (very few of us) watched, but I've been following him since he was a blooming extra in AOY1!!!! So!!!!!

AnYWAY.
They're both great, give them both some love, lmfao.

@sicarius
For me, he was one of the best part of the show with WDH. He had a way better chemistry with Kim Go-Eun than Lee Min-Ho. His character had an interesting story.
It's why I didn't like the ML just went in the past and erased everything his uncle did to make things "right".

@kurama I am encouraged to hear that as he's always been a scene stealer for me, with his sad and serious eyes 😭.
Glad to know he was uh... JUST victim of the bad writing then for some dflkhada. If that can be a glad thing. Truly, they two would've been why I watched at all too, but I'd rather not see them wasted in a KES drama 🙄
What's that like, Second AND Third Lead Syndrome... lmao.

Speaking of though, WHERE IS HE. WHERE are both he and KDY??? No 2023 dramas for either? Why am I starved so?

1. KKN was in AOY1?? Ok i have to find him, I don’t remember this at all.

2. I totally get ya @flighteygazelles1
I think i spent 10 years thinking Kim Ji Seok was the jerk in Sam Soon until a beanie pointed out it was in fact Lee Kyu Han.. now that i know the difference, they don’t even look alike 🤦🏻‍♀️

“ and he had to compete against Woo Do Hwan²“

Just popping in to say I love that you squared WDH for TKEM, which is simply perfect. Because he wasn’t playing identical twins, he really was the same person, yet two different characters.

Wow I was like "yes I remember him" but it was another person 😅

Yes yes, the drama looks cool, but can we actually just make that picture into an album cover and go a whole different direction with this? I want some songs about angsty breakups and the fact that your life isn't what you imagined. I'll wait.

Okay, this picture made me think these two would be perfect for this week's hot—, I mean, superpowered brothers Cast Away.

Let's hope Wi Ha-joon's track record cancels out Ji Chang-wook's.

And it had to be D+. (Sulks in corner, then tries to find the dark side access).

I sympathize (with you, not with the Mouse). It is available on Hulu in the US now, though - I just checked. Widespread darkside access should follow shortly.
