As for our weekend slots, King the Land has a lovely finale leap, Durian continues to rise, and My Dearest sees a drop for its second episode.

KTL finale was beautiful. There was no childhood connection which we had expected. It made the story all the more better and worthwhile
It is a simple love story. He is attracted, asks her out, they date, they kiss, they communicate and resolve issues together and individually, they marry, HEA. Pretty much what I expect from my romcom. There is no murderer in sight. Cheers!!

Nice to see a decent start for My Lovely Liar! Makes me a little sad when I drama I really like isn't performing the best with ratings - here's to hoping both plot and ratings continue a steady quality!!

Given MBC's poor track record MY DEAREST started OK, but with the resources and effort poured into it this is not enough. Wonder if viewers will tune in once war angst kicks in fully. Does anyone know how the reviews/comments in SK are?

The local viewers are unpredictable. I'm curious how the rating would fare this weekend.
This show is breaking all kinds of rules and traditions to cater to the romantic relationship between the main characters. I hope this approach doesn't alienate older viewers.

They certainly aren't betting on very young viewers either so target demographic must be somewhere in the middle. REBEL secured its fanbase with fantastic prologue episodes, but this story doesn't have childhood part and kinda got straight to the angsty point within premier week. Then again, it's ONLY 20 episodes, I believe, so lively pace makes sense. I do think that a bit more time for leads to develop a deeper connection would've been better. So far it feels a little rushed, at least from ML's side.

I watched the first two episodes of "My dearest" and I like the plot, but I didn't feel interested in the love story of the main couple, or the story of the second couple. Even the story of the elderly couple with 60 years of marriage did not make me emotional. I liked the music, more akin to what could have been in the 17th century, folk customs. But I'm going to keep watching because of the upcoming war in the plot. I hope that the drama will not spare the characters, many of them will die, be tortured, other terrible things will happen, that is, there will be war realism, not a "fairy tale war".
I like "Mrs Durian" from the beginning, even the terribly slow plot does not deter me. Although I haven't seen any information anywhere, but it's obvious that there will be a 2nd season.
"Heartbeat" has been my favorite drama for many weeks. I like everything in it. There's just nothing about it that annoys me, it's so enjoyable.

THE REAL HAS COME is still stuck in the low twenties- not that good for a weekender.
KING THE LAND delivered and deserved the love.

The Uncanny Counter is not my kind of drama it seems, for some reason I don’t like the girl, what is her name, Seajeong? She used her Produce fame good though, but I do feel like she gets lot of support from somewhere being everywhere.
I watched the first season of First Responders, but when I tried to check the second season, I already don’t remember what happened before and felt bored, so pass.
Lady Durian, the stupid name itself kind of was bad sign, tried watching to fill the time, dropped.
So I am left with I have been longing to see you and My Lovely Liar

Have you tried Heartbeat? Loving it. You have to make it through the first few episodes, but after that, it's a gem!

It'll be interesting to see where the KTL viewers go now--will they not tune in to anything at all or migrate primarily to one show? If the latter, I think "My Dearest" deserves it the most. I'm terrible at predicting ratings, but MD also seems like a show that will draw a lot of domestic viewers. We'll see next week, I guess.

I wonder about the range of the domestic viewers as shows we love the domestic market does not and vice versa. I wanted to watch My dearest but I don’t think the show will be watchable for me as it progresses into the war years. I am loving My lovely liar and can not wait to see how it plays out this week. I am worried that it could turn dark and I will need to find an alternative live watch. Currently there are not a lot of light dramas are available.

That crossed my mind too. But genre difference is pretty drastic to expect mass transition - lighthearted fanservice romcom VS heaby wartime melo. Not to mention certain hidden rocks - particularly MD's FL who's vain, bold, shamelessly flirts with every male around and unapologetically covets her friend's betrothed. I'm afraid such a far cry from typical pure-hearted virginal kdrama heroine may be too much for conservative TV viewers. Showrunners certainly took many risks here.

It’s good to see ENA finally have that second hit - and with such a good show too. Not Others deserves the ratings.
I have nothing to say accept that Heartbeat should be getting numbers in the 40s or 50s. This is a travesty.
The drop for My Dearest is a bit depressing. I thought local audiences would’ve liked a traditional sageuk. That doesn’t bode well for networks signing off on future traditional sageuks. I hope ratings increase in the coming weeks.
Would be nice if My Lovely Liar’s numbers kept on growing incrementally. I know fantasy romcom types aren’t domestic favourites, but I can hope!
King the Land… well, I’m happy for Junho and YoonA and the state of romantic comedies in dramaland. The numbers were great and proved there is a local audience for fluffy romances without awkwardly inserted murder plots. Even if I found it to be a very nothing drama, this is promising.

Fantasy romcom not a thing in SK? My love from another star was a fantasy romcom, was it not?

Not recently, no. My Love from Another Star was released over a decade (!!!) ago and the landscape of Korean dramas has changed drastically since then. Not to mention it had the massive selling point that was Jun Ji-hyun - a Chungmuro superstar making her long-awaited television comeback. Those factors, along with a genuinely good script (a rarity in the kdrama fantasy genre, sadly), made it a lightning rod for success that was never again replicated. So yeah, fantasy romcoms are not guaranteed hits domestically.

May be they are frustrated with the recent ones. I know I am and I am a fan of low fantasy. LINK, Kiss sixth sense( very good actors but), Heavenly idol, Jinxed at first, See you in 19th life, Nine tailed fox etc. Can't believe I have watched all these except the season 2 of the Nine tailed fox. They start out interesting but go nowhere.

Oh, I see, I just benchmark against My love from another star and Goblin, both were hits, though I didn’t like the second one, I agree with you, the quality of other fantasy dramas were really not good with bad script, but as you say, issue is not that Koreans don’t like the fantasy rom coms, it is that they became really badly made of recent, the second season of Nine Tailed was actually not bad, doe’s Alchemy of Souls a fantasy rom com, I think it did well?
