Would You Rather #21

In dramaland, leading ladies often find themselves torn between the love of two equally attractive men — a choice none of us would want to make! But what if you did have to pick between the frustrating lawyer and the adorkable police officer? In this weekly feature, we ask you to make the difficult decisions — and we aren’t limiting our options to dreamy oppas.

Vote via the poll and feel free to use the comments to explain exactly how you were able to choose! So, Beanies:

WOULD YOU RATHER #20 RESULTS

Okay, this is officially the closest poll yet! Basement vampire won by a single vote, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted to cast my own vote just to make the results dead even. Buuuuut, if I were to pick based on my true preferences, I’d be Team Vampire, too.

For starters, as @luckywargoddess stated, if you’re into getting bit by a vampire, traditional lore says that comes with immortality and the ability to fly. Given their aversion to sunlight, they’d also make excellent partners for a K-drama marathon, according to @mayhemf. Plus, and this is very critical in today’s housing market, the vampire comes with a house — a house with a basement! Yeah, I’ve got to agree with @LaurenSophie, @minniegupta1, and several others on this one: the power of homeownership is too good to pass up.

On the other hand, Team Robot had some pretty compelling arguments, too. For starters, depending on the type of vampire — and pending no robot uprisings — a robot boyfriend would probably be the safer option for those, like @isagc, who’d rather pick the harmless and cute option. Plus, as @asianromance pointed out, a robot can be powered down whenever you want some quality alone time. The amount of “me time” I require is exponentially high, so I almost kissed my dreams of eternity and homeownership goodbye and joined Team Robot.

Wow, both options are nightmares to me. I don't what either of these choices are in reference to but having to deal with a high maintaince chaebol and having to deal with their mood and whims would just annoy me to no end. I would likely get fired for rolling my eyes and sighing too much.

Being a director of several failed movies is something I would take incredibly hard and personally. Oh, it's stressful even imagining all that pressure especially with a history of failed projects behind you.

The first one is King the Land (ongoing) and the second one is Zombie Detective :-)

Me as anyone's assistant is already a huge joke itself, let alone doing so for some spoiled rich brat. Zombie movies aren't my biggest cinema crush either, but I'm confident I know enough of the genre to eventually make the one that will not tank, making all the previous failures nothing more than bad memory and tearjerker-ish award acceptance speech material. See yall at red carpet then!^^

I think this question really is whether you are a self-employed independent person or a dependent follower employee.

I like being my own boss so director is an easy choice. Ironically, in a tight industry where success only matters, it is hard to believe someone would get several chances to make a profitable movie.

direct zombie movies because life should be at least fun. though making any movie is stressful I have been on the sets a fair deal (hours and hours...) and zombies only have to run when there is a scene but everyone else runs nonstop... and these movies might still become cult classics when the right kind of passionate nerds discover them

like I once wrote a bad poem on purpose and it somehow ended up in a literature textbook next to some famous dude from our history and all the kids had to study it in class.

anything you do is not failed till you have seen the end of it. failure is another word for episode 14, before the final 2.

Chaebol assistant - No work life balance, ridiculed by family or society, probably getting slapped by some crazy chaebol person, putting up with corruption, getting entangled with things that are outside your values etc etc. the list goes on.
So, being a director of zombie movies is an easy pick. And zombie movies are usually loved by a small audience and chances of it becoming a cult classic after box office failure is high.
I assume there is a reason the director is still getting movies.

Talking about zombies, I saw that Netflix had a new series called Zombieverse coming soon. I don’t know what ‘horror reality TV’ means.
Anyway, I am sure there are fellow zombie lovers who will watch zombie movies even if they don’t do well.

I'd go for the assistant. The chaebol heir might be high maintenance, but it never says cruel (and most kdrama chaebol heirs are secretly marshmallows), and there is the possibility of developing the world's most adorable friendship with them over the course of your work.

I also think I'd be a really great assistant, tbh. I'm constantly fighting the urge to organize other peoples' stuff, and being competent and efficient are things I really value in myself. Plus, I bet there'd be great professional development opportunities, lots of travel, and language-learning.

On the other hand, with the zombie movies, I think it would be really hard to fail multiple times at something you obviously care about, and I'm not sure I could deal with that very well. Demoralizing in the extreme.

I can deal with the failed movies and even being a laughingstock because of those failures.

I absolutely cannot tolerate entitled attitudes and refuse to be a gofer for someone with said attitude—having to be at their beck-and-call, cleaning up their messes (literal and figurative), etc. Even if they are full of justice and benevolent behavior. Nope. Hard pass.

Easy choice for me cause I hate zombies and everything to do with them. Not that being subject to a rich person's whims and stupidity would be easier but I think I am good at appeasing and soothing ridiculous situations and offer advice to help said snot nose actually improve their own personalities without them realizing it is happening. subtle yet effective brown nosing maybe? Just keep those zombies in the closet will you?

Having had a job where I called myself “The Broom” - because I was always sweeping up behind my boss - I would actually do that again. There’s a lot of room for fixing what the boss does and oiling the wheels with other staff and customers to keep things moving in the right direction. You do have to not care when he takes credit for your ideas … because you made him think he thought of it. Egos!

Do I get to be Junho’s assistant? That’s a totally different gig…. Especially as this one seemed to get a lot more perks in time off and money than other situations. Junho and him also don’t seem quite so attached at the hip. I also wouldn’t mind the See You in my 19th life variety where we are really best friends and business partners as much as chaebol and assistant.

I know how annoying spoiled brats can be because since I'm one of them (the perks of being the maknae), but in this case it would be worse because he isn't a regular brat. He's a "high maintenance CHAEBOL" and also my boss... LMAO, no thanks.

But being a movie director would be awesome! I love movies and zombies can be so much fun!
I actually watched Zombie Detective, so I know how his arc ends. It was awesome. There's no competition here. It's like asking "do you wanna live in the palace as a woman during the Joseon dynasty or do you want to be sexy, free & single in 2023?". 😆

Screw the establishment and the man! I’ll work at my bad zombie films thanks. I’m not just saying this because I like ZOMBIE DETECTIVE more, no definitely not 😉

Side-note: I’m glad An Se-ha is getting the spotlight here. I’m enjoying his performance in KTL, switching from subservient employee, to honest but obtuse buddy secretary, to overconfident bossy prick!

Seems like the less risky path is to become a director of failed zombie movies. In Zombie Detective, he's not living a destitute life so it's not that bad. And having Choi Jin-hyuk's cute zombie be my biggest fan would be awesome.

For the assistant path, I guess it depends on how high maintenance the chaebol heir is and what he's paying me. A situation like What Wrong with Secretary Kim wouldn't be too bad - I can just learn all these skills, make money, build a great wardrobe, and then quit.

I'm choosing assistant based on the potential pay check haha. Also, good point on the skills learned- assistant to a notorious chaebol heir means I'll probably have built up a decent resume by the time I do quit. On to the next chaebol!

Let me embrace failure and pursue my impossible dream of making a realistic zombie movie that nobody else but myself will enjoy. What more could a zombie enthusiast want than manage projects that are pronounced dead to the public eye before they can even start?
What better homage to a living dead creature than making my creations the embodiment of being a zombie?

It all depends on what gender I get to be. If I get to be the assistant like Sec Kim then yes, I would love it. But otherwise no. I don't think I would ever make Zombie movies, but I am OK to be a failed director.

The Zombie director brother in law was such a fun and sweet element of Zombie Detective. A must watch drama, IMHO ^^

I just want to live a life that can pay my bills without the air of work responsibility hovering over my head, if I can. If such opens up, I'll take it. Of course, with the view to retiring after amassing financial capacity. So I'll go with "be the assistant to a high maintenance chaebol".
