Taecyeon feels his Heartbeat for instant ramyun

Put your hands up for KBS’s newest teaser for Heartbeat, finally revealing more of the supporting cast with another look at our main pair’s first meet-scare.

This time opening with our heroine Won Ji-ahn (If You Wish Upon Me), we learn in voiceover that her father recently passed and left her all of his possessions, including a creepy old house. But when she goes to investigate the property, she certainly did not expect to find Taecyeon (Blind) sleeping in her basement.

Our undead Seon Woo-hyul (Taecyeon) is very cranky, though, having been woken up before his alarm. As we watch the backstory in flashback, Joo In-hae (Won Ji-ahn) recaps the main points: “You’re a vampire who tried to become human by sleeping in this cramped coffin for 100 years. But you failed because I opened the coffin one day early?” Not believing a word, In-hae promptly tells Woo-hyul to scram.

We then cut to our fish-out-of-water hero reuniting with his vampire minions: Yoon Byung-hee (Delightfully Deceitful) and Go Kyu-pil (Shadow Detective). They update Woo-hyul on how the world has changed and it’s not just the new technology. He can forget about drinking blood off humans and even vampires have to work to make money.

In-hae then gets a second meet-scare when Woo-hyul shows up at her work. He proudly tells her that he’s been hired as the school custodian. But he’s also under instructions from Kim In-kwon (Kokdu: Season of Deity) to stay by In-hae’s side and protect her. After finally believing that Woo-hyul is a vampire, In-hae also starts to wonder if he likes her.

The next sequence introduces our main four actors, which includes Park Kang-hyun (West Side Story) and Yoon So-hee (Peng) – in both her past and present forms. We then hear the question again of why Woo-hyul wants to become human and he replies, “Love. I want to experience a heartbeating love.”

The teaser then closes as our half-vampire has an amazing first experience with instant ramyun and drinks at a convenience store, while In-hae looks on in shock.

Following My Perfect Stranger in the Monday-Tuesday slot, KBS’s Heartbeat premieres on June 26 with production led by PD Lee Hyun-seok (Hello? It’s Me, The King’s Affection) and PD Lee Min-soo (The Stain), and writing by Kim Ha-na and Jung Seung-joo.

“You’re a vampire who tried to become human by sleeping in this cramped coffin for 100 years. But you failed because I opened the coffin one day early?”

What kind of alarm clock did he have 100 years ago that could keep time for 100 years? How many turns would it have taken to wind it up?
Did the coffin have Netflix? A reading lamp?

Don't vampires have a natural internal clock, kind of like hibernating bears? Also, I'm sure he spent the 100 years running through all possible scenarios for a fantasy kdrama rom-com plot. Let's hope he chose the right one!

Oh wow. This just looks better and better!!! I'm actually getting concerned about how excited I am for this... the last time I was this excited for a fantasy creature x human roommate rom-com was My Roommate is a Gumiho. The first two episodes lived up to the promise of the teasers, but by the end of that drama, I wished it had focused on the relationship between the FL's guy best friend and the lady ex-gumiho instead. Here's hoping for a better outcome!😅

If I don’t get to see this, you all have to try and write long comments to evoke the hoped for camp and fun for me.

Dear @dncingemma, I have hopes for this well. But uneasily, I have two shows that spring to mind:

1. Kokkdu: Season of Diety

2. Heavenly Idol

I would definitely rank these as my biggest disappointments, if not the worst shows I've seen this year.

@hacja: Here is to this being fun and campy. Even if I can’t get to watch it, I want you all to enjoy it. @elinor and you should put your wits to work in your comments.
ps - I gave up on Kokkdu and couldn’t access HI. It is about time we get a consistently funny one (even though there will be no doubt a tragedy or two waiting in the wings in this as well).

Even I got this one @elinor…and only because you’re so spot on with these references (I actually had to look it up ;))

Also, only when I respond to your comments does my markup fail me. Sorry about that. Seriously, I think I’m three for three with you…

Oh sure, vampires are seductive. But what about sirens, vixens, and sorceresses? When are they going to get the kdrama treatment they deserve?

Isn't a female gumiho technically a vixen? And there's been at least one mermaid drama and one with "witch" as an occupation and not an epithet, but from the little I've seen, I can't recommend any shows featuring those species. Clearly they're overdue for shows worthy of their talents. Or talons. Or tails.

I personally, am outraged that recent shows featuring Gumihos have turned them into attractive men rather than seductive women, as myth demands. There's a reason that older men like me drink a lot of alcohol to fatten up their liver!

2 things:
1. KBS better do the right thing and make HEARTBEAT available on a legal stream in the US.
2. I would love to see the TOMORROW (2022) gang (Kim Hee-sun, Rowoon, Lee Soo-hyuk et al) make HEARTBEAT cameos.

Surely Lee Soo-hyuk at least, man would fit right into the vampire vibe (I suppose he's been there, done that... we'll never forget his uh, unbuttoned robe, from Scholar Who Walks the Night 😂).
