  • tvN unveiled another short drama in their upcoming season for the O’PENing series, which is currently set to premiere in July. Titled Don’t Squeeze the Peaches (roughly translated), the melodrama stars Jung Yi-seo (All of Us Are Dead), Choi Won-young (Under the Queen’s Umbrella), and Shin Hyun-soo (Duty After School). • Checking in on JTBC’s King the Land, there’s been another slew of stills in addition to our main pair’s character teasers, which can be found here and here. Starring Junho (The Red Sleeve Cuff) and Yoon-ah (Big Mouth), the rom-com is now just one week away, premiering on June 17. [MBC]

  • Over on KBS, Ha Joon (Missing: The Other Side 2) confirmed casting for the next family weekender Hyo-shim’s Independent Life, joining UEE (Ghost Doctor) in the leading roles. Airing later this year, following The Real Has Come, PD Kim Hyung-il (The King of Tears, Lee Bang-won) is directing with scripts by Jo Jung-sun (Mother of Mine). [News1]
  • In the meantime, I’m counting down the days until KBS’s Heartbeat, which is thankfully much less than a 100-year wait. In the latest stills, we get another peek at our motley group of vampires and humans, with Taecyeon (Blind) and Won Ji-ahn (If You Wish Upon Me) leading the cast. The supernatural romance premieres on June 26 in the Monday-Tuesday slot. [News1]

Netflix France wasn't convinced by King The Land title, they changed it in L'empire du sourire, it means the Empire of Smile. I'm not sure that it's really better but at least it means something.

Oh, I like it.

Looks like the different languages kept the smile theme.

I’m shocked English-language Netflix kept the “King the Land” title considering it makes no sense lol. Not sure it’ll draw many new kdrama viewers… or maybe it’ll draw even more viewers curious about the nonsensical title? Lol!

I actually like that better. Not only does it mean something as you said, but it also rolls of the tongue nicely. And the subject of the sentence has an article! "King of Land" fails on all counts.

1. Kang Mal-guem and Lee Ki-woo. Miracle Brothers keeps getting irresistible.

I saw Ha Joon and UEE's casting yesterday and was very much elated. Learning now that it's a weekender, I'm having mixed feelings. The PD of King of Tears, Lee Bangwon can do no harm right? And, Mother of Mine has stellar recos so this has to be a safe landing overall.

Isn't UEE and a weekender usually a good match though? 🙂

Not UEE. It's me and weekenders. I've not seen a weekender that matches It's Beautiful Now's execution. It's not the case, it is the writer PD that worries me.

Writer PD is what ruined Three Siblings Bravely in my opinion cause there is no way you turn Lim Ju-hwan, Wang Bit-na into green actors unless the duo are incapable. I don't know how Kim Seung-su saved his character's portrayal but that's just him. So I can't just ignore how messily botched Three Siblings Bravely was.

So moving forward, I'm not using actors as a criteria to watch Weekenders, I'm using Writer-PD.

Oh, then I misunderstood, I read your comment as being satisfied with the PD and Writer, but doubting the actors in the weekender format.

Totally agree with the Three Siblings. It was one of my fastest drops. 😅
