Jung Woo and Bae Hyun-sung join hands as Miracle Brothers

Aww, I like this duo already! JTBC’s upcoming drama Miracle Brothers looks like a heartwarming slice-of-life with a dash of fantasy sprinkled in, and I’m already ready for mama hen Jung Woo (Mental Coach Jegal) to take the baby duckling Bae Hyun-sung (Gaus Electronics) under his wing.

Named after the renowned poet Yoon Dong-joo, our diligent protagonist Yook Dong-joo (Jung Woo) lives a humble life that’s far different from what he envisions. Unlike his dreams of becoming a bestselling author, Dong-joo spends his days running between part-time jobs and cramming a triangle kimbap into his mouth while on the go. It’s a far cry from his ambitious goal, and he makes up for the difference by pouring a hundred and ten percent of his fiery fighting spirit into everything he does. (That includes lots of aggrieved shouting.)

Everything changes one rainy night, however, when a body suddenly soars through the air and lands right on Dong-joo’s windshield. For a moment, Dong-joo fears the worst — is he going to become a criminal on top of everything else?! — until the accident victim Kang San (Bae Hyun-sung) wakes up in his hospital bed. Thankfully, he’s physically fine. A little too fine, in fact, because San now has super strength. (Dong-joo witnesses this firsthand when San sends a grown man flying out of his hospital ward.)

Bewildered by San’s strange powers, a flabbergasted Dong-joo can’t help but quiver nervously in San’s presence. Meanwhile, San is oddly calm and composed for an amnesia patient. Since he can’t recall anything about himself, San decides that he’ll just follow Dong-joo home. New brother: acquired!

The teaser doesn’t showcase the rest of San’s abilities, but according to his official character description, San is able to feel the pain and desperation of others as if his own body is experiencing it. That already sounds torturous enough — it sounds like San can’t help but read others’ hearts, whether he likes it or not — but there’s one more catch. San refuses to tolerate even the smallest injustice, which means he’s going to do everything within his power to help the people he encounters. And of course, that means Dong-joo’s coming along for the ride!

Helmed by PD Park Chan-hong and writer Kim Ji-woo, who both previously worked on Beautiful World together, Miracle Brothers is slated for a June 28 premiere.

A few thoughts:
1. I hope this JTBC production will be available on a legal stream in the US. Yes, I have become a broken record on this issue if lack of availability in the US;
2. It wasn’t until recently when I studied the promo pics that I realized that the young guy and co-ml (Bae Hyun-sung) was the sweet brother twin in HOSPITAL PLAYLIST (2020/21). What a great opportunity for him. It looks a great role; and
3. Jung Woo is a total blank slate for me. One little concern was when @solstices mentioned his character’s yelling. I saw it in the video. Red flag to me. I can think of two dramas that started off in the early episodes with the MLs yelling a lot which I think turned a lot of viewers off and both dramas suffered with lousy ratings (both are favorites of mine): I AM NOT A ROBOT (2017/18) and CHICAGO TYPEWRITER (2017).

Yes, those twins were cute characters in Hospital Playlist. I first saw him in the webdrama Love Playlist so was pleased to see him with bigger roles in Dear M. and Gaus electronics last year. Apparently he was also in What’s wrong with Secretary Kim and Extraordinary You but I would have to go back to look him they must have been very small roles.

He’s also the teenage student father / husband of Roy Yoon-seo in Our Blues (which I consider the best segment of that Omni drama). Very promising actor.

Bouncing him with the wonderful Jung Woo is a great project choice. It’s difficult to pigeon-hole Jung Woo - his ‘trash oppa’ in Reply 1984 created the biggest FML and SML debate in DB. His range is wide and project choice, quite exceptional - not many run-of-the-mill dramas on his resume.

I didn’t get past the first part of the first story in Our blues but I know that I can miss that one and continue through with the rest without losing the flow. I will try to go back at some point as I heard most of the others were really good in covering some deep topics.

For Our Blues, I only chose the stories I like and didn’t finish all. It really depends on my mood at the time. You can certainly pick and choose.

He played Lee Jae-wook / Baek Kyung's younger brother in Extraordinary You 😉 (And high five, I first saw him in Love Playlist too! So glad he's been getting more opportunities lately~)

Highly recommend Jung Woo in Mad for Each Other. I never knew I wanted a yelling oppa living next door until I saw him.

Glad to be of help. I’m going to wait for all the episodes to air before I start watching…I’m a binge-watcher myself.

I will keep this on the watchlist for now. I couldn’t watch the trailer after reading about a body hitting the windscreen as I am too traumatised by the recent batch of dramas with random body drops on to cars. Yes, Why her, One dollar lawyer we are looking at you…

I am really get a lopsided impression of Korea. When I finally visit one day, I will be expecting bodies dropping on cars left and right, trucks of death at every corner, and men in black caps walking by suspiciously on their way to assassinate someone.

I hope this is as fun and funny as I hope it to be! It looks like its on the right track by the teaser. Jung Woo could advertise himself as a "professional yeller"!
