Premiere Watch: Finland Papa

Time slot: Saturdays
Broadcaster: Cinema Heaven
Genre: Healing, romance
Episode count: 6

Reasons to watch: It’s always a good time for a healing drama — especially when it’s actually about, you know, healing! Tiny cable channel Cinema Heaven is responsible for this little drama, and they seem to have global fans in mind as international OTT streamers have been a part of their marketing from the get go. (No complaints here.)

Kim Bora and Kim Woo-seok are in the lead, but it’s almost as if the eponymous cafe is another leading character. When our heroine begins working at said cafe, she begins her journey of healing — and it looks touching, sweet, and maybe even a little quirky. The owner of the cafe is unknown by all the workers there — including Hwang Seok-jung and Jung Min-sung – they simply call him “Papa.” But this mysterious character links back to our heroine’s first love whom she’s been pining for. And maybe it’s the sprinkle of the Nordic here, but I’m getting A Piece of Your Mind-lite vibes. Yes, that sets the bar super high, but someone’s gotta do it.

TL;DR: Cute healing drama from a tiny cable channel

I wish it was a little longer than six episodes, but this sounds tailor-made for me. Cozy setting, romantic angst, found family--check, check, check. So glad it's on viki.

I actually like that its only 6 episodes. But is it going to be one episode a week?

Where are my Mon-Tue dramas??!!!

@laurensophie: Hopefully no serial killers or vile screaming chaebols. I can deal with good super-natural stuff but right now, don’t want anything scary.

With only six episodes, I think we're probably safe on both those fronts :) I hope!

I am excited about this one too, the short series is the way to go if it cuts out unnecessary padding. I wish it was a season drop rather than stretching it out with one episode per week, if it’s good a week will be a very long time.

Those (faithful few) of us who live watched 12 NIGHTS (2018) (Viki US) watched 12 episodes (airing Friday nights) spread over 12 weeks (Oct.12-Dec.28, 2018). Fwir it was usually available Sunday nights so for 3 months it was my Sunday night viewing.

If Viki subbers are quick this could be a Sunday night watch.
I feel kind of bad for quickly pulling the plug on BORA! so I think I will give this a watch.

Wow, Twelve nights was a one episode a week drop. I am so glad I didn't have to live watch that it would have felt like living through the 8 years or whatever the time span it covers. I really liked that drama.

Lol I know you are a 12 NIGHTS fan so I thought you might enjoy hearing about my live watch.
In a way one episode a week works for me sometimes in that it doesn’t take much to get caught up.

One ep a week is torture. I've endured a string of Japanese shows this way and it doesn't get easier.

@ys: So true. The wait for “Silent” was exquisitely painful.

Good thing its short, I'm getting a little triggered by the word healing. This does remind me to watch A Piece of Your Mind!

I was late to A PIECE OF YOUR MIND (2020) (Viki US) but notwithstanding the episode cut I found it to be a beautiful drama and it is probably my favorite Chae Soo-bin drama.

Oh dang only 6 episodes? Good thing if it'll mean tight storytelling but if it is good, I'll end up wishing it was at least 12 eps instead :(

I am loving that Viki is releasing two short episodes so we can cope better with the week long wait! Its also easier for the subbers to do a quick turn around with just under 30 mins to cover the first one on the day and then have more time for part two. It’s like the days when they did 32 episodes which were 30 mins each.
