Premiere Watch: Family

Time slot: Monday-Tuesday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Comedy, action
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara star together once again, and that’s always a good thing (I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this pairing). Billed as an action + comedy + spy + family drama, we can look forward to lots of hilarious marital shenanigans, and probably a handful of heart-filled moments as well. Jang Hyuk plays the father of the house who’s hiding his actual day job (black ops agent), and Jang Nara is his wife, who’s the real leader of their multi-generational household. The teasers for the drama have been great, but really, it’s the posters that did the most for me: Jang Nara pretty in pink at an ironing board, and Jang Hyuk in black ops gear crouched beyond it. LOL! The fun, of course, is that none of the roles here are what we’d expect, and it’s sure to be a lot of laughs that lean — as they should — on the wonderful chemistry between these two. Whether they’re throwing dagger or hearts, they can do it all with a glance.

TL;DR: Jang Hyuk x Jang Nara = a must-watch

This has only happened to me once before when it took a full 24 hours for the translation to come through. If that’s the case here hopefully in the next 3 hours we should have subs up. I am refreshing practically every hour I can’t believe it. The one show when I wanted to watch as soon as it dropped🥺

Seems not in all regions. too weird these leads actors should be famous and have audience to view.

For some strange reason Disney seem to not release this outside of Korea via their other Asian platforms. And I have not located it at any other streaming providers. too weird as these actors surely will sell at any Asian countries audiences.

Do you think they have found a way to prevent the release of a subbed version as the second episode is out and they are both still in raw state! People are erupting everywhere in frustration!
What if this becomes the new normal for Disney+ dramas only released in regions without the need for English subs😱

Flips table in rage.
Why would you license dramas if you can’t make the best use of them and get international subscribers?!!!!
Are they testing our Korean language skills? Lol.
Let’s hope we do get subs even if delayed by a day.
I remember back in the day we would have raw cdramas and kimbap noona would host a live group watch and live translate the show for us.
Gosh.

Wow, that’s proper back in the day memories and shows the dedication of K drama fans and supporters🏆. We take the ease of accessing the subbed dramas for granted and moan about the quality of the subs when we should be grateful. Thankfully, this level of delay is an extremely rare event these days but I do know that some dramas never get subbed. I just never thought it would be one as popular as this one.

So I am finally part way through watching the subtitled first episode and I think the person who subbed it was smoking something dodgy as I can’t imagine anyone in South Korea needing to drop the N word into a conversation twice in one sentence😱 or for a mum talking with her child who looked about 7 to be using the word B’tard as an expression. The I, you, him etc. was incorrect 90% of the time BUT despite having to work so hard to work out what is being said I am loving it so far.

Never have I wished I could understand Korean more…I’m finding the subs very difficult to follow. And I haven’t gotten to the N-word yet…but WHY?!? 😱😱😱

Like you, I’m loving it - it’s the perfect level of kooky for me, and I don’t know what it is about Jang Na Ra and Jang Hyuk but they are both such a pleasure to watch. I hope our access will improve…

I read about the bad subs. Someone said it’s machine translated. If grammar is totally off it’s most likely it.

This makes me so mad. We were supposed to enjoy this drama. Not go through this.
Really Disney? 😡😡😡🤬🤬

Now I understand why texts and other written information does not get translated sometimes. I don't get why a machine would use the N word it was really random for it to be in that sentence. An elderly father in law talking with a daughter in law who he really likes describing his son who is being a bit of a pain but who he also clearly loves.

Lol. I have watched some Chinese dramas with machine translated subs. It would translate character names to words like ‘general’ (in a modern drama). It can be hilarious.
