Lee Dong-wook time-slips in Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938

Lee Dong-wook (Bad and Crazy) graces our screens again as our favorite broody gumiho Lee Yeon in the teaser for the second season of Tale of the Nine Tailed.

When we last left Yeon — Season 1 spoilers ahead, so beware! — he had finally gotten his happily ever after reunited with Jo Boa (Military Prosecutor Doberman) and living in idyllic civilian bliss. Which is why this Ji-ah-less second season, titled Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938, feels more like a spin-off than a continuation of the original story.

According to the plot description, after the events of the first season, Yeon one day finds himself dragged back to 1938 Japan-occupied Korea. Something’s gone awry in the celestial realm, and it’s up to Yeon to figure out what it is and fix it.

During his adventures he’ll run into old friends like the guardian-spirt-turned-restauranteur Ryu Hong-joo — played by Kim So-yeon (Penthouse 3) — who may or may not have nursed a fat crush on him in the past. He’ll also run into some old enemies like Chun Moo-young — played by Ryu Kyung-soo (Glitch) — another guardian spirit who was once Yeon’s friend until circumstances turned them into nemeses.

And of course, lovers of Kim Bum (Ghost Doctor) will rejoice to know Yeon’s brother Rang will also feature in 1938 in all his surly petulant glory.

The teaser gives us a short glimpse into Yeon’s journey to the past. We see modern Seoul flip into an older time, and a confused Yeon telling us in voiceover, “My world is starting to spin out of control.”

We then see the more ominous results of this time-slip: a room full of dead bodies, Yeon facing what looks like his evil alter-ego, and a camp-tastic mid-air smackdown, all while Yeon muses, “Looks like I’ve gone back to 1938.”

With writer Han Woo-ri and director Kang Shin-hyo both returning for the second season, Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 will premiere on May 6 on tvN.

They really went there and made it a prequel-sequel-spinoff-something just to get rid of original FL and their infamously flatlined romance with ML lmao. I feel bad for JBA, she doesn't deserve shouldering ALL the blame alone in this case, but it's darkly hilarious. Do we really need another evil foil to Lee Yeon tho? Just make HIM the baddie finally, villainous protagonists are a thing for reason! Dude never made much sense as a sympathetic hero anyway...
I'm just here for Lee Rang. And Lee Rang in 1930's fashion specifically. And maybe another OST from Nell♥

My favorite Gumiho and fox overall is back! Can’t wait to watch how our main hero Lee Yeon will continue to kick everyone’s asses and tease his frenemies. From the teaser itself I can see that Lee Dong Wook’s action will be fun to watch. Btw so glad that they have chosen this era. Lee Dong Wook in 30s fashion will look so hot. Besides, I believe their chemistry with Kim So Yeon will be top notch and fun to watch. All others are just pleasant edition, but I believe there will be interesting stories as well.
Moreover Jo Bo Ah has filmed as well, so we’ll see lovely Ji Ah and hopefully will have few scenes of Gumiho couple.

I'm really looking forward to Gumiho's return. In the first season, Lee Yong played by Lee Dong Wook won me over. Dong Wook acted like he was living every moment. I believed his game and lived all the feelings with him. His emotions, his eyes, smile, voice - I love all this to the point of madness. I don't understand the negativity towards his character. Lee Yong was a good brother, friend, beloved to Ji Ah. I am very happy that the drama Gumiho made me fall in love with the wonderful actor Lee Dong Wook. No matter what anyone says, but his character is the best! Now in season 2, the continuation of the Gumiho story, there will be a lot of action and special effects, so many surprises await us. I look forward to it!

Just retire Lee Yeon and make a whole season about Lee Rang. Bring him back somehow - and never mind if you have to bend logic a bit. I'll swallow anything. I promise!

Have you missed out TOTNT spin off about Rang? They did it right after S1 ended and even promoted it during last eps of drama. They (CJ group: tvN, studio dragon) wanted to gain money from the Rang lovers who they thought are a lot, and put it as paid VOD. Unfortunately the sales where miserable, even though they did lots of promotions with iPhones as prizes, and after one week they have opened it for free. But even then the views where so small that it considered a flop. So I guess producers understood that one thing are some fans, and another thing is general public…who still needs and craves for Lee Yeon and ensemble of different actors and characters, including his baby brother.

im excited to see this two brothers reunion since..cough...cough.. cough Rang good deed in last ep. they will probably meet again in circumstance where their relationship was still icy as ever. how will Yeon navigate a situation where he in reality actually made up with his whiny baby brother but now has to meet the old version of Rang that hates him again LOL.
