Premiere Watch: Divorce Attorney Shin

Time slot: Saturday-Sunday
Broadcaster: JTBC
Genre: Legal, drama
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: As much as I love my youth dramas, it is always gratifying to have a drama that focuses on the more mature characters in their 40s that are usually relegated to bosses or parents or even baddies. Here, our heroes — all three of them — are a tight-knit crew of longtime pals. They’re led by our main character (Jo Seung-woo), a pianist turned divorce lawyer. Ignoring for a moment the prevalence of divorce attorneys in dramaland of late (is this a new sub-genre trend, or what?), it will be refreshing to get a story of friendship and life through the eyes of some fun ajusshis. Our screenwriter last brought us Thirty-Nine, so take that for what you will. For me, it means I’m hoping (as in *HOPING*) for a script that brings these ajusshis and their relationship to life, but has a plot that steers away from the overly sentimental. Hey, an ajumma can hope, right?

TL;DR: Cute ajusshi bromance, pianist-turned-lawyer, sacred divorce

Finally a chance to see if this is Prison Playbook style friendships or the male version of Thirty nine; a depressing showcase of the boring nature of life for the over 40’s.

I am a fan of Cho Seung-woo but I will be here for Jung Moon-sung.
I have seen him play a literally ‘royal’ SOB as Prince Lee Tan in HAECHI (2019) for which he was awarded ‘Best Male Character’ at the 2019 SBS Drama Awards. I much preferred him as Dr. Do Jae-hak (Jung Kyung-ho’s ‘guy friday’) in HOSPITAL PLAYLIST. He was great in that role. Those two were a wonderful match.

*spoilers ahead*

The roles that Cho Seung woo played in the previous kdramas do not fart in bed/having nervous breakdown after meeting a celebrity client/fighting for kimchi with bestie/singing trot songs.

So after ep. 1's sneak a peak, i can confirm that Attorney Shin is a character I never see him playing before and I'm so excited whats more he can do to make this character shines just like his roles in the previous kdrama.

I'm also shipping his friendship with his 2 besties - cant believe Sung kyun and Moon sung, two actors i used to see in villainous roles are playing innocent roles and as his besties.
