IU and Park Bo-gum cast in 1950s romance

The writer of When the Camellia Blooms and Fight My Way? The director of Signal and Misaeng? Not to mention IU (Hotel Del Luna) and Park Bo-gum (Record of Youth)? Now that’s certainly an exciting lineup!

Upcoming romance drama You Have Done Well (working title) may not have much information to its name yet, but my interest has already been piqued. Set in the 1950s, the slice-of-life drama centers around our two lovebirds, following their adventures through the seasons of Jeju Island.

IU stars as Ae-soon, a vivacious girl who wears her heart on her sleeve, never letting her less-than-ideal circumstances dampen her spirit. Even though she can’t attend school, she dreams of becoming a poet. Ae-soon may have a bit of a rebellious streak to her, but she’s more timid than one might think — her voice can’t help but quiver every time she tries to rebel, aww.

Opposite her, we have Park Bo-gum as Gwan-shik, who’s diligent and conscientious. Except his composure all but melts away in the face of Ae-soon — he’s absolutely head over heels, and he only has eyes for her. Earnest and sincere, Gwan-shik is Ae-soon’s most faithful supporter, staying by her side through thick and thin.

Although the drama doesn’t have a confirmed broadcaster yet, I’m already eagerly anticipating more news about it, especially with regards to the supporting cast. From the looks of it, the drama is shaping up to be a heartwarming, feel-good tale that’s grounded in the peaceful mundanity of everyday life — and given the writer’s previous works, I’m inclined to trust that we’re in good hands.

This drama also marks a reunion between IU and PD Kim Won-seok (Arthdal Chronicles), who previously worked together on My Ajusshi. Written by Im Sang-chun (When the Camellia Blooms), You Have Done Well will commence production in the second quarter of this year.

Its funny that I often get Park Bo-gum and Lee Jong-suk confused and here's IU dating one and acting with the other.

Yeah I was going to add I don't really think either end would've been that great ... 😅 (Euphemisms intentional)

Right, I had the impression that the whole 50s was pretty bleak for Korea. Did Jeju escape The War? And I wonder what school age IU is playing?
Anyway, I plan to like it! 🤞🏼

I'm not sure about the Korean War specifically, but the Jeju Uprising in 48-49 probably wouldn't have left it that idyllic either...

Yes, I just read about it, it seems the Jeju Uprising (Massacre) was a big part of what started the war. It’s still controversial, can’t imagine that strong feelings about it wouldn’t have colored feelings on Jeju for a long time. Well, that would just make the drama even more intriguing for me!

DAaaang I love all the names and titles being thrown around... but the synopsis so far hasn't done anything for me. We'll see as promos are released!

OH GOD..This, along with Queen of Tears, is the absolute two dramas to ANTICIPATE this year!

And never in my wildest dreams I will imagine the pairing of IU and PBG.

Okay...calm down...calm down.

Those helming writing and direction blow my mind. And a setting in the 50's...the aesthetics are to be anticipated.

Confession...I initially read the article heading as IU and Lee Jong-suk even though I was clearly seeing IU and Park Bo-gum.

It's glad to have IU back. It's been...4-5 years...?

Oh my! Years ago, I was actually disappointed that IU couldn’t return for S2 of Hyori’s B&B bcs then I wouldn’t see an interaction between her and Bogum!

But alas, dramaland works in mysterious ways, we got a show! Set in a different timeline as well!

IU with Kim Won Suk PD again. Awsome!
Since I'm not interested watching camelia, I hope the writing will be good in this one. at least want a decent writing.

So what is there not to like about this one? It is definitely going on my upcoming shows to watch.

As a big IU fan (and my wife is an even bigger fan) I do actually worry about her health: If she keeps working this hard, she might end up totally collapsing.

Thank you 🥰 I was desperately trying to find that post because I couldn’t remember if it was something I made up first or I already knew about the promo for this drama. I was sure my wish came first but my memory at my age…🤣. I will definitely be watching it even if it turns out to have genre elements outside of my comfort zone. I am hopeful that Bogummy will do a good job and people will see that he is not just a pretty face as up against IU he will have to work to hold his own.

I heard news about IU reuniting with My Mister director but nothing about Bo-gum. So yes props to you, you gave us all a dream pairing that none of us thought was possible haha

I'm looking forward for this show. Not a big fan of both leads (unpopular thought), but because it will be helmed by the director that helmed Signal, My Mister, and Misaeng; and penned by the writer who wrote When the Camellia Blooms. These shows are in my top 10 list.

IU's last role was a killer baby-abandoning prostitute and that wasn't even her darkest role to date. Got back and watch the first episode (but ONLY the first episode) of the 2013 series 'Bel Ami' (Pretty Man) to see a charming wacky IU character. I hope she's allowed to do more than just glower and suffer in this series.

ooh i'm so glad someone else remembers IU in that Bel Ami role! I hated the show (or rather, everything about the male lead) but I really loved how IU embraced the eccentricities of her character.

This just vaulted to the top of my TBW list. I think IU and Park Bo-gum give off a similar vibe, so I’m anticipating the chemistry to be strong and sweet between these two. The PD and the writer are solid, so it feels like it can’t miss *knocks on wood*
