sounds like SHR's amygdala will actually be a significant plot point.

the little computer graphic at the end of ep. 4 zoomed into it when he went to visit the mysterious older psychopath prisoner. it's the place in the brain where trauma resides, apparently

Okay, i'm up through ep. 3 and still liking it. The petty bickering continues, which is the best part for me. I also like the pseudo-scientific brain nonsense that Shin Haru spouts---Yonghwa does a great job selling it, even if it's not factually sound IRL. I also like that he's established SHR's character and he's not really softening it or making it nicer or more palatable. At the same time SRH is proving his worth with his intellect, so he's not a complete asshole. It's ballsy to make a character fairly unsympathetic and stick with it, and it's hard to make the audience still support him. IMHO Yonghwa's walking that tightrope pretty well so far. Weirdly enough, as a woman I like that he's resisting the impulse to "just smile, honey." He is who he is and he doesn't have to make nice if he doesn't want to. Cha Taehyun is also great as the softie cop. He's not too much of a pushover and he's a good for for SHR. And his daughter is great! The little interaction in the convenience store with her admirer was priceless.

1st ep was very rough but the 2nd ep does get a lot better and subsequent eps are decent. I didn't think much of Yonghwa's acting ability before but he has surprised me in The Package and later in Sell Your Haunted House so I decided to give this a chance despite my apprehension of Cha Tae Hyun choosing bad dramas after his heyday. Yonghwa has improved considerably and while he may not be on the level of the A-list actors people rave over, he has become a solid, dependable male lead you can enjoy on-screen. It also helps that he seems to be aging like fine wine and Brain Works especially, seems to love showcasing those good looks. That, and the haughty, arrogant neuroscientist, buddy cop bromance actually works rather well here so I think I'll actually stick around a bit longer and see where this drama decides to take us.

I’m enjoying how ridiculous it is and that the show doesn’t take itself seriously. I hope it can stay that way even with all the stuff about Shin Haru’s trauma.

the fight in the church was esp. over the top, but in a good way. they're definitely owning the comedy. wonder if it will turn darker at any point or if it will keep being goofy fun

Popping back in to say that I'm pleased with the way this show doesn't take itself too seriously. I loved the slo-mo waltzing dustup between the two leads and I absolutely adore the way that Jung Yonghwa/Shin Haru spouts pseudoscientific babble with a completely straight face. And my fav is the cheesy way they use lie detector tests and MRIs. Totally out of a 1950s b-movie police procedural. The spiraling hypnosis screen was also excellent. It's not completely camp but it veers pretty close at times, without completely going over the top. I like it but I can see how it might be off-putting for someone looking for a more naturalistic show.

I love this show. it's a little gem, especially as I am finally getting around to watch Into the Darkness at the same time. I can soothe my troubled soul with the Brain Works shenanigans after an episode of intense serial killer-ness. I wish I had started to watch it a little later so I could binge watch rather than being left waiting for the next episode.

I am not too sure where we are going with sexy brain and I found her attempts at getting her ex-husband's attention were getting on my nerves. Yet, at the end of the last episode (10), I'm hopeful we'll get to see more of her in a different light. Ultimately, she seems to me like a very lonely person, even more after her divorce. Somehow, I'd like to see more depth to her deliciously pink character. Show me the darkness underneath the pink!

I don't get why they made it seem as if the "sexy brain" was going to be a major character. Is it because the actress is well known? Regardless, they didn't really utilize her too much and then 🚨spoiler alert🚨 it just ends up being a reaction due to diet pills. I also always thought the expression of her sexiness was a bit weird too haha
She would just get on random poles and pose. I guess it all plays into the ridiculousness of the show.

I smile at the enemies to friends dynamic between Detective Geum & Shin Haru. It's was definitely different for me to see someone who was soooo in disbelief about the possibility that someone could be such a genuinely nice and altruistic person, that he only slightly softened once he had scientific proof (his brain scan results).

In the end, the show is just fun show. It's not reinventing the wheel or a critical masterpiece but it's just fun with some educational aspects regarding mental/brain issues. I give kudos to the writer for even being able to make neuroscience interesting and fun.
