Wow! Once again was such a good weekender too so they must have felt it was an amazing achievement. Whilst the current weekender has struggled for a while so it’s not that hard to accept that a good week day drama could easily leave it in the dust.

Reborn Rich! Has it reached it’s peak or will it’s last few episodes peak again?

We might reasonably expect that it will surpass the top spot’s highest rating.

It has a good chance to surpass WotM even without Lee Sung-min in the final episodes.

"World of the Marriage"

Old-school (chaebol/family) revenge with veteran actors who can carry anything is a big draw with the general K-viewers.
It's hard to watch green actors as the center of dramas. They need to practice in supporting roles. We need more of Kim Hee-ae, Lee Sung-min, Choi Min-soo, Ahn Nae-sang, Kim Hye-soo, Han Suk-kyu, etc. They can make a lousy drama watchable.

Having now watched about half the episodes of Reborn Rich, I am a little puzzled as to its growing appeal. Its original (and probably a great part of its continued) success seems clearly due to bravura performance by Lee Sung-min. But the other characters, including a rather bland (in this show) Song Joong Ki are either stereotypes or not that interesting.
At the end of the episodes we watched last night, I said to my wife that there was actually something a little tedious about the "action" which basically involves accounting paperwork--mergers, acquisitions, investments, slushfunds, etc. etc. Applied to my profession, its as if there was a drama about a dominating professor and a set of teaching assistants that focused on grading papers and taking attendance. Sure, it would be very popular for the first few episodes--15% audience share or more--but then the appeal would begin to level off, whereas it seems like more and more Korean viewers are being pulled in by the paper-crunching. I guess they can't stay away when they hear there are some really sexy spreadsheets featured on the show.

The show is basically just men in suits having serious conversations about shares while the sweeping OST tries to me it's epic.
"Who... will be... the... CEO... of the... holding... company?" DUN DUN DUN DUN
Everybody smirks.

This was the best laugh I had all day. It was the holding company part that got me.
The scene that had the prosecutor puzzling over the white board to see what the motive was for the lurid crime of giving a FALSE TIP was also pretty stirring. And the connection was made in BLUE dry erase marker!

Dame Judi I am not watching RR but I get where you are coming from. I plugged through 16 episodes of tax avoidance in TRACER (1&2). Maybe plug is not accurate but I think 12 episodes of that stuff would have sufficed rather than 16.

Having now watched about half the episodes of Reborn Rich, I am a little puzzled as to its growing appeal.
Reasons:
1) Koreans love watching rich chaebols fighting each other
2) Lee Sungmin's tour-de-force acting
3) FOMO

Sure, I get the reason for the original high rating of the show. But the FOMO is what I find a little strange. You'd think it would apply to Alchemy of Souls to greater degree--that has romantic soul shifters rather than shifty paper shufflers.

Well, as you say we disagree about both the originality and realism of the show--with its born again time travel element and depiction of inter-family squabbles among the rich--as well as the idea that the characters aren't caricatures. And isn't it a trope that the hero whose main goal is revenge is always morally tarnished at the end? Even unsophisticated violent revenge movies have that as a theme. As far as SJK's performance here, it is just mainly half-smiles, not as good as as his previous work.
Nonetheless, what I was commenting on was the phenomenon of immense popularity for a show that really, in the end, comes down to financial matters. Except for a few tears about his Mom, the character played by SJK doesnt seem particularly conflicted, or even that concerned over his former identity. Its all about how he can buy a few more shares. That's fine, it just usually isn't so gripping as to garner higher and higher viewership.

Honestly I'm quite surprised by the implication that so many Koreans feel that Samsung's corporate history IS Korea's history. That this is it. The country is Samsung and any tour through the country's modern history is entirely the story of this one corporation.

@leetennant
Gaus Electronics neatly parodied this worshipful view of conglomerate origins. I'm sure Samsung's corporate masters and their apologists would love to sell the idea that corporation = country and both deserve uncritical loyalty, just as Ford, General Electric, and IBM did in the US at various times. I'm equally sure there are plenty of Koreans who aren't buying it.

Samsung is the most widely held stock by South Koreans.
The Korea Herald reported that the number of South Koreans who are 19 and below and hold shares in Samsung Electronics reached 358,257 in December 2021, a record high, according to the Korea Securities Depository.
That number accounts for 7.07 percent of all shareholders and 0.25 percent of the total shares the tech giant has issued. The shares the teenagers held at the time amounted to 1.1 trillion won ($891 million).

I admit that I had not thought that Soonyang was a one to one analogue for Samsung, and that part of the appeal of the show would be picking out who was supposed to be who, although I figured that Lee Sung-min was playing a version of Lee Byung-chul. But are the others in the family actually representative of Samsung heirs/heiresses? I guess I'm arguing they are caricatures of themselves, then!
Regardless, I return to my original point that everyone loves epic stories of the rich and powerful but usually more for the dynamics of relationships and ego, whereas this show really does seem to be more about whether our hero can remember which dot com went bust at what time and at what share price. It is a pretty impressive ability he has to recall these details, though, so maybe the show is pulling in an audience of day traders!

I think some of the appeal might lie not in just watching the financial matters but in comparing those issues with the real-life events.
There's an article from The Korea Herald that points out some similarities between the financial choices made by Soonyang and Samsung. Some parts of the story pan out just as they did in history while some are wish-fulfilment (like the success of Soonyang Motors).

I am avidly watching this not because of the hero's ability to "predict the future". It was after all the plot premise already so what is the surprise about that? I am definitely entertained by the comeuppance theme and I applaud the performance of the veteran actors here. Interestingly, a month before this show started, I stumbled upon a video essay on YT headlined as South Korea: Republic of Samsung. That video was not a favorable view of Samsung but it did help me connect with the so-called parallels in RR.

I am surprised that ALCHEMY OF SOULS did not do better.
The ratings for THREE BOLD SIBLINGS are starting to rise, though still not impressive, but the weekender is starting to fire on all cylinders, so it makes sense. It helps that we have our characters that are now more fleshed out, with much background now revealed. It is good to have characters, like So-rim's Ex, who we can truly hate. Meanwhile we can cheer her on in her quest to liberate the man she loves from the chains of always being the Model Student. We now have a proper makjang story around the ML and FL and our other side couple is now confronted with a Situation. Above all. we are now seeing a much fuller interaction among all of our characters and the families, which is what Weekenders are all about.

I am so looking forward to Sorim’s ex falling hard when his manipulations are discovered. The poor sweet potato man losing his patch. I have not watched all of this weekend’s episodes yet but so glad that I was proved right that the nephew was siphoning off some of the money. I am still convinced it is all a fraud and the child is not even related to the family. The whole shop front window display of the whole family at the family introductions meal did not make sense when they are raising security concerns about the threats to family members.

I believe that the DNA test which was burned by the ML' cousin showed exactly what you said- the child is not related. But by now he is part of the family as his mom made very clear with the birth mother.

Oh yes he is a much loved and wanted member of the family but how awful for him when he finds out the scheming that has been going on around his existence. He may well end up initially wanting to separate from both sets of ‘parents’ but I hope his bond with his brother can be maintained during this time to keep him stable. I wonder who his real dad was and if that will be relevant to the deception plan?

Good point about how the 'son" is likely to react. He also has his 'adoptive' mom to rely upon as well.

Also, I too was appalled at the treatment meted out by Sorim's Ex to the sweet potato guy: It amply demonstrated that the Ex is totally without redeeming value and I certainly hope that Sorim will be able to rescue her stepdaughter from his evil clutches.

Sorim will need to reign in the CEO dad because he already suspects potential suitors as being more interested in the position than his daughter. When CEO dad knows the ex hurt both the women he loves the most in the world, he will cease to be Mr nice guy and go full on medieval!

I doubt that Sorim would restrain her guy- remember that she is the ultimate UnCandy- restraint is the one thing she does not do. I see her joining in with him: He can turn one wheel of the rack while she turns the other (after all, they are soulmates you know). This could be really fun. Maybe his friend- our ML's aunt- could step in to keep this pair from actually murdering the Ex.

JTBC timed Ep. 13 of Reborn Rich perfectly with the 2022 World Cup. But from the highest highs of South Korea reaching the semi-finals to the lowest lows of losing the best character of the drama.

Loving this drama. It's business genre with a revenge genre mix and a historical-fantasy. i always like a good business genre drama which teaches me how a particular industry works and Reborn Rich is so good at teaching all this in an exciting way. Plus the historical factor. This is waaaay better than the other fantasy/reincarnation drama i had to suffer through earlier this year. I love Lee Joong ki a lot but at the end of Born Again (or whatever it was called) i felt so robbed at how thin and mediocre the plot was.

I agree. I find it difficult to get excited about rich people making even more money. The Characters aren’t well fleshed - all tropes - except the grandfather. The actor playing the grandfather stole the show. He made RR worth watching. Mainly I’ve watched it all because it’s cold and I’m staying in to save pre Christmas. Little else to do but watch a show. Alchemy of souls is much better.
